1  General / Tech Corner / Re: oil leak question on: July 07, 2007, 03:50:40 PM
remove the clutch cover. if you just unhook the cable and pull it out the little spring will fall into your motor. but just remove it and then put it al back together with new gaskets and seals

6  General / Tech Corner / Re: Honda 400ex! HELP on: March 08, 2007, 10:13:29 AM
I'm sure ATP will chime in here shortly, but you say "it won't start" that's very general,,,,is it turning over?  is it trying to fire up at all then falling on it's face?  are you sure it's getting fuel? are you sure it's getting spark?

It also might be worth the drive to ATP in Apopka if it can't get figured out,,,,they do wonders with the Hondas

Id@
yes it fires. everything is there. it just fires on like every 10 strokes. makes like a ka pump noise lol. then just turns over more and does it again. i checked it with a timing gun and the light comes on every 10 secs or so.. i dont kno what could all be wrong. yes its getting gas, i tried it with my friends carb and does the same thing. today im going to try diff electrical parts off his to see whats wrong. any clues?

its a 2 stroke right? if so maybe top end needs rebuilt if you can turn it over that easy with your hand.
my friends bike started making a noise and it was the piston moving from the piston moving from side to side
8  General / Tech Corner / Honda 400ex! HELP on: March 07, 2007, 08:30:51 PM
Ok, i got a honda 400ex. My mom bought me a 440 big bore race kit. We got it bored and all that work done. I put it all back together and now it dont want to start. I took it to a place called DC Motorcycle shop. they set timing, done my valves, compression check, valve leak test...they say everything is good on it but its not fireing right. They tried to order a diagnosis thing from honda but they wont sell it. They told me they cant help me anymore. I was wondering if someone on here has had same problem that maybe could help me. I wanted to just buy a new motor but then thats throwing 400$ down the drain. OR maybe i could trade someone for one of there old motors and some cash ill throw in. Ill trade for a stock or what ever you got. or maybe someone can help me. thx

My friend just got a motor and we tour it apart. the place where the valves sit is full of burnt stuff and also around the spark plu like it was burning oil. Is there a certain way to clean this without messing anything up?

11  General / Tech Corner / Re: Some Questions... on: January 29, 2007, 03:30:35 PM
the ratio is 11:1. i got this one because i herd people saying that you can still run 93 in it just fine. and about the springs and valves, ill leave them stock for right now. im going to get aftermarket ones for them later.
12  General / Tech Corner / Some Questions... on: January 28, 2007, 08:59:42 PM
I got the 440 kit for a honda 400ex. It came with a rev box, stage 3 cam, new cam chain, piston, sleeve and everything i need. I was wonder if i would have to get the dyno jet kit for my carb and get a new muffler and headers. Also on the timing. Also can anyone explane how to set timing on it?

I bought a 2000 honda 400ex yesterday. I was draning the oil lastnight and i put it all back together. i Went riding on the back of my friends atv. woke up this morning and forgot to put oil back in it. i was riding it. and it lost aloooot of power. It was really hot then i herd all my rods and things started  knocking. I went back to the truck after i realized what had happened and put oil in it. Then i ran it for a while idiling. and seemed to be doing all good again but im getting this loud ticking noise.  I dont kno what to do.  Should i buy the 417 kit and just get the whole top end rebuilt? run it till it dont run nomore? i really dont kno.
