General / Where to Ride? / Re: Back for more newbie help - How to buy used ATV?

We have found ATVs we want to buy a 50cc, 90cc and 150cc. All three said they do not have a title. One person said you don't have to have a title until 250cc. Is this true? I just need to know how to get the green sticker to ride in the ONFA.
Also is there anyone doing a kids safety course anytime from Nov 22 until Thanksgiving?
My dad and family want to go for a ride the day after and we are hoping to have the boys ready to go.
Thanks in advance for all the help!
Tammy
I have a 90 it does have a title and it will be up for sale very soon,If they are prior to 2002 +/- a bill of sale or certificate of origin will get you a title and the sticker

General / Where to Ride? / Re: Newbie question - Is there a size of ATV restriction for kids?

Over President's Day Weekend we had 7 ONFA members certified to give the RiderCourse provided by the ATV Safety Institute. This course is approved by the State of Florida and will meet all requirements of the law going into effect on July 1, 2008. The course will be available free to anyone interested in being a Trail Ranger. All children we be charged $75.00 by the ATV Safety Institute. We have been trying to get them to waive the fee, but they will not. There argument is that they provide all the material and and the liability insurance and as they are a non profit, they can not waive fees. We will be providing all children who pass the course a picture I.D. that will be accepted on all public lands in the State. Class size will be limited to 4 per class if under 12 and 6 per class 12 to 15. The classes will be held at the OHV Center on Forest Road 88 in the Ocala National Forest. Classes will be separate for under 12 and 12 to 15. Parent MUST attend if under 12. ATV size is under 70cc if under 12 and up to 90cc if under 16. All students must have helmets, goggles, long pants, long sleeve shirt and over the calf boots. Classes will continue on the First and Third Saturday's of every month. Those who are interested, please post here and I will pm you with how to sign up.
Schedule for Safety Training Courses: 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month, starting in May. Classes at 9:00am and 1:00pm. Enroll in the class by calling the ATV Safety Institute at 800-887-2887 or by going to their website: wwwatvsafety.org and look for rider training. If you have purchased a new ATV, the course is free. If you have an older ATV, the course is $75.00 for under 16 and $125.00 for adults.
It should read over the ankle boots or at least that is what the ATV Safety Web site says I was told that after my son took the class he on a 50cc because he is 10 he could then ride his 90cc after that so have I been misinformed or have the rules changed since then.

If safety is truly the goal of the new statute and of the ATV Institute, then each county should be providing convenient public classroom space for the course(public park, school, etc.) and ATV Institute instructors should be willing to travel to each county. We live in the largest metro area in the state and must travel 40 minutes to the only location. [/quote
They are far from that I think there is only 4 in the state Apopka,Brooksville,Sarasota and Salt Springs and Salt Springs is the only one that will take ages 6-11. I had a conversation today with the division of Forestry ohv dept. in Tallahasee today about the stupidity of the ATV Safety Institute and the law that is coming in to effect she told me that she will get back to me.

(3) Effective July 1, 2008, while operating an off-highway vehicle, a person who has not attained 16 years of age must have in his or her possession a certificate evidencing the satisfactory completion of an approved off-highway vehicle safety course in this state or another jurisdiction. So, who's offering the "approved" courses, now? [/quote] look Here http://www.floridaohv.org/ohv_safety.html#courses I tried to get my son who is 8 years old the "certificate" that he will need July 1st in order to ride on public lands,I was scheduled for this weekend. The class was canceled due to they need at least two people to show up in order to hold the class we where only ones scheduled so it was canceled. The instructor that I talked to on phone was tried to move the class to a different location to get a couple more to join ,but was shot down by the ATV Safety Institute due to insurance reasons. So what that boils down to the only place in the state that gives this training course to children under 12 is the OHV Center in Salt Springs. This is the great part this so called ATV Institute says that my son of 8 years old has to take a class on a 50 cc ATV.I borrowed a Suzuki 50 for the class (my son is 4'9" tall and weighs 100 lbs] the weight limit posted on this ATV is 84 lbs but they told me thats O K because he"s under 12 and thats what he has to ride for the CLASS ONLY after that he can ride his 90cc because know he has been trained on a 50cc .So if you go to a class ride an ATV that over weight for and get your knees tangled up in the handle bars and bottom out the shocks thats O K " And also after you take the class if you call them you will be paid .40 a mile round trip for gas,so for me the class cost $75.00 after driving to Salt Springs and back they will pay me $66.40 also pay the instructor to teach the class it sounds to me like these folks are not even smart enough to realize they are losing money and putting children in danger. So my suggestion is everyone 60 miles or more from Salt Springs with children sign up for the take it and make these guy go belly up.

To answer your question JackL nobody took and vin#'s or as far as I know made a report, the rangers and the paramedics didn't even ask our names. the sheriffs dept. took my name when I called but that was all. Since he said the medical insurance company made mention of the bike being insured and who was the owner, that person could be responsible for the bills. That makes me beleive that this low life may hop or try to hop on the free ride train. When he told me about the company calling him I told him don't even go there that will be a ride you will not like.

Yes, I understand what Jack L said but until he or the insurance company look for cash the medical bills are just a nominal fee. What concerns me is the millions of dollars that are spent by by the stupid stuff that the Law Firm of Wegona Stickit In could come up with.

On July 29th went riding at croom with 2 others both co-workers,one of them we ride together all the time ,he other a supposed to be experienced was ride one of my bikes. The second one somehow managed to flip/barrel roll my wifes bike. This was a 325 Polaris Trail Boss [a real rocket]long and short of it he broke a rib had to call the rangers /ambulance 3 hours with some help from some others get him out and get the bikes back to the trucks them off to the hospital. Today he came to me at work told me that his health insurance [same as mine]company called him last night know how he got hurt he said he told them he fell off an atv.He stated they wanted to know if it was insured if it was or not the wanted the owners info. Bottom line is this person can't afford his own stuff being kind I let him use mine and it looks like I may wind up being the _sshole for helping someone or so he thinks JUST BE CAREFULL I THOUGHT MUCH MORE OF THIS PERSON UNTILL TODAY. Also to the family that stopped to help us that day your help was very much apprecated.
