Thanks for info guys. I agree I like to know if where I'm riding is legal or not. I don't need or want trouble. I'll stick with Croom and Ocala for now. They are a lot closer also. Bandit 350 if things improve up that way please let us know.
Will do, I need to gather up information on how well ONF does and show it to the commissioners and chamber of commerce to try and get them to support some changes around here. Anyone willing to help that knows how to go about getting the information?

I can't speak for the leon county side, but if you're coming from spring hill I wouldn't bother coming to the liberty side. I live about 10 miles from the forest and it's not even worth it, the last time I was there years ago the rules were very unclear and basically up to whoever leo you ran into, the attitude was they don't want anything motorized but they had to allow it.
I need to go try it out again, maybe things have changed. I just hate going places and not knowing if I'm doing anything wrong or not where I should be.

General / Open Discussion / Stolen guns, need advice.

I have had a couple guns stolen, and need to know what to do before I go ballistic..
Back in Jan my father tried to help an old employee that was having problems, so he was around a lot even while we were away, well I recently started looking for my old shotgun to take it to my house and found out my father left it and his rifle in the hunting truck (I'm pissed about that too) and now they are no where to be found.
I did some talking and found out who the guy sold the rifle to, but the sheriff said that if I know who has it they cannot do anything, that it's up to me to get it??
We ran the guy off about 6 months ago, and I cannot prove he stole anything, so am I screwed or what?

General / ATV Activist / Legislation in Congress supports OHV access to public lands
|
on: April 07, 2011, 03:58:03 PM
|
Representative and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) along with Representative Rob Bishop (R-UT), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands and Representative Steve Pearce (R-NM), Chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus plan to introduce the Wilderness and Roadless Area Release Act of 2011 shortly. This bill would remove restrictions to motorized access on more than 40 million acres of public land nationwide. The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and All-Terrain Vehicle Association (ATVA) support this bill and applaud McCarthy, Bishop and Pearce for helping every American achieve greater access to our public lands. On April 5, 2011, the AMA and ATVA sent McCarthy a letter of support for this bill. To view the letter, click here. The Wilderness and Roadless Area Release Act would remove the riding ban on 6.7 million acres managed by the federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and riding restrictions that may be in place for 36.1 million acres of U.S. Forest Service (USFS) land. "As strong supporters of multiple-use principles for our public lands, we should release public lands from restrictive management practices that are unnecessary," McCarthy told his colleagues. "This bill also would preserve and strengthen the robust local land management planning process by returning emphasis to local stakeholders and local communities who know best how to manage their public lands rather than bureaucrats here in Washington." Specifically, this bill would "release" all Wilderness Study Areas (WSAs) controlled by the BLM and Inventoried Roadless Areas (IRAs) managed by the USFS that have been determined by land managers to be unsuitable for congressional Wilderness land-use designations. Motorized recreation is banned on Wilderness land. Moreover, this legislation would terminate the U.S. Department of the Interior Secretarial Order 3310. On Dec. 22, 2010, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar signed Secretarial Order 3310 creating a new land-use designation called Wild Lands that essentially allows officials in the BLM to manage public land as if it had received a "Wilderness" land-use designation from Congress, but without requiring congressional approval. The AMA and ATVA support appropriate Wilderness designations that meet the criteria established by the Wilderness Act of 1964. However, we agree with McCarthy that the Secretarial Order appears to undermine this law. A Wilderness designation is one of the strictest forms of public land management. Once Congress designates an area as Wilderness, nearly all forms of non-pedestrian recreation are prohibited. The Wilderness and Roadless Area Release Act is long overdue and the AMA and ATVA thank McCarthy, Bishop and Pearce for introducing it. For years, anti-access groups have used WSAs and other tactics to inappropriately keep responsible riders off public land that is well suited for motorized recreation. The AMA and ATVA need you to contact your Representative now to urge them to become an original cosponsor to the Wilderness and Roadless Area Release Act of 2011. Just follow the "Take Action" option to send a pre-written e-mail directly to your Representative. https://secure3.convio.net/arra/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=277

General / ATV Activist / OHV trust fund raided

copied from another site.
FLORIDA'S OHV TRUST FUND RAIDED! August 24th, 2009
Looks like the politicians are at it again, and no state seems to be immune. The latest issue of "AMA's News and Notes" contained a blurb we wanted to forward to our members in Florida. Please read and take the requested action.
Florida: Recently the Florida OHV (Off Highway Vehicle) Advisory Committee was notified that the Florida legislature had "swept" $2.37 million from the state's OHV Trust Fund in 2009. Counting the $2 million that was withdrawn from the trust fund by legislative fiat in 2008, a total of $4.37 million has been raided from the trust fund in just two years. The trust fund, which was established by the T. Mark Schmidt Off-Highway Vehicle Safety and Recreation Act of 2002, is funded by a title fee on off-highway vehicles and is supposed to be used to promote OHV recreation and safety.
The Florida Trail Riders are encouraging all of Florida's OHV enthusiasts to contact their state legislators and demand that the money be restored to the OHV trust fund. For more information visit Florida Trail Riders. For assistance identifying or contacting your state legislators visit the "Rights" page of American Motorcyclist: The Official Site of the American Motorcyclist Association, click on "Issues & Legislation" and enter your zip code in the "Find Your Officials" box.
Please pass this important alert on to your friends and family and please ask them take action as well.
Thanks in advance for your involvement, Ric Foster Public Lands Department Manager BlueRibbon Coalition 208-237-1008 ext 107
