1  General / Open Discussion / Re: your college foot ball team on: September 07, 2010, 10:18:09 PM
I went to the University of Central Florida and am a huge fan. We beat the Girl Scouts of America Div II team this weekend.  GO KNIGHTS!

I am so glad that college football season is here.  I hope we go to a playoff type championship, that way the season will last longer, but that will never happen.
2  General / Open Discussion / Goodbye South Florida..... on: July 08, 2010, 03:42:57 PM
I have landed a job in Charlotte, NC and will be moving there on July 17th.  My new job will start July 26th and it was an opportunity I could not pass up.  After living in South Florida for all my 32 years I think its time for a change of pace and quality of life.  My wife and I are really excited about moving there and everyone we have talked to said its a great place to live.  Funny thing about packing is that you never realize how much stuff you have until you move.

There's a difference between simple, as in seeing things in black and white, and stupid. obama is a great reader in front of a teleprompter, but surely couldn't win an award for intelligence

Bush couldn't even read the teleprompter correctly.

Buy,

I definitely like your taste in trucks.  In my opinion, you can't beat that Vortec engine that Chevy makes.  My silverado has 187,000 miles on it and the only thing that I have replaced on it was a fuel pump about 4 months ago.  I also have the 5.3 V8 and it pulls my bass boat like it was a toy.  Post some pics of the new truck.
5  General / Open Discussion / Re: Job Hunters Beware!! on: May 20, 2010, 11:05:27 AM
Good tip.  You can never be sure when it comes to Craigslist.  Too many scammers out there.  I personally use www.indeed.com to look for jobs.  It pulls job postings from several sites like careerbuilder and monster so its like a one stop shop when looking for a job.

Glad to hear you are doing well Americanhighlander.  Park City is a real nice area, I went snow skiing there a year ago in Deer Valley.  I would suggest you get a snowmobile, my wife and I went on a snowmobile tour while we were in Park City and had a blast.  Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.

I am sure with all the "Adult Entertainment" Clubs in N.O. that the Republican National Convention has had a lot of fund raising events there.

Haha.  Wait until they bring out the dogs to search for dead bodies.  The confirmed dead will rise drastically.

Has anyone had any experience with Stag Arms?  Just curious if they make quality rifles.

Sounds like you are low on blinker fluid.

Buythisatvstuff,

Depreciation expense is a deduction allowed for businesses only.  You are correct in that you are essentially deducting it over a period of time, depending on the useful life of the asset.  For something like an ATV used in Mr Bones' business I believe the useful life would be 5 years.
15  General / Open Discussion / Re: I am now a Certified Public Accountant! on: February 25, 2010, 10:50:19 PM
Congratulations!

Now, can I buy a fancy, high tech ATV, put ATVFlorida.com all over it, show it off to riders at Croom and other riding areas, do ride reports to post on this forum, and deduct the whole purchase as a business expense?
If the ATV is used in the business, you cannot deduct the whole purchase price of the ATV in the year that you purchase it. What you would have to do is record the purchase price as an asset in the company's balance sheet and deduct the depreciation on the company's tax return.  For tax purposes you can use an accelerated depreciation method, called a modified accelerated cost recovery system (MACRS), which will allow you to deduct a percentage of the purchase price based on the useful life of the ATV.  This is just a quick explanation.

That iz awwwwwwwwssssuuummmm!!!! :}:} I have one question
I owe  the IRS  3,600 can I telll em to kizzzz my azzzzz?Huh? w/o going to jail Undecided Undecided

I believe the internal revenue code says that as long as your Adjusted Gross Income meets certain thresholds, you are allowed to use a certain number of profanities on your tax return.  As far as owing the IRS money, I believe you can set up a payment plan, but they will likely assess penalties and interest on the amount you owe.

Thanks everyone for the congratulations, I greatly appreciate it.

After several long months of studying for all four parts of the exam, my career goal of being a CPA has become reality.  I know several members on this site have businesses so if you ever have any accounting questions please do not hesitate to ask.  I will only charge you $200 a minute.  Just kidding, just as Anoriginal provides invaluable legal advice free of charge on here, I will do the same.

I used to have a '93 Chevy S-10 that had that same exact motor in it.  Its a great engine.  Maybe try looking at some junk yards for that engine?
20  General / Open Discussion / Re: Definition of a bad day - broken bat update on: February 03, 2010, 06:41:14 PM
Glad everything worked out.  Thats great customer service.  On another note....I can't believe bats have gotten that expensive. I remember when I played baseball in high school, bats started to eclipse $200 and I thought that was outrageous.  I remember it was the Easton ceramic bat that came out for $200.  Does anyone use Easton bats anymore?

Why can't Hamburger Helper be considered a romantic dinner for Valentine's day?  I was even going to light some candles as well!

Why is it that my wife thinks its gross when I pee in the shower?

Probably because she is in the shower with you and doesn't enjoy the golden shower!

Swamper,
Sorry to hijack your thread with my earlier post.

Here's one for you.....why is it that everyone who knows that I drive a pickup truck thinks that I am a moving company?  I swear I have helped 3 different people move into new homes in the past 4 months.
24  General / Open Discussion / Re: WHY IS IT..... on: January 31, 2010, 12:33:49 AM
Diggin,

Let me know how you do in the morning.  I am thinking of bass fishing this afternoon.  I just got finished putting new carpet on the bass boat and replacing the wood on the front deck and floor.  I plan on launching out of Holiday Park but haven't gone fishing since late November, back then the fishing was slow.  BTW, I am gonna have to bust your chops on using shiners......thats cheating.

Miken offers a one year warranty from the date of purchase on their bats. Go to their website www.mikensports.com/warranty/

Hopefully you can find the receipt. On the website you can fill out a return authorization form.
