General / Open Discussion / For all you metallurgists.. which is better and what's the diff ?
|
on: October 31, 2006, 11:42:08 AM

I'm looking at an aftermarket rotor and have seen a couple of different options. One is made of 420 stainless steel and the other is made of 340 stainless. I know general assumption is "bigger number must be better" but I'd like to know from you machinists and metallurgists that know for fact. What is the difference and which is going to be better for a rear brake rotor ?

I'm about to be in the market for some aftermarket shocks. I know I've spoken to a couple people that used to have connections with Elka. If anyone can hook me up with a good price let me know.

The difference between me and so many others is that I ride to have fun. I've never raced, nor do I plan on it. So I go and enjoy myself, while others go nuts worrying who is faster. And ever worse is that while so many talk big about coming in first or how much money they spent getting there that they don't realize that they are just the faster of the slow guys. If they were really that fast in the first place all the others would be buying race products with their names on them. And if I ever want to race it will be you Quad. I'll win for sure. I'll just hide your geritol ![Shocked](http://www.atvflorida.com/forum/Smileys/default/shocked.gif) Calm down and get a tissue Quad, I'm sorry I had to pick on your issues ![Tongue](http://www.atvflorida.com/forum/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) Matt - good move to the 4 stroke ![Grin](http://www.atvflorida.com/forum/Smileys/default/grin.gif)

I don't see any exemption for them below.......
316.1995 Driving upon sidewalk or bicycle path.--No person shall drive any vehicle other than by human power upon a bicycle path, sidewalk, or sidewalk area, except upon a permanent or duly authorized temporary driveway. A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a moving violation as provided in chapter 318.
History.--s. 1, ch. 71-135; s. 1, ch. 76-31; s. 6, ch. 83-68; s. 3, ch. 84-284; s. 150, ch. 99-248.
Note.--Former s. 316.110.
It's called salutary neglect. Basically the cops don't bother them since they aren't seen as a "threat" to safety. They would rather target those moving at higher rates of speed or those on vehicles LIKELY to travel at high rates of speed or operating in an "unsafe" way. Not saying it's right or wrong, just telling it like it is.

It's each individuals' perogative as to if or when they want to contribute and I don't think anyone should be pushed to send in their money. if they want to contribute then great, but they shouldn't be essentially bashed for coming to the site and not sending in money. This is a business and it does generate revenue. i know it started out without any investor support and I think that's great. That Bones has turned a dollar on it , also great. isn't that part of the American dream? But to say it's sad that some don't wish to send money is to me offensive. I've been a member for years also, but don't send money. I'm sure the site is making enough with all the advertisements, etc. Free enterprise is a great thing, and i'm glad the site is here, but a guilt trip for donations isn't the way to go. Everyone has the opportunity to decide if he/she wants to send money and they can do it as they please. I also like Costco, but I'm not going to send them money either. Everyone is entitled to thier opinion, but putting someone down because theirs doesn't match yours is wrong. Money is not the only way to support this site. Visiting which draws in more advertisement is also supporting the site.

I know it used to be very quad friendly, I wonder if it's going to be geared more toward quads or bikes now under the new ownership. If anyone goes this weekend please post pics. It's only 45 min from me and I'd like to know what it's like.

I think it's great you did away with the carpet to the Brazilian style. Looks good, but you must have stuck both hands in to the elbows to get it that clean ![Shocked](http://www.atvflorida.com/forum/Smileys/default/shocked.gif) I just hope it's still in shape enough to hold things in. I'd Hate to see a box so worn out that stuff just falls out ![Sad](http://www.atvflorida.com/forum/Smileys/default/sad.gif)

Notice the name also.... Prob just another fake name for someone to hide behind. And in case you didn't know threads with no other intent than to personally attack someone are against the rules ![Tongue](http://www.atvflorida.com/forum/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)

could i race a warrior? and what class? Do you think it could keep up with the other bikes???
I'm not sure what class you would run in with a warrior. That's a quad that is outdated for serious competition in most race scenes. I know I read an article that Jerimiah Jones started out on a Warrior, but that's been a while and in the article they made light of it calling the Warrior less than desirable for tracks. With all the 450's running around it's going to be hard to be in contention for a podium spot on a Warrior. You could always mod it, but in my opinion you'd be better off just going with a 450 and starting there.

This from the guy that loves to run through the gay pride parade wearing a$$less chaps yelling "come and get it!" LOL Scott - I didn't make it up. I tried to call Quad but he was too old....stupid....I mean busy to answer the phone. I ended up riding with the family and several others here locally. I'll be up at Eureka sometime on Friday the 20th and leaving on that Sunday. Come on up and hang out. And Quad might get the best of me on a track , but that's the only place he gives me competition ![Cool](http://www.atvflorida.com/forum/Smileys/default/cool.gif)

Yep I just wrote down what Quad told me to. Then he was nice enough to buy multiple copies so he could pass them out at his favorite all male bar. He's so nice. He even tries to help out the new visitors by offering to "push in their stool" ![Wink](http://www.atvflorida.com/forum/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
