General / Racing Scene / Re: Supermoto Racing in Ocala. Who Would Come?

A sweeping corner at almost a steady (fairly high) speed. This is with stock tires all the way around. Do you have flat track tires on the rear, and stock tires on the front? If that is the case, I am certain that your "push" is probably all the extra tread that the rear tires have contacting the pavement compared to the fronts. But to answer your first question, no, I did not have to force the rear around whatsovever.

Although your theory makes sense, I recently ran my Lt-r around the industrial park where my shop is (stock tires) and through sweeping corners the bike consisitently got "loose" (rear coming around first) when pushed to the limit. Also don't forget that if your bike tends to "push" on the asphalt, you can always lean as far forward as possible. They do supermoto quads in the west as there was a supermoto banshee recently featured in one of the magazines. I am sure that this will be an awesome form of quad racing, and I hope to participate!!

General / Open Discussion / Re: How old are your kids who ride 4 wheelers

My daughter is only 6 months old, so I have a while until it is her time! But this thread reminds me of when I was introduced to the ATV world in 1985 when I recieved a brand new honda 250sx for my 12th birthday. That was a full size bike for the time!! By the time I was 14, I was on a 250x (one of the first grey ones) with mods, etc. I was taught to NEVER EVER ride without at least helmet, goggles, and boots and still adhere to these rules to this day. My point is that there was nothing at all wrong with it when we were kids (as long as the rules are followed) So I don't see what should be wrong with it now. Skill level, and Physical size should be the factors, in my humble opinion.

And just to let you know, I bought a new quad a couple of months ago, and automatically received my sticker in the mail (the dealer registered it).

Yeah, I have only been able to ride it for 5-7 hours in ONF. The forest is cool, and big, but I am already looking for something more techincal!! I used to MX and TT 10-12 years ago, but that is also the last time (until recently) that I have ridden anything serioulsy. I will have to knock some rust off !! I will try to be there.

I have been wanting to go, just need someone to go with. I may be free sunday, but I won't know for a couple of days. It has been a long time since I have ridden anything very technical, so I may have some rust to knock off!!

General / Open Discussion / Re: Thoughts on LTR 450 and thanks for the advice!!

That is what I meant by mods (plural) Cherry bomb, baffle, and airbox lid. It would seem to me that I had better put on a K&N or similar type filter on at the same time I remove the airbox lid. I think sand would find its way easily through the stock "foam" filter. What does everyone else think about that?

General / Open Discussion / Thoughts on LTR 450 and thanks for the advice!!

Well, after asking on this site what quad to buy (see "Help me pick a quad, Please" thread on P.7) I still was planning on going against the advice I was given and was going to buy an old school 2 stroke. After several unsuccessful attemts to buy a 250R (like I rode back in the day) for what I thought should be a reasonable price, I ended up purchasing a LTR450. I only have ridden it for a couple of hours in ONF (I live 10 min. from Eureka) I must say that I am very glad I took the advice I was given!!!!!! I would, however, only say the motor is adequate in stock form and nothing more. I did purchase the cherry bomb with the bike, but am not going to do the mods until my break in period is finished. I have to keep telling myself that this is like only having 3/4 throttle!! Even at that the power is still adequate. The suspension on this quad is far beyond what I ever thought possibe. This may not mean much though as the best suspension I have it to compare to is old school stuff. Mistakes on whoops that were before borderline catastrophic or worse are now literally just a little bit uncomfortable. ATVs have come along way in the last 10 years! I just wanted to thank everyone that gave me advice, and to rave about my new toy!!!

I am just north of Ocala and actually would love the opportunity to at least run one up through the gears before I bought one. The YFZ is a very impressive looking unit. I really appreciate the replies so far...

Everytime I think I have my mind made up, I change it. I guess I will have to tell you my life story for you to be able to truly help me. I used to MX, and TT from the years of 1986-1993 on all kinds of different quads from modded 250x 4 strokes (when they first came out) to 250r honda, Blaster, and Quadracer 250. I am a small guy at 150lbs and I do personally put a premium on handling. I also like a light quad as I realize that my body weight and its ratio to the quads weight is very important to handling. The honda 250r was the best quad all around I have ever had, but the drawbacks to buying one are obvious, possible lack of parts in the future, most don't have paperwork etc.. I had my mind set on a banshee either new or barely used but the weight has been a concern, and what is really turning me off is atv magazine that says "we will miss the motor, but not the stone age suspension." There are alot of really impressive looking new four strokes on the market that fit my bill perfectly such as the YFZ450 (Hadn't thought about a quad in years, went to Yamaha with a friend and saw a new Bill Balance edition, and it rekindled my love for atv's single handedly) The Honda 450r, and of course the new Suzuki everyone is raving about. Only problem is, I have never ridden a four stroke that has truly satisfied me power-wise. They say the new ones are really awesome, but I would hate to be disappointed. I am 33 years old and want to ride mostly ONF and Croom, but will frequent the pits, and jumps, along with fast as I can go trail riding. I know this has been really long winded, but I just wanna make the right decision and who better to ask than all of you who have had their finger on the pulse of ATV riding. Thank you in advance for your replies!!!

I am looking at a used 2001 banshee and the guy says he has no title to it. Should I retreive the serial number and have DMV search it before I buy to insure that I will be able to get a croom/state sticker? Thanks in advance.
