Every place gets ruined...one of our other spots is on the way to being closed down from people shooting there...FWC isn't too happy about that either
Yep , That location was quiet for decades and never had a problem there. I used to put in my airboat behind the substation and run parrallel with the power lines , never had a problem but the truth is no location can handle the volume of traffic and not expect trouble. What is upsetting is the ignorance with regards to the FPL site. During dry conditions ,dust and errosion around the perimiter of that site was too much. Dust can also wreck havoc with electrical systems and lead to short circuits, reduced electrical efficiency due dust deposits and power failures. Like very heavy / dense smoke the likes of a forrest fire , severe dust does affect certain power components , accelerated oxidation is another side affect. So ..FPL has very valid concerns. In all fairness with regards to law enforcement clamping down out there and lets not cast all blame in one direction. Even though irressponsible ATV'rs are a problem out there lets not fail to mention the criminals that use remote locations to dump trash , tires ,roofing materials , stolen vehicles , aircraft parts and toxic chemicals. Last but not least , you're with in a stones throw of a major south florida correctional facility and its adjacent staff homes. In the end I hope the area was enjoyed and many good memories made because a permanent closure is inevitable.

Nice Texas Cougars there.....
If people really knew and understood what's going on with the "panthers" in the Cypress, they'd change their tune.
Yep much larger than the Fla Panther . There's a forth one with a collar ,not shown in this pic.

I remember when this was a fun place to come to. Maybe Bones can build a website called pissin match.com. Nothing wrong with this site at all, its just a sign of the times. Countless locations are off limits now compared to 30 even 20 years ago and its only going to get worse. The days off driving to the outskirts of the city limits and riding long trails without crowds will come to an end and has already done so through out So Fla. As "riding spots" dry up the remainder will get even more crowded with newer riders and in no time the law will get involved. Sad situation .........take up golf or bingo .

Hey Matt. Its been slow for me this season. Passed 2 legal spikes opening of muzzle loading and one 3" second week. I seen one 7pt which a friend ended up taking and thats it.
Only time there's been activity was during the new moon combined with a cold front. The Lunar calendar's been fairly accurate. There's been a couple of nice bucks taken checked out and one hog .
However , I seen 1 panther and another hunter seen 2 crossing turner rvr rd. A dead cat was found and retrieved not far from where I was seeing the research plane circling. Found tracks and scat on a trail I was clearing last sunday afternoon. Just remembered , another account of an encounter mentioned , near Birdon.
The so called Florida Panther needs to be de-listed , but will never happen as long as its funding carreers and projects at a federal level. We have way too many cats roaming the cypress in my humble opinion. As a life long tennant of the area ,whats your take on this subject?

Before that location was trashed , they were at approximately the 1600 block of sw 177ave (Krome Ave) . A location some called the asylum , which was an old WWII facility. There are several empty buildings where they played paintball games . Down side was all the trash left up and down Krome Ave. The county shut it down , cleaned and barricaded the location . I guess they moved to the new location.

Ignorance , stupidity, incompetence or just plain necessity .....dont know if its one or all but regardless there's the end result. Now , what are the odds of the camera operator being on site at the right moment to capture this?
I feel much safer on a motor cycle than in the bed of a pick up.

The sad part is if it was not for the few people that go out there and run over trees and litter and destroy wetlands and generally just don't give a shizit this type of thing would not have to happen. This type of action will be taking place in the J.W. Corbitt area within the next 3 to 5 years also.
Yep, You're probably about Corbett . I just wish folks wouldn't post videos on Youtube of them selves mudding, doing donughts, racing etc in WMA's, for the world to see. Wildlife management areas are not mudding areas , thats what screwing things up. We seen it in area 3/ holeyland , we have it in the cypress and corbett. Not to worry , the inevitable happens.

This has been in the works for a long time ,at least since 96' when the first set of meetings where held under Donahue's reign. Some of those meetings were very heated to say the least and I can remember the shock most had when the first set of changes/restrictions were implemented back in 2000. That year forced many to adjust to ORV operators licenses, mandatory course, new inspections ,no kids under 16 allowed to drive ,designated access points, massive loss of access, night time closures , airboat trails and the prohibition of Tire Chains.
I remember the frustrated look one old man had when he took his old 2wd buggy in for inspection one weekend only to be told that he would have to take the tire chains off and could not use them going forward. That was a turning point for so many back then that most of the folks I hunted with for years simply got fed up and never returned.
Ten years has come and gone , now dispersed use will come to an end and enforcement will be a top priority for the NPS. My advice to those who ride out there is to abide by the rules unless you want to be the first one find out what the fines will be.
