1  General / Open Discussion / Re: WHATS THE LONGEST TRAILS RIDE U HAVE BEEN ON?? on: February 07, 2013, 01:14:17 PM
I've been on a couple of 70-80 mile rides but the most memorable/longest ride was out at River Ranch with a big group. We only went 14 miles but it took over 10 hours. The ride took so long due to everything being completely flooded and we had ATV's UTVs and Jeeps in the group. Was a great ride.

Are you sure that's just a tune?

Yes 100%. I took that video and was standing next to the dyno when it was loaded. Car has 200 miles on it. Without the tune it went 12.84 @ 111. There was another 2011 a week or so that went 12.79 @ 110 and if you look around the Mustang forums there are people that have gone anywhere from 12.7-13.1 at 109-115 in stock trim.
3  General / Open Discussion / Re: I feel sorry for Ford sales people right now on: June 30, 2010, 05:07:51 PM
What kind of car?

judging by the numbers he was mentioning it looks like the 2011 Mustang. It's reported to have 412 HP from the stock motor for the GT models.

Yep. 2011 Mustang GT, 6 speed Manual.

4  General / Open Discussion / Re: I feel sorry for Ford sales people right now on: June 28, 2010, 05:41:55 PM
I just saw the specs on the new Mustangs. Ford had to step it up to compete with Chevy and the new Camaro in the HP department.
The new V-6 has 305 HP and the new 5.0 is pushing out 412 HP. Can you imagine them trying to sell the left over 2010 models ? The new V-6 has more HP than the old GT  Shocked
I'm guessing they don't have too many 2010's left anyway, just saying.........

I am glad to see they stepped it up to stay competitive though. more proof that competition is a good thing. 300 hp and 30+ mpg is pretty good when just a few years ago the GT had just 260 HP.

But , with all that said, the Camaro is still the way to go  Cool

I wouldn't want to be one of those salesman. We got out shop car last week and made 385RWHP bone stock and 400RWHP with an off the shelf tune. Typically you get a 15% drivetrain loss through a manual trans, that puts the flywheel numbers about 450 and 470 with the tune so it's pretty safe to say that 412 HP is underrated. With the tune we went 12.54 @ 112.63 this past Friday on the stock 19" tires.

you can fish.just dont go off the grade or trail 6 or the tomota field grade,or the l-8 .you can go there anytime you want.theres nowhere else to fish other than  those areas for the most part  .  those areas and you are alowed there year around.if jeeps and trucks and utv's are so much better than buggys than why are they being banned and not buggys?we the buggy owners are nothing special.so aparantly they do less damage.like i said before just look at holylands .buggys there since in day 1 decads ago.a few years with atv and the place is trashed.so if your point is everybody but the hunters are the good guys than your a dumb ass.all i care about are keeping these places open.and when the day comes they ban buggies in corbett.i will sell mine and keep hunting.but as long as they just stop all the jack bags from tearing it up with trucks.jeeps, utv's for now i think its great.go pay to tear up some privete land somewhare these are hunting areas not l-cross or river ranch.

Better go back and read the new rules the only roads you are allowed to drive on are improved roads only and that means you can ride from North gate to South gate and that's it. If you are talking fishing only then yes any of the marked trails are fine.

Actually the only thing that's really been banned is the UTV's. You can take a Jeep, Truck or Buggy anywhere you want if you are hunting. The ATV's I can completely understand why they were banned, they were tearing up the place bad and causing a lot of problems. The UTV's did the least amount of damage out of anything out there but plenty of the hunters I talked to out there were pissed that a UTV could go out but not an ATV. What's really messed up is just about every time out there I ran into at least 1-2 people with UTV's that were hunters.

The problem is you just can't separate the idiots that go mudding (in any vehicle) out there versus trail ride. In the years I rode out there I NEVER came back to the main gate covered in mud.

And no it's not just a hunting area it's a wildlife management area for all to see and experience not just kill stuff.
6  General / Open Discussion / Re: Big Cypress Designated Trails on: June 17, 2010, 12:51:47 PM
Do the new Corbett rules define  "hunting"? If I simply buy a hunting license, install a gun rack and dress like Elmer Fudd, can I drive my Jeep and Zook off of Tomato Road?

No but what going out riding solo is no fun. Getting 3-5 people together to trail ride is blast out there and you aren't going to pull that off by just looking like a hunter. As Matt said they aren't stupid.

As for Matt's comments, the buggies tear up just as much property as the trucks and UTVs ever did. I've been trail riding out there for 4 years in my Rhino and have been off trail maybe two times to get around something. I never went out there to "mud" I just like riding around. I've seen plenty of big trucks/buggies tear up off trail trying to make it to their hunting area. I know there are morons that do tear up trails but mostly by tomato grade where for the most part there is hunting, that was the purpose of leaving it open year around for everyone.

We'll now see what the hunters do with it. I've volunteered a handful of times over the last few years for the clean up days, always paid for a year round pass and did my best to support the place but that's over.
7  General / Open Discussion / Re: Big Cypress Designated Trails on: June 16, 2010, 05:31:51 PM
Corbett has new rules and it's basically off limits for any trail riding. Hunters only and if you aren't hunting you are only allowed on the improved road, which is the main road connecting the North and South entrances. No mention of wheel base either so that also makes RUV's off limits, ATV's have been banned from there for some time.
8  General / Product and Services Reviews / Re: Gibson Truck World Vs. Nations Truck and SUV Center on: February 25, 2010, 12:36:04 PM
I can only comment on Gibson myself as that is who I dealt with. I was hesitant due to some of the negative stories I've heard on this site and a couple of others. At the time I was searching for a stock Dodge 2500 Mega cab and Gibson was the only one that had one in my price range. The carfax was perfect on the truck and it was bone stock. Yes the undercarriage was painted black but I do the same thing to my vehicles I'm trading in, as well as detailing them top to bottom.

Being in WPB I dealt with my sales rep mainly via email asking questions and ball parking some numbers, financing, etc... I made the trip up and we took test drives in both vehicles, took the tour of the shop and was out the door with my Dodge in 2.5 hours. I ended up with $800 more than I expected for my trade in and no surprises. That was 4 months ago and the truck has been flawless.

That being said I would never buy a used lifted truck unless it was stupid cheap or I knew the trucks history personally. It's way too easy to mask problems that dealers won't catch in a test drive and the buyer gets screwed and blames the dealer. Most of the complaints I read about for Gibson, Nations and even Knights were related to lifted trucks and problems found after the fact.

I'd be curious to see this as well. Over the past few months I've tried and was looking at $10k in closing costs due to lenders advertising lower rates that included paying down points.

the rays its just amazing for the 10 years being a team or w/e they were last place I think for 9 years now they are 1st and have the lowest salary out of all the teams.  I always like seeing the underdogs win.  i cant wait for the game tonight.  last night man they were throwin some fast pitches and then what was up with all of those balls hittin the dirty

4th lowest actually.

27 Devil Rays $44,936,263
28 Nationals $39,811,000
29 Pirates $39,162,008
30 Marlins $35,544,833

I'm not a Rays fan but I'm pulling for them to win either way. They are still an underdog to me

This morning an the way to work in Palm Beach County. there is a Mobil station on the corner of Summit & Congress, diesel was $3.99 a gallon.

The Chevron on Southern right before the turn off at 441 is also $3.99 a gallon for diesel. Of course the Shell a half mile before it is still at $4.45 a gallon.

Not sure if any of you have noticed but prices have been going down daily if not weekly on all types of fuel. It's not going to bottom out over night. What you all have to keep in mind is when a barrel of oil trades at $102 that is for an oil future, meaning oil to be bought a month or two from now. That isn't the price of oil right now. That $102 a barrel price won't be seen for another month and yes prices will continue to slowly drop even with hiccups like Ike coming through. The major driving force behind all this crap was the speculators and just the other day there was an article about it. Multiple investors/speculators had some $49 billion invested in oil futures and since early July nearly $37 billion of that money has been pulled out. Even the government is looking at ways to prevent speculators from being able to drive the price up so high.

Oh and to the person saying we'll $5 a gallon next year...uhh no. I recall a few people saying we would be at $175 a barrel and $5 this summer and guess what didn't happen. People have their limit and those falsely driven up prices pushed people to their brinks and they cut out unnecessary travel because of it and dropping the demand.

We went out there for new years this last year and had no prob at all. Was out there for 5 days. Saw a few sheriffs and none said anything. But we also showed respect and walked our bikes across the pea-vine and ranch 101 road whenever we would cross, picked up after ourselves, etc. Also whenever we would pass someone who lives out there we would go by slowly and quietly out of repect for the homeowners. Plus we try to stay off the roads and stick to the trails.

Unfortunately it's too little too late. Too many people abused the place for years and pissed off the locals, trashed the place and people have had it. Combine that with more residents that are less tolerant of ATV's and offroad vehicles and you can basically number the days that anyone can even think about riding out there. You may be respectful now but that doesn't mean you won't run into a pissed off local that might take a shot at you or accidentally forget to chain his dogs down or run into that sherrif that just had another ATVer run from him and decides to ticket you and impound your ATV.

20  General / Open Discussion / Re: New Florida Motorcycle laws-Effective 01 Oct, 2008 on: September 09, 2008, 04:48:31 PM
I can understand why they wanted to add those laws but it also means people can be harassed for no reason. You do 50 over or a wheelie in front or in view of a cop you deserve to be pulled over. The tag law seems bs to me as alot of people do that just for looks but unfortunately the habitual offenders that the other two laws are designed to stop also try and hide their tag. So anyone with their tag mounted elsewhere are going to get pulled over just because.

I do agree these new laws and the fines associated with them is going to cause no riders to run and endanger more people.

Here is a prime example of a tragedy of a no helmet very slow speed accident. Was right next to the truck not even 20 feet away.

Jennifer Chapman.

Need I say more?

Yes that is a tragedy. However that instance nor the posting of pictures of riders without helmets is going to change most peoples minds including mine. Blocking the pictures simply limits the sharing of good times we all have, some with helmets and some without.
22  General / Open Discussion / Re: Attention all members on: September 03, 2008, 01:42:39 PM
I say change it. I think it limits the people that want to share pics from mudding events that don't feel the need to wear helmets. There are hundreds of ATV sites out there and very few go to the extent to block pictures of riders without helmets. I understand why the rule was put in place and I understand the site is about promoting safe riding but allowing the pictures is not going to change the way anyone feels about ATV riders. Fact is when you look at it alot of the people opposing this are sport riders and in that type of riding I can see wearing a helmet all the time as it's a much faster pace and more dangerous.

23  General / Open Discussion / Re: Bush lifts ban on drilling!! on: July 16, 2008, 05:25:26 PM
trx#9, i don't think OPEC has as much to do with it as you think.  If you look at the graph on page 18, you'll see that historically as surplus (oil reserves) go up, price goes down (this is from 2006, don't have current data).

www.senate.gov/~levin/newsroom/supporting/2006/PSI.gasandoilspec.062606.pdf

This isn't what's been happening the last couple years, inventories AND prices are at record highs.  OPEC producing more will only mean more reserves, in my opinion, and not a reduction of price.  Speculators may or may not change buying practices based on news of increased production.

additionally, while Europe is substantially higher, they also produce a much better quality fuel, which is one of the reasons Europeans get better mileage than we do.
I don't know, if Opec cut production by 10 percent i'm sure oil will go to 200 dollars a barrel.

Of course it would but not because OPEC raised the prices but because the investors of the world will jump on the futures because of the reduction of supply. OPEC leaders have been discussing how to reduce prices because of the skyrocketing prices. They see how it is leading to less usage on our part which is what they count on. If prices continue to go up people will drive less and less reducing demand and thus hurting their profits. So it's in their best interests to keep the prices at a reasonable level so the demand for their product is still high. The only people that benefit from high oil prices are the speculators trading in futures.

Bill
24  General / Open Discussion / Re: Bush lifts ban on drilling!! on: July 16, 2008, 01:58:55 PM
The problem is oil speculators trading in futures not OPEC. The speculators do nothing but trade those futures back and forth with other speculators based on the market. That is the problem. That's why if the offshore drilling bad is lifted it "could" help prices come down now because it's more supply. All it takes is one analyst stating that we "could" see $150 a barrel of oil due to holiday traffic and the price jumps $5 even though production and reserves are unchanged. Usually at any given time 20% of the price of oil is nothing but speculation the rest being the actual cost of oil. There have been articles lately saying that that speculation is actually closer to 40-50% right now with all the BS going on.

25  General / Open Discussion / Re: Scott Kalitta on: June 24, 2008, 05:48:47 PM
There was a net at the end of the sand pit before the wall at that speed it didn't make a difference. The first explosion may have stunned him but if you watch the video closely his rear tires were locked up he was on the brakes but way too late and yes the chute was out but already burnt to hell. Englishtown does have a fairly short shut down area (about 1/4 mile) in comparison to most NHRA tracks that have 3/8 or 1/2 mile but given how fast he hit at the end it's hard to speculate he would have survived at any other track.

Although some said he didn't pass till at the hospital there was an interview with another FC racer that went to Kalitta's crew chief who was on the phone in the pits with the family and said he was gone. This was while they were transporting him.

In an event like this when someone is taken so quickly they won't announce it for a while so they have time to notify the family first. Same thing happened in 2002 when Steve Grebeck wrecked at the Fun Ford Event in Orlando. I was there watching and a friend was one of the first to his car and he was already gone. They didn't announce it for a while but when you see his girlfriend and family there at the track totally distraught and not traveling to the hospital you know.

It's a tragic death and a horrible tragedy. Sad
