In Ocala National Forest you are only allowed to take "dead and down" trees for firewood.
That is there policy.

When I was there last it seemed as though the forest service has been out with there chain saws quite aggressively cutting down perfectly good healthy trees and putting them right in front of all the good trails that we used to be able to ride on.

Do you suppose that is an attempt to block 99 percent of the riding that we used to enjoy in our public National Forest , or is it possible that our government just might be doing something positive for us taxpayers who own this forest , by providing us with some firewood for our camping enjoyment ?

Hey LTZ bring your ass on out in the open. You talk big sh*t on here so let's see in person what you're about. I'm quite sure I'll handle anything your ass can bring on and if I can't I'll damn sure have fun trying.

It certainly does seem as though the Forest Service has a problem remembering that ONF and any other National Forest in this country belongs to me,you, and anyone else that pays taxes.

They are employed by "The People" all of us that have ownership in this land.

However ....Who are there boses?

They answer to the "Special Interest Group" who screams the loudest. Everyone is in one weather you are for or against ORV riding in any National Forest.

Right now it appears as though "They" are screaming louder then "WE" are.

I live in Ohio and have seen many of hundreds of miles of trails just go away because these Special Interst Groups.

I will say to Lisa and any other person who are behind keeping ONF open for ORV riding.  Keep on doing what you are doing and remember who "They" are.

If you are not willing to spend some time fighting for your "Special Interest" then the freedom that we now enjoy riding in this National Forest or any other National Forest will certainly go away.

Why fight against all those who closed down 95% of the forest already, when we can fight amongst ourselves and give them all the reasons they want to shut down the remaining forest, and blame it on us.   They have given us an untenable and unusable forest plan doomed for failure, as they intended it to fail.  They have done it well as they have had lots of practice in other National Forests and Parks to implement these plans which have the sole purpose to make us out as the bad guys as we turn on each other out of frustration.   Do I condone these actions of the Jeeps and ATVers or vandals in question, NO,NO,NO.  Is the closures, rules, etc etc, designed to cause the frustration which causes this behavior, I Believe YES, as it will lead to their goal, COMPLETE CLOSURE!!!

LeBlanc's......You hit the nail right on the head with this one.

Up here in Ohio, The Forest Service built us a "Trail System" that closed down 90% of the riding that we once had in Wayne National Forest.

The "Trail System" was built for our own good with all the promises of trail maintainence and all that stuff.
We started out with about 400mi of trails.

All of the sudden..................

We started hearing "Due to the ever increasing costs of trail maintainence" we must now sell you trail permits to ride this trail system.

A few more years go by and you started hearing again...."Due to the ever increasing costs of trail maintainence" Then the Forest Service started to close down the trails.

A little more time goes by........ Then you started hearing about some kind of frog that is on the endangered species list. There goes more trails.

And what about all the miles of trails that were just closed with no explaination at all.

We are now down to about 70mi of trails and the trail permits have just been increased X2.

You are darn right.  The Forest Service knows exactly what they will do with all these trails in the long run.

Created confusion......That is what they are best at. And the goal for the long term is "Complete Closure"

When they say DAMAGE..do they mean all the logging they are doing?

I mean the way they just rip down an entire section of forest for timber, that doesn't stress out the environment does it?

Surely ATV use must be much more damaging than that, no?

How much BS can they spew?

How much BS do they expect ALL OF US to take ?

13  General / Open Discussion / Re: Lake Delancy Or Big Scrub ? on: January 30, 2006, 01:20:08 PM
Gotta camp because I have no other place to stay.
Are there less restricted areas at Big Scrub than there are at Lake Delancy ?
14  General / Open Discussion / Lake Delancy Or Big Scrub ? on: January 29, 2006, 03:32:06 PM
I am comming down from Ohio next weekend 2-4-06 and plan on doing some riding in Ocala National Forest and am going to speedweeks at Daytona. I plan on doing some camping and riding.
I have been at both places before and I like the camping better at Lake Delancy. The trails didn't seem to be as whooped out there either.
My question is,  Can you still ride your quads out of both campgrounds ?
Where are the better trails?   Scrub or Delancy?                                         It seems as though they are taking alot of your riding areas away from you guys, that's to bad, I have really enjoyed the freedom that there has been in the past.
I will have a GPS so long distances would be OK with me.
