1  General / Where to Ride? / Croom, checking for spark arrestors? on: July 31, 2007, 04:38:21 PM
I haven't been to Croom in several years and a few of my buddies were planning a trip. Someone told me they now required spark arrestors. My MX bike doesn't have one. Has anyone been out there lately that can tell me if they are checking for them or is it a rule just to cover their behinds? It's a 4 hour drive for me so I'd hate to drive there and get turned away at the gate.
2  General / Tech Corner / Re: Rev limiter ???? on: May 02, 2005, 02:47:53 PM
You may be able to pick up a used DRZ400E CDI. The rev limiter on those is 10,500. They are compatable. Don't get the DRZ400S version. They kick in at 10,000. I see them on ebay once in a while.
3  General / Where to Ride? / Re: Where to Legally Ride in Palm Beach County on: April 13, 2005, 01:02:57 PM
After looking at the pics of the county commissioners on the PBC web site I think the only "4 wheeler" they have ever seen is a Porsche Cayenne. Probably have to give each of them one to get something on the agenda. If someone does manage to get the item on the agenda I will be there though. Anyone know what became of the St Lucie commision meetings on setting land aside for riders? I thought they were working on this late last year. Wasn't one of the commisioners up there a rider? Might have bettery luck than in Palm Beach.

Cast iron sleeve in a Z400 cylinder is asking for problems. You have sent the cylinder to Millenium and had it bored and re nikasiled. A lot of people who have used the "cheap" 440 iron sleeves in their DRZ400's have had reliability issues. Going from nikasil to an iron liner sent the technology of your cylinder back by 30 years.

I second the shift fork theory. It doesn't take much. A slightly bent shift fork and then the engagement dogs on the gears start to round. It will probably get worse with time.

Sounds lean. If you wack open the throttle and it bogs before reving it is probably lean. Try raising the needle in the carb. (Lower the clip). If this doesn't help I would suspect the carb needs cleaned.

Couple of tricks for when you drill/ tap it. If you can have someone blow compressed air through the oil fill hole. It will keep the metal shavings from going into the motor. They will blow out as the bit cuts. You can also put wheel bearing grease on the tap and drill bit and clean it often. This will also trap the metal shavings and you don't need air. Good Luck!
