I would say so, yes. There were plenty of trails and lots to see. My husband and oldest son did more riding than I did - I stayed back at the campground with the younger kids a bit (was tired out by then!) but they came back happy and exhausted (and muddy!!!) each time. Also, there are trails there that are off of the HM system. They call them "outlaw" trails and they are never-ending. You could ride forever, it seems. But they aren't maintained and there aren't maps. If you end up chatting with a local at the campground they can tell you about them. But just the HM trails are plenty for days and days of riding. The campground is great, seriously. It has a website at www.atvresort.com .

We went up to WV last July to ride the HM trails. It was an unbelievable experience. We all (my husband and I, four kids aged 4-14) had a great time. We really studied the website www.trailsheaven.com before we went, to try to understand it as much as we could. We moved around a bit because we wanted to get a taste of the whole area. First, we stayed at the Twin Hollow Campground a few nights to ride the Browning Fork trail system. (near Gilbert). Beautiful mountain views, and direct ride onto the trails. They have cabins and large RV sites. A little hairy getting up the road to the campground, but doable with a dually truck and a 40 foot gooseneck rig. The owners were very helpful and friendly. We also stopped at the Pinnacle Creek Campground to check out the trail there. Not at all a pretty campground - more a gravel parking lot, so be aware what you're getting. If you just want a sorta cheap place to park and you don't care that you're in a truckstop parking lot, well then OK. You have to ride along a somewhat busy paved road for 2-3 miles to get to the trailhead. I didn't like it. Next stop was the Ashland KOA to ride the Indian Ridge Trail. Hands-down, this was the best part of our trip. We stayed in a nice camping cabin there, full bath and kitchen. Playground for the kids, hiking trails if you want to stretch your legs, laundry, small general store at the front, ride directly into town or directly onto the trails. Historic shops and restaurant in town. Super friendly people. All in all, worth the drive from South Florida. We will definitely be visiting this area again. They were challenging trails on down to easy ones for the younger members of the party, but most all were clearly marked and mapped. If anyone has any more questions, especially from a Mom's point of view, just ask - like if your wife isn't sure this is a good family trip, I felt very comfortable with my four kids there, and I am a pretty protective parent. We all loved it!

The particular name of the over-18 section is immaterial. Don't get caught up in that argument. The point is that some people do not seem to be able to distinguish between what is and what is not appropriate on a forum supposedly dedicated to ATV fun. Even though I am a guy, I dont appreciate the trash that is spouting from one or two people here. I know I'm not the only one who has kids who frequent this board. Take it somewhere else.

I have hade no problem with anything missing.
You just jinxed your self. Trust me it will happen out there if you are there long enough. As for the original question, the sugar sand is bad, but nothing a sport quad cant handle. I have been going out there since the 80's & it hasnt changed. You almost dont need a 4x4 truck if you know the right trails to go on. I pulled my 16' trailer loaded with 4 quads all the way to our camp on northside in 2WD last time out a month 1/2 ago. As for speed limit, I have been there & had people in beater trucks pass me going 20-30 & large groups of ute riders going faster than me coming the other way with vampire tires kicking up more dust than my shredders will ever make. RR is a cool place, but all the fees, rules & unanswered questions turn off a lot of people. Also, adults on sport quads are given some really bad vibes while riding out there. IMHO I have ridden my yfz there for three years now and no one has given me a bad time. Some of the country folk look at me as if I'm from the moon...but I think that's because I wear a helmet. Nevertheless, the posts I read where people joke about shooting sport riders, running them over with trucks, etc. are unnerving. Regarding the sugar sand...I haven't been out since the fire, but the main grade had gotten very soft south of mud dobber. Not quicksand, but I saw two trucks stuck in it.

yfz122...I suspect that they are trying to scare you away from RR. The sugar sand is deep in places, but I make it just fine on my yfz. My son does fine on his blaster and even my daughter gets through on her kfx80. If you go, you will need to get a membership at the front gate. Bring your deed, a tax receipt and an a$$ pocket full of money. Be respectful when you ride. Keep it slow on the main grade (no donuts...please) and in the camping area. Oh, and watch out for drunken idiots coming the other way.

And now for a serious response... Yes, it is worth riding despite the fees and guest policy. Definitely ride it before you decide to sell it. It can get very wet during the summer, but dry season is great for sport quads. The trails are two-way, so be very careful and don't haul ass unless you can see what's coming. Also be aware that some of the more vocal RR members on this site dislike sport riders and want to keep RR a secret (RR posts in open forum are discouraged). Nevertheless, let me know if you decide to try it...maybe we can meet up and I'll show you around.

Regarding kids riding, my situation is this - My teenage son and I can ride the more advanced trails, but I am trying to convince my wife that this is a cool scenic place that she and the younger kids could still enjoy. On the gravel trails for her and my two daughters will they see pretty scenery and is it a worthwhile drive up from Florida. We are thinking of combining this with a trip to Durhamtown (have been twice and love it). Just want to keep peace in the family!

We visited both Durhamtown and Broad River over the Christmas holidays. We loved them both. DP is a sport rider's paradise. It is well established and there's lots to do. I'd say BR is more utility oriented (definitely more mud), although they did have a sweet, quad friendly MX track that was over 3 miles long. BR is also less hilly than DP. Also, be aware that BR is off a very long, narrow dirt road. I recommend visiting both places...you won't be disappointed.

Ditto lawn man. You probably missed it but my son flipped going into a turn on the first lap of our last practice. He said something about a rut and getting into the front brake too hard but it was end over end. Thank God (once again) he's fine and his quad is also. Now I'm thinking about an extended swing arm (Nick's blaster was inspiring). Have fun at the QS!

General / Tech Corner / Re: Blaster ?

Yes u can...I did it. I used wheel spacer/adapters that changed the bolt circle to 4/115 and allowed us to run the factory wheels from my yfz. They increased the rear track width by 2 inches (1 inch per side) which made the quad more stable. I got them from Dennis Kirk ( www.denniskirk.com). They are part #550450 ($79.95). Another way to do this is change out the wheel hubs with a set that is 4/115. Lonestar racing makes a set of hubs for the blaster for $175 (p/n 550404). They will fit the banshee also so I would guess that the banshee hubs would fit the blaster. If you go with stock banshee hubs I think you will need ones 1991 or newer to get 4/115. Good luck.

Global warming is total BS. It is junk science that is being hyped for political ends. Check out http://www.junkscience.com/Michael Crichton's book, "State of Fear", while fiction, puts it all in perspective. Crichton also wrote "The Andromeda Strain", "Jurassic Park", etc. (in case you didn't already know).

Thanks. Yes I verified 2 up is ok. I am planning to visit in June. Just got back from Broadriver a week ago. Saw a few people riding two up, I dont think they would have a problem with it. They do require everyone to wear a helmet though.
Did you like it randyz?

Does anyone know what the rules are for Broad River? I have a 2 year old son I would like to take on a slow trail ride with me riding double.

what type of riding is there? All mud...or what? I have a banshee...do I want to go there? It depends how desperate you are. There are a few big mud holes/ponds and a couple of trail loops. The trails scare me to death because the grass is usually high and you can't see if someone is coming the other way (or if there's a cow on the trail) until it's too late. I have seen sports do laps around the main camping area, but the last time I was there the trucks had rutted it up so bad, riding was downright painful. There's certainly enough room to build a track or a few more trail loops and who knows, maybe Edward would do it if we asked.

Try giving Edward a call and asking when the bamboo sale starts. Here's a quote from his underbamboo newsletter so I think its ok to call: "If you wish to call prier to your visit the phone #863-634-1084 or better yet Nextel radio 158*17*10563." The bamboo sale thing is NOT just a ruse...I have bought a couple of bamboo trees from him.
