General / Tech Corner / Re: Hey Honda guys

Is it an 2005? I know of two pwople that had a problem with their tranny's when under a load like that. The dogs on the gears wore down and he lost 1st-3rd gears. They would work fine , until put under a load then the motor would rev up (like in neutral) and the tranny did not engage. Both had to be tore out rebuilt $$$. The were both 2005 S models.

I have seen them on Hondas, but not a Grizz. The increase the noise, not really in a good way IMO. You should increase your main jet and you may need to adjust the needle as well. The increased airflow may cause the bike to run a little lean, plus to get the max power more fuell will be needed.
THere are two ways to look at it. Its not that much $$ to experiment or you can take your stock endcap off and see if you like that sound. It will be close.

Its not the darkside, you have seen the light! LIGHTER steer? fer crying out loud, I took it out on the (OH NO CALL THE COPS) road ,,,,like it wanted to turn more without me trying.
Thats because its full time 4wd. Look into getting the Warn 424. Which will allow you to dissengage/engage the front diff, allowing it to steer better/easier on the trails. Then you can engage the 4wd when you hit the serious stuff. It is the best mod you can put on a full time 4wd bike.

General / Tech Corner / Re: Valve adjustment on a Rincon

The hardest part and most time consumng is removing the plastic and gas tank to expose the valve covers/inpection holes. Just make sure the bike is aboslutely cold when you adjust them (let it sit overnight kind of thing). My freind had a Snap-On valve adjustment tool from his Honda race car, and it worked perfectly and quickly. Make sure you have a good set of feeler gauges as well.

No camo for the Foreman. You could get a kit from Camo Clad and put the camo pattern over your old plastics. I haven't looked at the prices in a while bu tits probably a little cheaper than new plastics.

I have seen a Raptor w/ 28 outlaws on the rear. But it had a sprocket that had to be 18" in dia. But it would spin the heck out of those tires.

Idleing too high? or he adjusted the limiter on the throttle?
The A/F mixture screw, if thats what you need adjusted, is usually set at 2-2.5 turns out.

If you want sped and stabilty go with the Prairie 700 (or one of its clone) or the Rincon. The Rincon does not has the power of the Prairie's V-Twin but its fuel injected, IRS and possibly the best "trail bike" of all the Big Bores.
And I would love to see a 250 Recon do 50+mph. Was it in the back of your truck or on a trailer at the time???

General / Tech Corner / Re: oil in the air box?
|
on: December 06, 2005, 08:26:11 PM

NOT BEFORE IT WAS LEAKING! I CAN CRANK IT UP RIGHT NOW AND THE OIL WILL START TO LEAK INTO THE AIR BOX AND IT WONT STOP UNTIL I TURN THE BIKE OFF!! Ususally some oil will come into the airbox if you are riding WOT or off camber a lot or from bring overfilled. But, if oil is being pushed out while just idling the the point its going to starve the bike of oil. You probably have a blocked oil passage. If you are leary of the dealers in your area try a motorcycle repair shop. I find they generally do better and quicker work.

|

I don't think there is a better pipe made for the Foreman than the HMF Utility or Penland. Almost every Foreman I ride with uses them. And everyone loves the powergains. You will need a High-flow air filter (K&N or Uni-Filter) and a jet kit would be best, but you can buy OEM jets (probably a 135 w/ the HMF and filter) from the dealer for around $3-5 each. The 450s have adjustable needles stock.

You don't need to use a filter with every change if your just flushing it to get the water out. Just remember to put a filter in it when your done.
Correct. You only need too run the motor long enough to suspend the water in the oil. Then drain it. It should only need to run for 10 -20 seconds. Then drain. and repeat until clear. YOU may find it quicker if you remove the oil cooler or detatch the hoses. You can flush that w/ brake cleaner, because that stuff dries quck and leaves no residue. Once that is clear you may find the motor clears up quicker.

General / Tech Corner / Re: 650 BRUTEFORCE TIRES
|
on: November 22, 2005, 08:54:19 PM
|
I fits the older SRA BF650 then bigger tires are the only way to gain ground clearance in the mud. You have the power to turn 28s, but when you go that big you put strain on the drivesystem and ecspecially the belt. I would not be affraid to go up to 27s or 28s if they were not really aggressive like lites, bugs or 589s. But if you want a real mudtire Like Laws Claws or Zillas stay at 27 or 26 and you should not notice much power loss ans increased strain. You will need a lift to run 28s, not 100% on the 27s.

Just keep the old one in the truck for a spare, for when you burn up the new one.
Like was stated earlier the belt should have an intake and exhaust. They are probably not right next to each other. I beleive the exhaust comes out towards the rear of the bike on those.

If it has a diff locker it will be hard to turn under power. As everyone asked, Why do you feel you need 36 psi in your tires. I run 12 and they are stiff... You have to be careful w/ tha much pressure they will puncture easily.

If your never in water you should change it once a year. I do it with every oil change, if not every month or sooner. Like JW said water can get in pretty easy the the vents aren't run pretty high, and you ride a lot of water.

Improved throttle response as well. Yu can decrease your fuel w/ a jet kit if you desired. For instace, the "thinner"air at higher altitudes. It simply increases the carbs adjustability.

how many atvs will be in the run
expect 2,000 or more bikes. I'll be there with about 20 buddies, look for the loud Hondas towing the POPOs. As for the water... Thats what we look for!
