1  General / Where to Ride? / Current status of Big Scrub, Lake Delancy West, ONF in general? on: June 25, 2009, 05:13:31 PM
Hello everyone.  I used to be on these boards ALL the time a few years back.  I thought I was headed for the military after high school so I sold all the bikes.  Turns out, I did two years at a community college and I'm headed up to UCF in the fall.  Croom and ONF will be just 2 hours away, and it appears that Croom is still like always.  What's the status on ONF?  Can you still camp and ride out of Big Scrub and Lake Delancy?  Have they clamped down in the past few years?  I was thinking of getting an XR400 or something and doing some riding on the weekends.  Is there a point of owning an offroad vehicle in Orlando?  I know that Bithlo is right by UCF but I'm not interested in MX at the moment.

Wrong!

Here is what the TORS does.  Incase you are zooming through the trails at full throttle, and you back off the throttle but it is stuck open (muddy throttle, stuck slide, old cable), it will kill the spark.  In conclusion, it kills the spark if the throttle sticks open.

I work at North Perry Airport in Hollywood for a company that does aerial banners.  I construct the letter banners, set up banners in the field for the plane to pick, and clean up banners after the plane drops them.  I'm also a full time student seeking an AA in engineering at Broward Community College and I'm also taking night classes towards an A&P.

Wow, overwhelming support on this site.  Thanks for all the prayers and encouragement.  I'm up and about already, not even a week has gone by.  I have five small cuts held together with 3 staples and the big one that the kidney came out of that is held by 21 staples.  Not much pain at all anymore.

As far as the outlook, if you live in America, have a job/school, family, friends, and Jesus as your saviour, there's no way a kidney removal should be putting anyone's spirits down, and I mean that 100%.  There are about 50,000 people on the list waiting to receive a kidney because they've lost both, I'm doing great.  Thanks again everyone.

Just came back from the hospital, I was in since Thursday getting a kidney removed.  What a doosy, I always underestimate these things.  Just thought I'd type that up here.  I'm hoping to recover soon and get my fitness routine started back up.

Make sure there's oversize pistons for your year KX, because if they don't make them anymore, you're not going to be boreing anything.  And the harder you are on the bike, the better the plating will be for you.  If you're not going to be hard on the bike or riding it every single day and stuff, the sleeve will be alright.  I've never had a sleeve or ridden everyday, it's just stuff I read about on other forums, they tend to not advise getting a sleeve, but sometimes it is the way to go.

That's gotta be the worst thing for a parent when their kid is in trouble.
11  General / Open Discussion / Re: KX restoration on: May 30, 2007, 12:19:53 PM
The cylinder is just a regular plated cylinder like that on any two stroke of nowadays.  You send it, they strip the plating off of it, and replate it for you.  http://www.usnicom.com/ is one of the big guys for this service, it's like $200 to do a cylinder, I'm not sure what kind of price you've got to do the new sleeve.

I've done a lot of running in the past year or two, but this one ain't happening for a while.  I'll have to recover after getting a kidney removed in a few weeks, and I'm shooting for this run for the late winter, early spring, or later if I need more time.  But I'll probably make a little thread or something when I do finally do it.  I'm noting all the suggestions you guys have and just planning the route.

Go to the link above ,scroll all the way to the bottom for the map.

Most roads are not safe to run on anymore, I would rather run on levee if i were to do a long run loke that.
Try levee 67a at at the 20 mile bend on the tamiami trail where the flight 592 memorial is located . About a 1/4 mile north of the road is the gate to the levee , from there  its a approx. 23miles north east /straight shot to Holiday park at griffin and US 27.Have some one drop you off and pick you up some 5-6 hours later , pace yourself  ,take a cell phone and plenty of water , you'll be in the middle of nowwhere . Awesome scenery.
Good luck  Drink

That actually sounds like a pretty good alternative.  I'll look into that, but won't be able to report back till like a year from now.  I have to train back up to those lengths after a surgery I'm gonna have soon.  According to Google Earth, it's over 25 miles, basically a full Marathon.  Any idea what kind of wild animals are out there?  That's what would be my biggest concern, unless I did it in a group or something.  But that's the kind of run you can fondly look back on alright.

I have a goal I'd like to accomplish in the next year or two.  I think it'd be really cool to run from the beach, to the everglades, or the other way around.  It's about a 20 mile trek as the crow flies, and I intend to run in a straight line, as I feel that my current longest run of 13 miles was tough enough.  My question is what road or path would be best to do this with?  I'd like to have sidewalks most of the way, avoid intersections, expressways, detours, etc.  I was thinking doing it on Pines/Hollywood Blvd because it's straight with only a few problem areas that I saw.  Any suggestions of roads between Griffin Rd. as the north border and Miramar Parkway as the south border would be great.  Another goal of mine is to run from Port Everglades to Haulover Inlet on the sand, that's a 13 miler.  Running is like a hobby of mine I guess.
16  General / Open Discussion / Re: A Vehicle on: May 13, 2007, 01:39:01 AM
I'm gonna have to agree with the majority.  I bought a $7,000 Ford Ranger with a four cylinder, and it is small and wimpy, but it get's awesome gas mileage.  I put $3000 down, and am going to start paying off the other $3000.  It's easy to throw numbers around in your head and think everything is going to fall right into place, but when it comes to it, those payments start looking really big.  Just get a $5000 truck/car, and get something nice after college.  If you jump the gun here, you'll pay for it, literally, for the next bunch of years.

With no seatbelt he saved the taxpayers alot of money.
Preach it brotha! Yup!

I'll third that notion!

But really, he obviously didn't live.  Between how far he flew in the air and getting ran over by a car going 60+ mph.  I don't really like seeing people die like that though, but it happens.

That sure is a pain.  Don't know of any good ways to go about it except to fix it.

I had a good time just watching.  In a way I wish I wasn't leaving the sport just yet.  Watching those fast riders on their 450's is fun.
24  General / Tech Corner / Re: Question about my yz125 on: April 05, 2007, 09:13:35 PM
Did it do this before replacing the cylinder?  I'm wondering, because powervalves sometimes have an adjustment, that controls when the valve opens up for that topend hit.  On my RM250, there was this cover on the cylinder that had to be cranked clockwise one and half turns, then tightened down, inorder for the powervavle to be adjust correctly.  By how little or how much you turn it, it makes the hit come up higher or lower in the RPMs.  If you have not taken the same precautions with your YZ125 (assuming there is a similar adjustment or something), then that could be why you're not hitting the powerband.  The powervalve is just staying closed and nothing is happening.  I'm also not sure how the powervalve is actuated or connected on your bike, make sure of that.  On my bike, it was like a pushrod that opened and closed it, if it wasn't connected, the powervalve wouldn't have any way of operating.
25  General / Open Discussion / Re: need an answer fast will this 2001 Yamaha Warrior keep up with a kfx 400 on: April 05, 2007, 09:07:14 PM
does it really matter that much,Ihave a 300ex with an exhaust upgrade and my son on his banshee and my buddy on his 400ex have a hard time keepin up with me on the trails.unfortunately there aren't any places to really open up and really haul butt.and i have just as much fun on my 300 as the guys on the bigger more expensive quads thats whats important to me.then again i'm not a racer either.

I agree with you there for sure.  I've been riding a $1000 dirt bike, when at the track, it seems everybody has 06 and 07 Honda four strokes.  I was just talking about a drag race situation, not fun factor.
