General / Open Discussion / atv mx retirement.
|
on: July 10, 2008, 09:41:25 PM
|
as of today i am officially retired from racing my beloved yfz450. i will not buy another quad nor race again. i sold it today to a gentleman who drove 3hrs based on my verbal description of the quad and what i had done to it. i told him when he saw it he would buy it. sure enough. of all the atv's i have owned and ridden, my mx yfz was tops in all catergories except the uncomfortable seat. i feel like a part of my life is now missing. of all the races i entered, i started and finished all. my best was a 2nd place with an 18 rider gate start, and my worst was 11th at the GNC in GATORBACK with 40+ racers in my class. not to bad(i think)considering i had been only trail riding atv's for 2 yrs when i got the yfz august of 2003 and decided to mx. i will leave behind many good memories and a few bad ones but the best ones i have pictures of. one thing for sure, you get what you pay for, and i did. the YAMAHA YFZ450 WILL ALWAYS BE MY BIKE OF CHOICE.

seminole mx is $22 a day and you get to choose from two different style tracks. so $20 a day is a deal. saying it is pricy is just from lack of knowledge. pepsi air dania was $25 a night! and it was clay and was all dirtbikes.

i have those sprockets and the 'gold' chain. cheaper than most other brands and good quality. you can't go wrong. i also bought the TUSK tie-rod ends for my yfz450 3 years ago when i put the LT front end, the quality and fit was better than stock, at 1/4 the price of OEM!

my friend bought one for his kid. the extreme90 version in orange. which is the same just smaller displacement. he only rides it mx. has had it less than a year and the right side nerf broke off, had to change the ignition box, rejet the carb, put a clamp on the top of the steering stem bushing and lastly broke/cracked the frame where the top engine bolt goes. all these things happened at the track which is an hour drive each way. it is out of warranty so he is stuck with a piece of junk. lucky for him he is going to bring it to my house so i can reweld and gusset the entire frame--free. do not mean to ruin your party, please just check and recheck that bike BEFORE he rides on any track.

General / Open Discussion / Re: Alba, their pipes, and my situation...
|
on: July 07, 2007, 07:23:55 PM
|
i have a 2004 yfz450 that i purchased new in aug of 2003. i bought the ALBA exhaust kit because it was/is the best bang for the money. my quad has never seen trail riding. only mx. i have only had two issues with my pipe: the pipe that enters the canister cracked all around that flange that is rivited to the canister and the metal core inside the pipe you wrap the insulation around cracked in two. after rebuiling my engine with some 'work'. i had the pipe and inlet-flange rewelded(because i don't have the means of welding stainless). i re-rivited the flange to the canister, cut down the can and repacked the exhaust for a grand total of...$35 bucks. all this 3 years from the date of purchase. i know my experience is isolated but take it for what it's worth. by the way, the cut down canister did help the bottom-end some.

i know for a fact that rick case is in the process of building a superstore of aftermarket accessories for dirtbikes, atv's, motorcyles, etc. was told it will be the largest of it's kind around here, including mechanics.
and to go along with that super store will be super high prices, that place is a ripoff now. i wouldnt want to know just how much more of a rip off it would be after that new place. yes sirr! did you think for one minute they are doing it for the sport or repeat customers? HELL NO!!!! IT IS ALL ABOUT THE DEAD PRESIDENTS!!! wanna buy a quad?

$9k is not bad. probably will be the fastest 450 out there with that engine. i remember cannondale moto 440 for $13k out the door and some pro's racing them stock and finishing on the podium. all is possible.

|
on: March 24, 2007, 02:31:34 PM

if you are riding that 'hard'. start a maintenance routine with shorter intervals. that motor is oil/air cooled so the oil is pretty much done when it is time to change it. change your oil and filter, then change just the oil, then the oil and filter again. basicaly two oil changes in the 'normal' maintenace schedule but only one filter. white smoke can also be water in your oil, as you stated it is submerged sometimes. even though you change the oil after it has been under water all the water is not drained. that water will be burnt like steam(white smoke, not blue-white,burned-oil smelling smoke).

a whole lot of 'two-wheeled' things always show up. they have like 15 classes. track always has that deeeep,wooped,beaking-bumped, single rut on every turn and the 'dips(craters)' on the landing of all jumps. fun though.

that race line up is for the FTR race. wow, that means the quads would run 1st moto at around 1pm! and the next moto in the dark! the races seminole puts on has the quad classes mixed throughout the day, at least that is how it has been done the 6 times i have raced there.

i was planning on attending that event as a spectator. they are looking at the big picture, TV , which is not so bad i guess. thanks to WPSA we will still be able to see quad racing on tv.

you have the following basic fees:
1-race fee---------------$25 2-gate fee---------------$5-$10 3-transponder------------$100(buying it)-$120(renting it is $20 but you need a $100 refundable deposit) 4-numbers/number plates on your quad front and rear-----$(varies)
if you are less than 16 you need a parent/guardian present to sign waiver. this is all just basic pricing and varies. just remember you also need to add: gas(your vehicle),toll, food, quad gas. i do not know your skill level of riding. race day has a practice session in the morning, and 2 race motos. racing the a,b,c-class is 5 laps on the mx track. racing the beginner class is 4 laps of the mx track. and remember SAFETY. you want to be able to continue to race and ride so wear the proper race gear and have safety items on your quad(kill switch, nerf bars, bar pad,etc..) hope this helps you some.
