Title: John Natalie Jr rips up SandMountain today...
Post by: Ride1Rob on December 18, 2005, 07:31:48 PM
John Natalie was at SandMountain today peeps. Got to see him ride on the MX track and he even rode the Open Expert TT race for fun... Guy has never ridden on the TT track and the closest to him was half a lap behind. DUDE CAN RIDE HIS ARSE OFF. Anyway I got some pics, Dorian got some, Dreth's wife Torrie got some, and I'm more than sure many others as well. Here are some that I got...

1st Natalie handiing out some Arse whoopin on the TT track. He lapped about 3 guys and there was NoOne even close to him. That's him on the outside of the start...

he was almost as fast as me :R :R   psh, he was so fast i dont think i could have kept up with his dust trail ;)  i didnt want to bother him but he was very approachable! i talked to his girl friend who was equally as approachable.

Man, my bad Dreth... I deserve a kick in the rump for that one ;). Yeah, Natalie is a cool guy. Very approachable and that went for his girl too. He was very open and talked to anyone that wanted to talk. Great for a guy of his status. He gave out some pointers for a few peeps ;).

As far as the comment that Hondas are slow ::)  ... enough already. You guys get so wrapped up into what's the fastest  when it all boils down to "WHO CAN RIDE THE FASTEST". If you don't know how to ride then having the fastest bike doesn't mean jack. I could ride a 450 and that guy could be on a 250 blaster and hand me an arse whoopin'  :o  . Actually, he did say that he liked the Yamaha better than any other bike that was out now  ;)

Nicest guy in the world! Wish I had my quad running so I could have gotten beat by Natalie!  2nd place wouldnt have been to bad as long as I lost to him!
You noticed how I threw that 2nd place thing in there! ;)

Seriously though! He was super nice.  The only nicer person there today was Steve LE Hollar!  Just handing over the vet class like it was a Christmas gift!! ;D  J/K

Tim Farr last race and Natalie this race!?
To all that said sand mountain MX track wasnt very ridable!  Tell that to those guys!

JT... was that you in the red Nissan Truck? Thought it was but wasn't sure. I'm not used to seeing you out of uniform.

And yeah, the track is a nice track (IF YOUR A PRO RIDER ::)   ) To the average rider riding like those guys do is nowhere possible. If you try... you get hurt. Look at what happened to Natalies friend on that step up.

That track has to be one of my favorite tracks in the state. I dont think you have to be a Pro to ride there. The track has a lot to offer when your practicing MX.

the mx track is not that difficult i can hit every jump out there except the big step up i would say its one of the best tracks in the state and the most fun to ride.

Title: Re: John Natalie Jr rips up SandMountain today...

We're not speaking in terms of dirtbikes. Of course it was built for the dirtbike rider.

The track is fun and I have rode it. But I have seen some guys that can ride their arses off and almost crap out when they hit that step up. There have only been a few to hit that jump w/ no probs. Not saying that others can't, but if you hit that thing on a continuous basis your skill level is by no means AVERAGE.

Title: Re: John Natalie Jr rips up SandMountain today...
Post by: blindkaeta on December 19, 2005, 04:35:29 PM
The MX track is very rideable,  I made about four laps yesterday.  I think there is only a few jumps that are risky for quads.  I will go back and ride it again, I think it will make me a better rider.  I have to agree with nightbreed it is a great place to practice.  Just don't ride over your head. No pun intended.

Title: Re: John Natalie Jr rips up SandMountain today...
Post by: Flea_Jumper on December 19, 2005, 04:40:30 PM
I agree with Rob, I can ride and hit alot of the jumps on the track.  They are no harder than Hardrock if you dont try the big step up.  I have only seen two guys clear that thing safly, Farr, and Natilie.  I know what can happen if you come up a little short or a little to far I have wittnessed both.  I really believe that it should be shortened a bit, it would make it a little easier for the average guy to make the jump the track as a whole would be funner. ;)

ya but its cool to have that one huge jump that over time you might eventually hit i like the track the way it is now, cant wait for the first race its jan 8th just so everyone knows.

i have ridden 11 of the 15 tracks in florida and i also agree with Rob!! for the average rider that track is no fun and dangerous! how can something be fun if you spend all day flat landing :dunno.gif? the step up is dangerous and someone will die trying it before its all over :deal.gif. i hate to say that, but that is how i feel! even the first triple was giving Natalie a hard time, lap after lap he cased it and one time almost knocked him off the quad!

To the Sandmountain MX crew that is obviously reading this thread please take note that I LIKE YOUR TRACK! but its very difficult for quads!

PROOF: other than FARR and NATALIE how many quad riders can and have cleared every thing on the track???????????????????? Maybe 5 all together. so what is the ratio of quad riders that cant clear even half the jumps to those can clear everything?  im geussing 50 to 1!!  that speaks for itself!

If you have a genuine concern for your customers then i say poll all the quad riders with a survey and see what they say! im only trying to help your buisness grow and for that matter, STAY IN BUISNESS! Think about it like this...............someone gets paralized or dies at your track; what do you think their family is gonna do?

You can keep the track every bit as challenging as it is now and still make it more friendly for those less experienced!
1 example is something you have already done..........you filled in the big triple on the front straight away! its still hard to do but a lesser rider can inch his way out until he is capable of such a hard jump.
a 2nd example would be to make that first triple either shorter or just a double, or cut down the last hump so it doesnt buck you so bad.
a 3rd example would be to shave off about 2 feet of the landing on the big step up and round it off more so it as well dont buck you off as you have seen happen numerous times now!

i dont feel that these are unreasonable or difficult requests! i also feel that you would increase your number of return riders considerably. these are just suggestions and i mean them in a good way, like i said before, I LIKE THE TRACK! problem is, not many of my friends want to take that beating all day .

sorry if i offended anyone with my lenghty opinion but some of you that said that you like this track know as well as i do that it takes alot of motor, suspension, skill, and b@lls to ride this track.

I do believe Dreth hit the nail right on the head.. The track is fun and I too like to ride it but I do think it is a little dangerous for the average rider. just my .02 please don't take the wrong way.

Steve do you feel something,, I think it is pressure. The pressure will get you every time. It might be time for you to get your motor freshend up. Looks like it is getting a little week.

People need to understand if your not a expert rider don't try to clear those monster jumps. Dirt bike riders know this but for some reason quad rider are a little slow in the head, until a few trips to the hospital. I don't see a C-class dirt bike rider doing the step up but for some reason a C-class quad rider will try it. The funny thing is that they don't even do the smaller jumps smoothly and they trying to hit the triple or the step up, RETARDS. Those riders can't even conquer dade city!!!  :stoogies.gif Anyway keep the track the way it is, they will learn in time.  :Wacko.gif

The funny thing is that they don't even do the smaller jumps smoothly and they trying to hit the triple or the step up, RETARDS. ok! take out the STEP UP, take out the TRIPLE, take out the BIG SINGLE TO TABLE, take out the DRAGONS BACK, and take out that good size DOUBLE in the middle of the track..............................whats left for those who arent as skilled? NOT MUCH!

I have to agree with both points.  Your stupid c-class riders that don't have to work on monday can do stupid thigs like trying the triple and the step up.  I think that the track has some jumps on it that are only for pro or a-class riders but I also think you could give us smart c-riders an out such as waldo with mount waldo.

I personally think that what Dreth is trying to say is don't take out the big air just make it easier not to take the jump and still have the landing that doesn't beat you up.

When you fall off the ramp to the step up its like 5 ft straight down.  Make a small table top to the step up so you have a smoother landing for us retard c-class riders who can't conquer dade city.  LOL   Other that that just giving my .02

i agree with the dreth if i want to go to a track with smaller jumps ill go to sunshine or dade city the big jumps are the reason i make the drive out to sand mt the track is awsome lets keep it that way.

They are going to make another track next to that one. Maybe they'll make it a little more friendly then everyone will be happy ::) ::)

that is another option! their current pewee track is small and the big track is BIG so and intermediate track would be great!

its not like they dont have the space. :P

i like the track i can hit all the jumps but the step-up. that i will soon hit. ;) and i think they are all fine. i mean i think they should work on the faces and landings of the jumps.

maybee they can use some of our advice to make the 1st mx race alot better. ;D

All of you have great suggestions and I do print this for us to look at thank god there is such a forum for everyone to speak (thankyou ATVFlorida.com) . Here is my take and we are open for suggestions but if you are in a pinto and a Simi truck comes at you get out of the way. Don’t try to fly like the bikes try to beat the track at your skill level I promises you wont get thrown out for not making a jump (there is no minimum speed limit.) Please just be safe and have fun I will let my father-in-law see all of this and we will talk about it safety is important to us but this track was designed by racers (not all pros ether). I will tell you we will look at this and let you know, we have made changes to the track from input from all you from this site our site and at the track. As far as a new track it takes all the time we have to keep these four tracks ride able we all work 40+ hours a week and then work on the track if we will hit the lottery and then Sand Mountain will be perfect until then we will do our best thanks so much to all of you for all you have done for us.

Well... I've seen a couple former ProAm GNC riders that went out there the 1st day on the track and was clearing the stepup w/ no problem. All it took was one time and... He almost ended up at a hospital and Wayne and couple others can back me on that.

Dreth is by NO means a C Class jumper when it comes to airtime. One wrong landing and he was very lucky to have the injuries he had.

That young kid that was riding w/ Natalie Sunday... He by no means is a C-Class rider and almost broke his neck on this same jump. It's not riding over your head that is gonna get someone paralyzed or killed... it's the landing side of that jump. You may hit it perfect 20 times and then... :-X
Everyone should know to work their way into all MX tracks but that stepup is simply unsafe for quads. We'll see how many peeps get hurt trying to clear that thing when the FTR series gets here :-\

I like to catch big air but if the jumps are out of my capability as smart C rider I will pass on the 50' ers or the triples or the large step ups.  You can make the large jumps a little more rider friendly by adding a table top type landings on some of the risky jumps for your average riders, or making a more height style jump instead of a distance jumps.  I have herd good things and bad things about all tracks. One thing you wont do is please everyone. I will have to check this place out for myself before I will make any comments about SandMountain MX.

Also I would like to add... Thanks Sandmountain for giving us ATVers more places to ride legally.... ;)

FTR has looked at the track and we made the changes they asked us to. and we complied. They will check us out again to make sure we are ok before race time Saftey is their concern also.

Well I will say I love going to SM & riding the TT track but as an inexpierienced mx rider I will not ride on the mx track because I see no easy way to roll it or even jump small. It looks way to rough for me so I will stick to the more easy mx tracks until I get myself ready.

once again, 90% of your quad riders are in pintos and about half of your track is a Semi truck! or is it like at most other tracks where quads dont count because there isnt enough of them? if the tracks were made more useable then alot of the quad riders would'nt get dicouraged and never come back. look at hard rock for another example! the tower jump offers a low impact blow by, the step up after the gravity cavity also offers a blow by! so the track is still fun and yet YOU PROS can still fly. they also offer 3 other tracks for those that dont like all the doubles and big air.

Im not trying to beat Sandmountain up with this , i just feel that a few minor changes could be made to improve the safety and rideability of the track for more than just A level riders. I too say thanks to sandmountain for giving us a place to ride and for listening to our voices.

I agree with the fact it needs some changes.  I have personally been there many times and watched the  dirt  bikes and very few of those make the step up.  I remember thinking about the triple that used to be in the front and watching two guys making it the whole day while there were over 40 rider on the track.

Whats the point?

I could barley double that old jump and I would never attempt the step up the way it is.  Mount Waldo is a good 60' to 70' of air time and its not dangerous at all.  I watched Tim Farr himself have to grab a bunch of back brake in the air at just the right time to make the landing.  Later after speaking with him, he told me he had to hit it really hard to clear the crest.  Thats a NATIONAL PRO saying these things not us yahoos.

You guys have a great place for ATV's and its alot of fun, but it seems like every time I have been there, there are more atv's than dirt bikes.  Why not make the track more ATV freindly?  Make the jump faces a little cleaner and not so steep.  Make the landings a little longer and not so steep.

You are hearing it hear on the forum full of riders, make the changes and get more business.  If not please lease me out a piece of land and I will make a track just for atv's.   We really need one.

Thanks for the OPEN EAR and have a great Christmas guys, we'll see you on the 1st.

you cant please everone i would not like sand mt to turn into a track like all the other ones around its the only one of it kind around and the jumps you cant hit dont hit the only crazy one out there is the big step up and i dont hit it ive been eyeing it though lol. so we should stop thinking about redesigning the track and looking forward to the upoming race.

forgive me for this but YOUR OPINION WAS NOT ASKED FOR! YOU DONT RIDE A QUAD SO STAY OUT OF THIS! Dont be offended by that statement because it was not directed at you but at dirt bikes.

That's where your wrong Junior. You have less weight, less wheels to worry about, your suspension even stock travels ahella lot longer than ours, you tires dig in thus giving you better grip and more speed out of corners, etc... etc.... etc.... And what is so amazing is that this is an ATV majority site and the voices of ATV's aren't really being considered. I love SandMountain but I'd think that they'd have an open ear alil more when it comes to quad safety. I'll continue to ride there regardless of what they choose to do. I just don't want someone ending up confined to a wheelchair for the rest of their lives bc a few peeps feel like that stepup is okay :(

no you are wrong!! i weigh 200 pounds with 4 wheels and i hit every jump out there on my stock raptor 350 and the shocks are all stock too! speed hahaha my 350 is like a lawn mower with 7 inches of travel in the shocks! if you just ride within your skill level i am sure nobody will get hurt!

Am I wrong... You can't possibly sit there and type that it's easier to handle a quad in the air than on a bike. On a MX track period. You get beat up much more on a quad than on  a dirtbike. And as far as you hitting the jumps at SandMountain on your 350 Raptor I applaud you for it. But your skills are definitely not "Average" to be doing that. Your in a select group. Like I said... I have no reason to ride that track at all bc I don't wanna get hurt. I'm just trying bring up the safety issue for brothers like yourself. But.... I apologize for being worried about everyones safety. Leave the track like it is SM!

i am not trying say it is easier to handle a quad in the air than a dirtbike because that is impossible! i am saying the track is fine and all the jumps are MAKEABLE especially on a 450! if you cant handle the track maybe that should be a challange for you to up your skill level on a quad and on the track! i know thats why i like the track. when i started riding there i only hit one jump the first time there and after riding there time after time now i can hit them ALL! safety is an issue on all tracks! i have heard of people hurting themself getting off the track! if you dont want to get hurt and are scared dont hit the jump!

as far as the track. LEAVE IT THE SAME. if a stupid ''c'' rider wants to go out and hurt himself let him do it maybee it will teach him a lesson. the jumps are fine maybee i am just saying this because i ride at sunshine and if you can clear the jumps there these jumps are nothing.(except the step up) because at sunshine all the jumps are right out of corners and your always squirlly and there are ruts on the faces and it will shoot you every wich way.

this is simple! you either care about our opinions and make changes or you dont! this is not my fight, i was more thinking about those C class, stupid, lower class pinto riders that pay their hard earned money to ride at your track only to get hit by one of these not so considerate A class riders or that Semi truck that was earlier mentioned :banghead.gif

C riders need to chill, It does hurt to roll jumps. dreth I see hard rock being far more dangerous than SM. If you don't do the watertower jump its a lousy landing same as there cravity jump or their single jump onto a table so I don't understand how hard rock is ok for you, what your saying isn't making sense. Its bad enough bartow lame along with mulberry, lakeland, dadecity, brooksville etc. The only thing that I can see is maybe getting that little kicker out of the top of the step up and putting a little groove in the middle of the step up which would make it a triple step up and that will give the slower riders a groove to land in half way up. 8)

My son is the one that wrecked on the step-up Sunday.  We were training with John.  The nasty messed up arm was not broken????  He did break his neck though.  He can finally move his hand and fingers.  He made a couple of laps on Wed. and then needed to hit the ice packs.  I would like to thank the Sandmountain family for everything they did for us this week.  These are some of the nicest track owners I've ever met.  Donny Banks is another.  He gave us Echeconne for the weekend to practice.  The owners of Sandmountain were amazing.  They asked what needed to be changed or refined on the track.  They told us to take the dozer and change anything we wanted.  We will help make some changes when John gets back next week.  Thanks again to the whole Sandmountain family.  Thank Kyle for riding with my little ones.
