Title: 450r tuners in tampa area?
Post by: emaxxjeremy on December 02, 2005, 03:03:18 PM
i am having some carb issues with my 450r.  anyone locally that isnt a hack to check it out?
i am running a stock motor and exhaust, open airbox and uni filter, it seems i just cant to get it to run decent.  up to a 180 main and it still sputters and stalls, and the plug says its still lean

that just sounds huge.  most reccomend up to a 185 with an aftermarket exhaust.
i think my jet kit only goes to a 180

Try the 185 I think I was running 190 with that same set up, but I had a k&n instead. Looks like your going have to get some jets tomorrow huh!

You are way to big on the main jet for a stock exhaust system. Try dropping back to a 125 and go from there. Call me if you need.

but what is strange is it runs like its lean, and the plug looks like its lean.

You will find that on some of the new four strokes, the plug is not always the best gauge for tuning. I have found in some extreem cases, that an overly rich plug has washed the plug clean.

Let me know if we can be of any help.

i am running the dynojet needle on #3
i have an hrc end cap on the way.  its not currently installed, but it will be soon.  i would go with a slip on, but i have to watch my noise level

If you would like, give us a call at the shop. I can probably walk you through it over the phone.

Was it better with the 155  main jet if so keep going down. Try running it with the choke on if it runs better your to rich then.

ya it ran way better with the 155.  i could probably go a little smaller, but i think i will leave well enough alone for now.  i'll have to try it all over again when i stick the hrc end cap on anyway  :(
