Boost bottles do help a lot on large carburated motors. 36mm or larger. They store atomized air/fuel mixture and when you close the throttle the mixture is stored. When you reopen the throttle the stored mixture is lighter and will flow into the crankcase quickly. As the stored fuel is entering the crankcases the motor vaccum is now atomizing the new fuel/air mixture in the carburator and the new fuel/air charge follows the stored  boost bottle mixture. This will give you an increase in throttle response and bottom end power. The reason it works best on large carbs is that the engine vaccum is greatly reduced with larger carburator size.
