I have been comparing the size and weight and it seems the 350 is still a good bike and I am a rookie.

well it depends how old you are? and how big are you? The  Raptor is not that hard of a bike to learn on, so you might out grow the 350 and wish you have bought the 660 in the first place. So my tought is the 660 just my opinion.

I am 31. I think I can get a handle on the riding quick. I drove all types of vehs in the miltary but never bikes and quads. a few of my buddies ride just thinking about buying one and liked the way the 660 looked.

Here's my story.
I started searching for a quad  after not riding  for over ten yrs. I rode a used Raptor and thought to myself " I don't need this kind of power" so I bought a 350 Warrior. I loved it for about 6 months and then sold it and bought a Raptor. I loved the raptors speed for about 6 months so then I decided to put a cam, piston and port the heads  ;D.
The moral to the story is that you will always want more than what you have so just get one of the fastest quads out there and grow into it. TRUST ME ON THIS.

Just thought I would add this in, I bought a kfx400, I have
ridden the 660 raptor and a 350 warrior/raptor-huge
difference-I bought the Kaw-dependable suzuki built engine
and a happy medium to the 660-plenty of get up and go
and still hang for a few gears with the 660-350 eating a lot of
sand behind me.[smiley=BigSmile.gif]

Well i came to the realization that im stuck with my atv[smiley=banghead.gif], and its good for me, SAFE, now it handles good.  Nothing a stroker and a REALLY BIG shot of NOS won't help  ;) Hey mike, up for the challenge, FST 446 and boondockers?

I've got both a 350 and 660 and you can't go wrong with either one.  The 660 is pretty touchy and takes some getting used to, especially if you haven't ridden a sport quad much.  Once you get used to the power and wheelie tendancies it's a blast.  The 350 obviously doesn't have as much power but is plenty quick on trails and is a blast to toss around.  Even though I ride the 660 I still think the 350 is fun to play on and a nice ride.

Buy the 660. You won't regret it. It will also fit you better. Just don't go past 2nd gear till you get confident on it. (2nd is plenty  ;D)

when looking for atv's and it says "5-Speed Automatic Clutch w/ Reverse" does that mean fully auto?

Title: Re: Raptor 660 or Raptor 350
Post by: Da_Mtg_Man on April 01, 2005, 06:34:46 PM
That means it's an auto clutch but you have to shift with your foot still.

I think you mean "It aint fast without mixed gas"  ;D

IMO getting a 6k quad as a first quad is not a wise idea. First quads are that for a reason. While learning on it your bound to have an accident. Unless you can get a quad fairly cheap I would get something else. When you first get your drivers license you don't go out and get a v8 for your first car. Well normally you shouldn't.

Donnie- Is there a certain type of quad you like? Or I should ask what type of riding are you wanting to do? Bigger doesn't always mean better in quads. My 500 is crazy fast but in the trails my 250 walks away from it simply because it's smaller and more agile.   -Mark

Thanks for the advice old-school. I am looking at riding trails, speed is not a factor for me. my baby bro and two other guys i am going to be riding with have the raptors or getting one. I am looking strongly at the pairie 360 4x4 or the Bruin 350 Auto. 4x4. I am not one to follow the pack if you know what i mean. my bro and i are rookies but my other two buddies have been riding for a bit. they love speed!!! I don't need it. I love it also but it's not what i am all about at least while i am a "rookie" I am also looking for something big and stable I am 6-1 265 and my future riding buddies are smaller types. I am also the only married guy and my wife has final say. :) we both agree on all of the utility bikes but she does not feel a sports bike is a good 1st bike for me. I am open to both. just ready to get my feet wet. any advice? thanks....

My dad had a Raptor 660. You could handle it, it actually seemed a lot slower than what I was expecting. Feels majorly pluged up. With new exhaust I bet that it could breath some fire. Also handling made me weary but hey I don't got no technique on quads.
