Title: Re: pros and cons of chroming your frame Post by: Mrs.Nightbreed on April 11, 2005, 08:50:11 AM Not sure about details, but call American Motorsports or a car drag shop. I know NHRA recently changed the rules about chrome plating car chassis because of something to do with the integrity of the metal after the process. I am not sure if that would relate to safety concerning a quad frame though.
Also, I don't think chrome will flex well with the frame. It will probly flake and crack. Title: Re: pros and cons of chroming your frame Post by: SkyHighT100 on April 11, 2005, 08:52:03 AM Why not just powedercoat it using a chrome color? www.tigerdrylac.com has TONS of colors

Title: Re: pros and cons of chroming your frame Post by: LIV2RIDE on April 11, 2005, 08:25:58 PM It will destroy the integrity of your frame. Alot of the major companies do not offer swigarms in chrome because it weakens the metal
Title: Re: pros and cons of chroming your frame Post by: quads_only on April 11, 2005, 08:28:03 PM everyone offers chrome a-arms, so what gives .
Title: Re: pros and cons of chroming your frame Post by: Inyourdraft2000 on April 11, 2005, 08:35:42 PM Chrome (dipped) depending on the quality of paint you purchase wont change the integrity of your frame however it will add more weight. It can flex a little and probably the only places it would crack if at all would be around the weld joints.
I have dipped a few Go cart frames and bent the frame around a tree once and the tubing bent and the crome was still fully in tact. I also have a huge dent in my truck chrome bumber and its not cracked. On a 4 wheeler frame the only benefit in my opinion is looks if thats what you want..Dont go cheap on the paint and it should be fine..... Title: Re: pros and cons of chroming your frame Post by: quads_only on April 13, 2005, 04:23:05 PM Talked to a chrome shop. and a couple more people and most think its not a good idea. that it does weaken the frame a slight amount. and I dont want to weaken anything on my bike, since Im jumping my ramp pretty much every weekend. Thanks for the input guys and gals [smiley=ThumbsUp.gif].
