Title: Laws in Floirda for riding ATV
Post by: hat on April 17, 2005, 06:46:21 PM
Hi, I am new here and hope I can find my answer.  I live on dirt roads in Florida and was wondering what the laws are for riding 4-Wheelers?  Is it legal, do they need to be registered, tagged, etc., also live next to a wildlife management and want to know if they can be ridden there.  I have a 15 year old son, is he legal to ride?  Do you have to have your driver's license with you when riding?  Thanks for any help and info.

Hat, If the dirt roads your son is riding on are private roads, it's legal as long as he wears a helmet. Check with your local law enforcement agency to determine whether the roads are private or public roadways. Florida State Statute 316.2074(5) prohibits operating an ATV on public roadways, therefore, tags are not available for them. As for riding in the management area, you'll have to check with FWC. I always recommend carrying a D/L or some form of ID in case your stopped.
