The south side of the levee is still closed. It's NOT Holeyland, it's Everglades WMA. And, with all of the rain we're going to get this week, there'll be no riding at Holeyland, either.

Rain-permitting, I'll take a ride out there on Thursday night or Friday and post.

Just got back from Holeyland and, as expected, it's as deep as it gets. It'll need 2-4 more weeks of no rain for my liking. It's amazing how much the vegatation has grown in. Even the mud pit at the first bridge has almost completely grown back in.  But, it will be fun to tear it up in a few more weeks.

Did anyone go this weekend?  I'm just wondering what FWC is going to say to us when were out there riding and not hunting.  Maybe they won't give us any problems since they have had it closed to us for half the year.

HOLEY LAND AND ROTENBERGER OPEN FOR MUZZLELOADER SEASON

September 30, 2005

Contacts: Dani Moschella, (561) 625-5122
Willie Puz, (772) 215-9459

Conditions have improved in Holey Land and Rotenberger Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs), and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) reopened these areas as of 12 a.m. Sept. 28. These areas are open for hunting during muzzleloader season Oct 1-16.

The Everglades and Francis S. Taylor WMA remains closed by executive order from Kenneth Haddad, FWC executive director. The order contains special regulations for this WMA, which are necessary due to inordinately high water levels associated with recent storms that jeopardize wildlife, particularly deer. The special regulations prohibit:

taking game other than fish and alligators

the use of vehicles, airboats or ATVs, and all other public access, except by special access permit and in Conservation Area 2 from the L-35B levee north to the east-west airboat trail

This order does not apply to:

persons permitted to participate in statewide alligator egg collections or alligator hunts

persons operating boats (other than airboats) within established canal systems and within one mile of adjacent marshes lying in the Everglades and Francis S. Taylor WMA. Area users can fish in these canals and marshes.

Persons participating in the statewide alligator egg collections or alligator hunts must stay at least 100 yards from any tree island and the L-5 South and L-4 South levees when operating a vessel or airboat to minimize disturbance to upland wildlife.

The FWC encourages hunters to report any violations or emergencies by calling the toll-free Wildlife Alert number at 1-888-404-3922.

i know we all want to ride but if you read the post from fwc, it states atv airboats etc are PROHIBITED unless you are hunting.

The special order only states that for the Everglades WMA because it's still closed.  It does not say that for Holeylands.  MuddyGurl when you called FWC did you ask them if ATV's were allowed in Holeylands if your not hunting?
