Title: Oil Weight Post by: Shotgun on September 21, 2005, 10:20:54 PM I am running Yamalube 4, 20 w 40 in my 2004 Eiger. The oil seems really thin when the engine is hot, almost like water. Should I go to a heavier weight oil? Thanks

Title: Re: Oil Weight Post by: Shotgun on September 26, 2005, 12:14:02 AM The oil is not Synthetic, I change it every 300 miles or so.
Title: Re: Oil Weight Post by: johnnygun on September 26, 2005, 10:06:11 AM thays not too many miles / hours. definitely check w/ manufacturer and get their recomendation. how often and what to use.
synthetic oil is very lite, the flow rate is one of the reasons it's so good. new / old, hot / cold, it flows about the same. in florida with the heat, i would think a heavier oil. oh well, that's my 2cents. good luck. ;) Title: Re: Oil Weight Post by: Truegrit on September 26, 2005, 10:42:09 AM I use Honda 10W-40 oil. Thtas what is recomended for my bike. I have tried Honda 20W-50 once. It took noticably longer to warm up the bike than w/ the lighter weight. That was in 80-85 degree weather.
Title: Re: Oil Weight Post by: Shotgun on September 27, 2005, 06:40:44 PM What oil is thicker, 20w40, or 10w40?
Title: Re: Oil Weight Post by: Nocturnal on September 28, 2005, 06:09:06 AM What oil is thicker, 20w40, or 10w40? 20W40 is thicker when the engine is cold but, there both the same once it heats up. Title: Re: Oil Weight Post by: Shotgun on September 28, 2005, 06:21:14 PM Thanks, I thought it was just the opposite.

Title: Re: Oil Weight Post by: TRX350_On_The_Rack on September 29, 2005, 11:22:22 AM The Honda manual for my Rancher says:
RECOMMENDED ENGINE OIL: Pro Honda GN4 or HP4 (without molybdenum additives) 4-stroke oil or equivalent motor oil API service classification: SG or higher JASO T 903 standard: MA Viscosity: SAE 10W-40 or SAE 20W-50 I've always used the Pro Honda GN4, but thinking of using regular oil if it meets the specs. Also I change the oil every 20 hours instead of the 100 hours recommended by Honda. Title: Re: Oil Weight Post by: xtremeraptor on September 29, 2005, 10:02:51 PM I RUN 20 50 IN MY RAPPY AND IT COMES OUT GOLDEN BROWN AND NICE AND THICK EVERY TIME I CHANGE IT
