Title: Aviation Gas
Post by: Numkut on September 20, 2005, 04:18:20 PM
I read on another forum that it is ok to run Aviation gas, few other guys said it was bad. I would like to start using it if you can, I live right near a local airport. Anyone know if it is safe or not to use in dirtbikes?

I think you can only fill your tank with like 20% of it or something along that line.

I think thats what my friends dad was saying. He said that the fuel has ether [e-thir] (or however you spell it) in it and he added it mixed 80% gas 20% avaition fuel. I think thats how he said it. Someone else has to know more on here.

ether is what I put a hole in my go-peds piston with. Well Starting fluid is basically ether.

It's high octane stuff(110+). Unless you are using a high compression dome it would actually rob power on a stock compression motor.  For peak performance you want to use the lowest octane possible that doesn't get you detonation. Lower the octane rating the easier is to ignite.  -Mark

My bike has a minimum of 95 octane and I can't find anything over 93 so I figured if I could mix in like 25-30% AV gas it would be a little better. I don't need to run it as I have been running 93 forever I was just curious.

avgas has a super low gravity.. which will cause a lean situation.. not recommended.. there is a web site that talks about it, ill see if i can dig it up..

LMFAO....fuel questions again...avaiation gas is designed to run at a constant rate of about 3000 rpm's...it also has a lower lead content...aviation fuel is not designed for atv's...you can buy aviation fuel a fraction of the cost of 93 octane most of the time...

I was just told on a dirtbike site that it wasn't safe for four-strokes because of TO MUCH lead. Wow I don't know who to beleive I got so many different responses.

Is the motor stock?? If it is,93 octane is just fine.Any higher octane will not yield any significant power increase.
