Title: Jasper/Alapaha RIver Bed??
Post by: Hollywood on September 19, 2005, 11:42:10 AM
Heard from a little birdie that it was drying up fast and is pretty much ride able. Can anyone out that way verify before I make the trip for nothing??? ;)

Cool, I'm so ready to ride there again. There was little puddles of water all in it last year. It was nice for all the quads that was running a little hot.

How about for Veteran's Day weekend, November 11th?  It'll be a long weekend for some of us and we can ride more than one day.  I want to go on this ride.

A while back a bunch of us camped on the river bed 1 mile upstream, it was nice. Digit saw a deer once. Best place to ride, but stay off the land on the sides of the river, all private property. There's plenty of river to ride.

Opening weekend of General Gun season in most of Fla. probably not the best choice of weekends. Especially since most of the property adjoining the river bed belongs to hunt clubs. Plus I'll be Hunting in Ocala most of that week. ;)

I need to get repairs done at my hunt camp soon, so I will be near there sometime in the next week or so. I plan on spending a few days in Ga. then swing over to Jasper and ride as far as I can. I will give a report when I get back. Let's all keep our fingers crossed.

Anyone else? I know there were a couple folks on the site that lived over there and rode by it all the time.  I think I am going to make a scout trip next weekend and check it out for myself.

OK, I understand.

I just might go take a look before that, but don't want to be the only one there.
The place can be tricky to say the least. I want to get some before and after shots, will be interesting to see the changes of the bottom.

Any update on the river ? I don't want to drive the extra miles if I don't have to.
I'll be going by tomorrow it looks like, unless someone chimes in tonight.

It's about 40 miles from my camp to the river, and that's one way. Even if I check it out on the way, it's an extra 70 miles total. Not that far if I need to, but if I don't...............

Yea, I read that others are thinking about trying to ride there soon, maybe next weekend. I was trying to get a report out for everyone, unless someone else went by in the last two days.

Would be nice to take my son there for his birthday, we'll see.

If I don't hear anything before I leave, I'll go 75, catch it on the way, just 40 miles or so longer than going 19. If I can I'll ride up and down as far as I can and give a report, plus a few pics. I just hope all the pics don't come back all full of water.  :'(

It's on then! To heck with the track I am getting new tires on the trailer and heading to Jasper Saturday! Can't afford the 6+ hour ride to Seminole anyway. I'll put up the post in the group rides section.

Just got back in town from hunt camp, to much work.

The Alapaha is great again. Just be carefull of the water holes, I found one, way to deep and drowned my quad good. All OK now.
Here's some pics.

I-75 bridge heading that way, saw a jeep and a quad going by, so if they made it that far, should be good to go.

A group of us rode Alapaha today and there are plenty of dry areas to ride in on either side of the overpass We did encounter some deep water sections that were unpassable but there was enough dry areas to ride all day without geting bored

There is a couple hotels closer to 75 like the comfort inn and 2 other hole in the walls. you want to actually stay in the river bed when you ride there are some trails up there that are on private property

Went to Alapaha yesterday - had lots of fun.  I also saw where there were some places that had some deep water.

Watched a Yamaha UTE get stuck clear up to the handlebars.  Someone had a Honda Rincon - pulled that Yammie out.

Overall a fun ride.  Will post pics later.

How do you get there and where do you park? Is it a safe area to bring the wife and kids to ride?

Thank you, Teej

Yes, it is pretty safe for the wife and kids.

Went throught Jasper and down a little dirt road to the riverbed.  Parked right next to the bridge.

All you folks that live in/around Lake City - we need to get together for a ride.  Even if we just go trail riding in Osceola.  I need to meet some riding buddies! :)

Here's somthing i posted on the jasper ride.
Oh if you have friends that are looking for land to buy and turn into
a atv riding place.I have some atv friends that live down street from me and they are from  tampa and st pete area. They are off 144ter street and you should see dirt sand riding atv trails on their land there. It's right around on the other side from 137th drive in mcalpin. They ride there on holidays weekends. One  my friend is named dreky and he used to ride a 350 yamaha warrror.Tell him rw send to you.He should know who it is. :) They own about 8acers of track there.
And their grandfather bought the land long time ago and the grandfather move out to jasper to 30acer lot.

thanks,
amhighlander, 8)

I wish more people get chance make their own  backyard atv parks
In the lake city and live oak areas.I know they a selling some chunks of land
right in my backyard 300feet away from me.It's on hughes rd off 164st heading  west to almost cr349 thats in mcalpin area.Well it's  on right hand side traveling west on 164st.But I have seen redneck hunters going in there on sats and sundays. It must be deer season out there.

I hope alot atv people protest buy out the alapaha river bed.
Well i understand they are not enough places  to ride in state of florida.Thats
pretty dang sad.I wish somebody start their own  atv radio talk show on about atvs.I hope freedom fights so hard and keep the atvs free to ride their own trails again. :)

thanks,
amhighlander  8)

Here's map i draw out and they are  some nice
right of ways  on us129 south of live oak over by near
dairy farms and i have seen yellow z400 one day riding there
and i saw a cop and didn't do nothing. And they are some nice
right of ways east of tayorville and I have seen old man
on atvs riding on honda foremans one day
and i have seen one morning on westside of tayorville
kids on atvs and people with walking horses on right of ways.
I know in my area you can ride on right of ways
here and on areas on 164st and 137th drive
and county don't even mowing them for past 10years so far.

A very big right of way is south of high springs and
going to newberry thats one largest right of ways
i have seen so far.

Click on map to make it larger.
