POLARIS ATVs OVERHEATING,

CREATING RISK OF SERIOUS INJURIES

Polaris Industries of Medina, Minn., is recalling about 14,882 all-terrain vehicles that were assembled with electronic control modules that may fail and overheat. If this were to occur, excessive heat could cause a fire, possibly resulting in serious injury or death.

The company has received 26 complaints of overheating, but no injuries have been reported.

Affected are the Polaris 2004.5 Sportsman 500, the 2005 Sportsman 400, 500, 600 and 700 and the 2005 Scrambler 500. They were sold at Polaris dealers nationwide from August through February for $5,999 to $7,299. (On the Sportsman, the model and serial number are located on the right front side of the front radiator covering. On the Scrambler, the model and serial number is located on top of the front cab cover. The VIN is permanently stamped into the left frame rail behind the left front wheel of all Polaris ATVs.)

Polaris will provide free repairs. Customers should call 800-765-2747, toll-free, or visit www.polarisindustries.com. That website, plus that of the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission (www.cpsc.gov), has a chart comparing the last six digits of the vehicle identification number (VIN) on the ATVs to the serial numbers of the vehicles recalled.
