Title: I think I'm done with school. Post by: Njoutlaw88 on September 02, 2005, 12:26:31 PM Hey,
I think I'm going to be out of school now. I just talked to my teacher and he says I have enough credits and that if I pass my fcat and take the ged I WILL GET A REGULAR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMIA. I'm nervous about going to MCC but I think its a good idea to go to college even if its for two years. I wondering what to major in. I'm just happy so I figure I would share. Title: Re: I think I'm done with school. Post by: cain73 on September 02, 2005, 12:54:04 PM Now days a college education is almost a necessity. 2 year degrees are great if you do research and get one that is in demand. My cousin has a 2 year degree for respritory therapist and makes 26 /hour which is pretty good money. doesn't matter if you have diploma or GED as long as you do well in college. they look at degree and GPA from there not the high school. With this said, congrats on you situation. Now spend some time thinking about your future to plan a course that will get you where you want to be later in life. And for crying out loud change that ridiculous coloring font ! ;)
Title: Re: I think I'm done with school. Post by: Njoutlaw88 on September 02, 2005, 01:14:28 PM Thanks for the responces. I'm not sure what I want to do in school. I want to own my own businees and not work for a coperation enless its a sales job.
Title: Re: I think I'm done with school. Post by: yunt2ride on September 02, 2005, 01:34:34 PM Don't get out of school early. Before I took my GED, I went and talked to my Guidance Consellor at school and asked him if I took the GED would it be the same as a high school diploma. He said yes, so I took his advise and now I wish that I had of stayed in school. First off, you miss so much your last year of school. Like, Graduation ceremonies, Prom night, grad night and I did not even get my class ring because of it. Now beings that I did not graduate with my class, I feel that I should not attend class reunions either, but thats my opinion. But I also took my GED in the 10th grade. My diploma also does not say what school I graduated from because I did not graduate from a school. It just says that I have made the equivalancy of a high school diploma. Now, I was going to go in the service with a friend and because he had a regular high school diploma, they were going to give him a bonus to enroll. I asked them what would I get and they said nothing because I got out early. I told them that my guidance consellor said it was the same and they said that it would get me in but it would not get me the same bonus. So I did not join. Sounds like your almost finished and you can never go back and do it over. So please think about these things that may not seem so important at this time but 20 years from now they just may be.
Title: Re: I think I'm done with school. Post by: enniehall on September 02, 2005, 02:06:51 PM High school requirements have changed so much you only need 18 credits o graduate and only 22 credits if your college bound. Trust me on this I took the easy way out I had 26 credits my senior year and decided to leave because I could plus I wanted to work full time so I could get a killer 4x4 truck (99 ford ranger 4x4 what was i thinking). I wish now I stayed and finished even if I didn't have to. If you are going to leave early make sure you have a plan because I didn't and its been almost 2 yrs and I'm still just working I didn't continue my education afterwards and now I'm just not motivated. Think about it first man it's your life but you won't have another chance to go back and fix this if you decide you made the wrong choice.

Id@ Title: Re: I think I'm done with school. Post by: cain73 on September 02, 2005, 07:17:53 PM I agree that a GED is not the same as a diploma, but if you DO go to college they look at the college degree not the high school education. The only reason they even look at a college GPA is for certain societies and for graduate school if you want to apply for a Masters degree. So if you aren't going for a college education, definitely stay and get the diploma. If you are definitely going to college then the GED will suffice and even allow you to start college sooner. With diploma or GED you must take an enterance exam to go to college. depending on how well you do on that test of basic knowledge determines what classes you qualify for NOT the diploma or GED. I recommend talking to a college guidance counselor just to verify that for yourself.

Id@ True sir, but Its not a ged. they make you take that to see if you can graduate early. (its a state law) The dipilomia you get doesnt say anything about a ged. Title: Re: I think I'm done with school. Post by: yunt2ride on September 04, 2005, 06:23:28 PM Mine does not say anything about a GED either. It just says that I have completed the equivalancy of a high school diploma I do beleive. I know that there is no where on it that it says GED.

Title: Re: I think I'm done with school. Post by: Pat on September 05, 2005, 11:51:09 AM My suggestion is this...go to a Junior College...see how things go as to whether or not you enjoy it and/or doing well enough. Then make the decision as to whether or not to head to a University. Something important to remember. Most small businesses fail or make little money. It is always nice to have something to fall back on. With a college education you can market yourself. With only a GED, your options are VERY limited.

Title: Re: I think I'm done with school. Post by: cain73 on September 05, 2005, 10:22:06 PM I get it it's not a GED. I don't know why everyone keeps on that anyway. Even if you have a GED it doesn't matter when you have a degree from a community college OR a university. No company asks fro high school transcripts after you hand them a degree from a college or university. If you are sure you will get EITHER of those more advanced educational accomplishments, don't worry about it. GED vs diploma doesn't matter then any way. Do you think a law firm asks for high school transcripts after you hand them a Law degree ? I can see it now - at the interview - "Mr Smith I see you graduated with honors from Harvard Law School, but we can't offer you a job until we get a copy of your high school transcripts" :P Doesn't happen. Doesn't matter what field you are in or what company you work for. They look at the highest level of education and use that gpa and or set of transcripts to aid in their decision. Everyone keeps stressing "it is something you will live with for the rest of your life" like you're considering dropping out. Graduating early has pros and cons that you alone must weigh and make a decision. However, GED vs diploma (I understand you would not be getting a GED) is not something that will factor in to your life unless you do not graduate from a college or university.
Title: Re: I think I'm done with school. Post by: Pat on September 06, 2005, 09:29:28 AM My apology...now I understand you are not getting a GED. Cain is correct, if you head to a Junior College or Universtiy, it will not matter what you did in HS. There are hundreds of thousands of people out there that are making a lot of money with successful careers that did not go to college...usually its their own business. However, a good analogy would be an athlete who pays no attention to academics his entire life thinking that he'll play basketball until he's 35, enters the NBA right from HS, make millions and then retire. There is always that chance that he'll have a career ending injury and then he's stuck having nothing to fall back on. I think there is a consensus that if you can go to a college of some type, do it. I graduated from the University of Florida with a History degree, taught middle school for 8 yrs and now own my own business. Its very stressful but it is nice to know that I have that college degree to always fall back on in case things do not work out.
