Title: Oppose efforts to restrict access to public lands Post by: Chuck_Norris on September 01, 2005, 03:47:49 PM Write to House Resources Committee Members right NOW!

Three bills that would designate over 700,000 acres of public lands as wilderness are likely to be considered by the House Committee on Resources shortly after Congress returns from recess on September 2. Congress established the wilderness designation for federal lands in the Wilderness Act of 1964. No form of mechanized transport is allowed in designated wilderness areas. Please take this opportunity to have your voice heard. Even if your recreation area is not impacted it is important to let Resource Committee members know that wilderness designations are to be taken seriously and any land designated that does not meet the criteria set forth in the Wilderness Act of 1964 is unacceptable. Oppose efforts to restrict access to public lands. Send a letter to the following decision maker(s): House Committee on Resources Below is the sample letter: Subject: Oppose efforts to restrict access to public lands Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here], Please oppose efforts to further restrict access to federal lands for recreational off-highway vehicle, snowmobile, mountain bike and other uses. In particular, your Committee will soon consider H.R. 233, H.R. 851 and H.R. 2514. Please vote no on these bills as drafted as they would designate thousands of acres of public land as wilderness areas, despite much of the land not meeting the criteria set forth in the 1964 Wilderness Act. If these bills become law, over 700,000 acres of public land will be designated as wilderness, and existing OHV trails, mountain bike trails, campgrounds, backcountry access and world-class snowmobile areas will be shut down. Please do not deny responsible Americans the opportunity to recreate on our public lands. Thank you for your consideration. Vote no on H.R. 233, H.R. 851 and H.R. 2514 Title: Re: Oppose efforts to restrict access to public lands Post by: stump66 on September 01, 2005, 10:43:19 PM Done ;)

Don't let them shut down any. it does, if someone were to give you a petition telling you that the petition was to reopen a hunting area, most of us would sign it. Now, what if that hunting area was some remote part of a wilderness area that raised humans as an ultimate "big game"? granted that's an extreme situation, and probably would NEVER happen, but I like to know what exactly I'm putting my name behind so that when someone asks me what I signed a petition for, or what I sent a letter for,,,,I can honestly and truthfully answer. now, back to your regularly scheduled postings.
