Title: I need to settle an argument
Post by: DittoBabyGirl on May 10, 2005, 10:34:44 AM
I know this isn't an ATV post...but its a Florida post so here goes:
How many of you have your alarm keypads in your gararge and not your front door? My husband insists that people in Florida don't come in thru their front doors...that they ALL come in thru their gararges. I personally prefer to come in thru the front door and therefore want the keypad by the front door.Am I being unrealistic?

compromise. put 1 in the garage and one next to the front door. you can have two entry points in an alarm.

does it matter where the keypad goes ?

the alarm should go off upon entry. Or forced entry.

well you have to program the panel to the entry point(s). the position of the keypad doesnt matter but which entry point you use does.

I go throuh the front door!
Too many toys in the garage.
Dune buggy, 2 bikes.  A spare vw engine...a spare dodge engine (going soon...anyone want a rebuildable 318 (ran when it came out)).
Easier to go through the front.
Tim

Really depends on if you park your cars in the garage.  We have a double deabolt on the front, so the garage is easier, and we still have cars and toys in the garage too.  A second keypad is a lot less money and heartache than a divorce  ;D LOL  j/k, compromise is usually a good thing in a case like this.

The need for one in the gararge is when you open the gararge down and trip the delay entry mode, you can turn it off from the gararge. but you also need one inside the house when you go to bed. Two is best, I have 3, one in the bedroom so I know what zone when off.

Ours are by the garage door and one in the bedroom.
Your husband is right. Everybody uses the garage in Florida. We've been in our House almost 8 yrs and I just got a front door key last year when I  put in a new front door. ;D

I gotta agree there are alot of toys in my Garage also but that is where I prefere to come in. keeps front the entry way clean and free of dirty foot tracks.

I use the front door. My garage is just to work in or store my toys. It's surprising to know how many of you don't use the front door. Does that mean that you only use your garage opener and don't lick the door from your garage to your house? Or doyou just use the key there instead of onthe front door? The reason I ask is that a friend of mine insisted that he has driven around avrious neighborhoods and used his garage remote to open many other garage doors just for laughs. I doubted this until he insisted that I accompany him on such a ride. There are many garage door openers use roaming codes to combat this, but there are alot of garages out there where people have older door openers or lower quality units without the roaming code feature. If you are only using the garage door to come in please do yourself a favor and make sure that you lock the door from the garage to the house. It's a shame that we have to go to great lengths to make sure our stuff stays ours, but in todays society it is necessary.

Ok...so lots of you use your gararge (and I must admit I like the idea of not tracking all the dirt thru the front door)

BUT

I agree with Cain...anyone with a universal remote can open your gararge door...unless you have the power turned off or a bar in the track. Thats how we keep ours locked now

SO...how would you get in the gararge if you can't open it from the outside?

You'd have to go thru the front door...which is why I want one by the front door. I'm not about to try to run into the gararge and shut the alarm off in time lol

So I guess I win!

;D

I have lived in my house for two years now and the only time I used the front door is when I came home one day and my wife was letting her mother in the front. My wife parks her truck in the garage so she never comes in the front door. But now she wants a new front door with glass installed. Go figure!

i think it is safer to have th gagrage door on a sensor that goes of instantly, especially when   there are toys in it, if you dis arm the alarm when you go in through the gagrage that means theres a delay from when it opens to when it goes off to give you time to turn it off. that delay also enables a thief to grab something and go with it before the alarm sounds and draws attention...........FRONT DOOR
