Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: Kawa3 on August 22, 2005, 09:27:04 PM DW(DirtWheel) did a test on that in the Sept issue. Looks good to me ;D Also I think your wouldnt have to worry about gas and oil leaks along with mud inside the sleeping area like the other enclosed ones.
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: 05greengriz on August 22, 2005, 09:30:59 PM Yeah I know, once you take the quads off the back a screen enclosure is included to close the end off.
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: qt314nfla on August 22, 2005, 09:33:57 PM I've seen them, I like them. I don't like the price. I think they are a little over priced for what they are. You could get an RV and tow your toys for alot less.
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: PureLogic on August 22, 2005, 09:49:37 PM I saw one of those for sale at the July MS&G event. It looked pretty neat. Only one thing that is detrimental to the canvas of those things is the dirt. The canvas doesn’t last very long on those things. Also after a while it starts to smell like armpits. The canvas just starts to rot away causing the odor. That is made more for heavily shaded cool areas like around…. Well I don’t know where but surely no place around here. Just my .02 cents. If you going to spend the money go for something allot more sturdier than canvas.
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: WOODY_450r on August 22, 2005, 10:02:19 PM that is just what i need but the only bad thing is that i would be gone all weekend riding wich is fun but no time for school
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: RaptorTom on August 22, 2005, 10:05:08 PM I looked at those and they are nice but not a lot of room inside it was very cramped.
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: Prairie Master on August 22, 2005, 11:05:15 PM We looked at one it was over priced we found this one.. it was a used 2004 for 3 grand more than the pop up

Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: Prairie Master on August 23, 2005, 12:51:28 PM $22,000 before taxes and the 5th wheel hitch found a sticker in it original price was 48,000
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: backinsaddle on August 23, 2005, 01:42:23 PM great looking unit...and that seems reasonably priced. I just picked up an RV Trader, and I was suprised, not as expensive as I thought. Thanks for the info
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: GrizzlyBear on August 23, 2005, 02:24:22 PM There is one on display in Ocala, if you are antwhere near here.
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: big-daddy on August 23, 2005, 02:29:42 PM on 60 just before lake wales, there a dealer
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: team_quad_green on August 23, 2005, 05:27:01 PM big daddy I seent the dealer your talking about, my buddy just bought a good size toyhauler after the upgrades it was in the 30s and it was a off brand.
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: Prairie Master on August 24, 2005, 08:49:25 AM Toyhaulers are great but its hard to find any campgrounds in the area that let you ride to the trails except for delancey or big scrub. Planning a trip up to coal creek this fall
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: Bigscrb15 on August 24, 2005, 09:29:39 AM I have always wanted a toy hauler, but broncoman is right. I think it would kinda suck to haul the quads to elite and have to unhook everything and haul that giant thing to rodman just to ride.
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: Prairie Master on August 24, 2005, 10:03:42 AM we spend most of our time at delancey but usually every 4th time we go to elite to please the wife. father in law brings the car trailer with him when we go to elite.
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: backinsaddle on August 24, 2005, 10:29:41 AM I picked up an RV Trader yesterday. I seen one of those Fleetwood Scorpion popup/trailers in the $12,000 range. I think the retail price is in the $18's? Still seems like a lot to me for what you get.
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: Prairie Master on August 24, 2005, 04:20:27 PM 12,000......
thats before the screened in porch, microwave, A/C unit, also it doesn't have a generator Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: NPRVinson on August 24, 2005, 05:06:35 PM My buddy has a 21' TH, it's nice but you do need a second tow vehicle most places.
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: Exmx54 on August 24, 2005, 10:03:31 PM I think they're dumping money. A regular enclosed box trailer (say a 20 foot) you can find used for around 5-6k. Dump a couple thousand into customizing the interior, and you will have a much more spacious, more secure way of going away for the weekend.
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: susieblazer on August 24, 2005, 10:36:41 PM Yes thats what we did , in 95 picked up the Pace American from Fitzgerald , Ga , brought it home and insulated it, kitchen area, tv, microwave, cabinets, fold down beds, pottie...............A/c and heat............ah yes our home away from home............ [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: GATORSPORT on August 25, 2005, 11:24:11 AM I sell the Scorpion and the advantages to a "Standard" toy hauler are: Compact, low profile while towing. Allows for a smaller tow vehicle. Price, new MSRP is 13,500. Compare that to a new TH at $30-50K. Outside storage, keeps the fuel and oil outside the living area so your not smelling it when sleeping.
Also, the material for the "tent" sections are made out of Sunbrella, this is the same as for boat bimini's and building awnings. Won't rot away like pop ups of old. I have used it and it is great for weekend getaways. Wouldn't be good for traveling the country. Just my .02 Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: GATORSPORT on August 25, 2005, 11:43:56 AM Almost forgot, it comes standard with potty, shower, sink, stove, refrigerator, microwave, hot water heater and heater. Yes, a/c and some other items are add-ons but that is alot for 13,500. Also, the rear deck is 8x12 large enough for 4 sport ATV's, and when unloaded becomes your patio. Then the front deck is 7x3 for coolers, generator, fuel cans and what not.
For 2006 they have come out with 2 additional models, both smaller than the original, so less money and even smaller tow vehicle. Don't take me wrong, I just love this trailer. I am modifying one with a third axle and will be able to haul my buggy with me all in one package. Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: Prairie Master on August 25, 2005, 09:21:13 PM So why are the dealers trying to get 17,500 for them with no room for neg..........
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: GATORSPORT on August 29, 2005, 12:42:23 PM Pends on the dealer: MSRP $13,500 + $2,000 accessories (fully loaded) + dealer prep ($300 - 500) + freight ($1,000) = $17,000
We are trying to keep the price right by waving the prep and freight charges. This was meant to be an "affordable" toy hauler. I have used it many times and think it is perfect for the weekend getaway. Load up, head out, unload, ride and hang out. The "patio" keeps you high and dry, living area enough for sleep and potty (how much time do you really want to be inside) the rest of the time out riding. Have also been told since it has bathroom, kitchen and sleeping quarter it qualifies as second home therefore tax deductable interest (if finacing). Hope this helps Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: GATORSPORT on August 29, 2005, 01:05:10 PM FYI, new 2006 Scorpion:
MSRP $14,147 but now includes lp gas tank covers, spare tire cover, new 1 foot larger roadside bed, open front storage deck with tie downs, oven, inside sitting area, and grey color. Options A/C, canopy, add-a-room, generator, deluxe spare tire, RVQ outside grill, and loading ramps. Anyone with questions feel free to pm me. I know Kawgirl has a 16 foot trailer and when she put her 2 quads a/c and camping equipment her 1500 Z-71 would continually shift up and down at just 60 mph. My Chevrolet 1500 Z-71 did the same thing until the tranny let go on the way to MS&G. Once again doing 60 MPH shifting up and down until I found a sweet speed to get it to stop shifting up and down. Swamprat Same thing bought himself a trailer. Trailer dealer told him that his F150 would tow the trailer just fine. He had a tow package and all of the bells and whistles. Same thing again 60 mph the tranny kept shifting up and down. Once you put everything in a trailer like this you really need a vehicle to safely tow it. I am not dogging your Tacoma but I speak from experience and every body else who has a toy hauler will say the same thing. If you are going to tow a big trailer. ( I think your 7x14 is pretty big) you need to step up the tow vehicle. Please don’t fall into the miss conception that dealers try to give there customers that there ½ tons are an acceptable tow vehicle for any tandem axle enclosed trailer because they are really not. A completely gutted shell trailer MAYBE but with cargo in it NO WAY!!! Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: PureLogic on October 21, 2005, 08:00:14 PM BY the way Kawgirl has a single rear wheel F-350 super duty 4DR 4X4 diesel. I have a F-350 dually 4DR 4X4 Diesel. And Swamprat upgraded his truck this week to a F-250 Ext cab 4X4 Diesel. I went to upgrade my truck literally the day after my truck shelled the transmission. The money I spent fixing the transmission and tow bill would have been a really nice down payment on a truck. I don’t know how long it took Kawgirl but I think Shortcut said by the 2nd or 3rd trip they upgraded. And Swamprat did 3 trips and he upgraded after his 3rd trip. And when I say trips probably nothing mare than 2 hours away .
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: 02_Super_Tacoma on October 21, 2005, 08:01:00 PM very, very nice PureLogic, I just put cabinets and a countertop in mine today I'll post pics of the work in progress soon.
Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: 02_Super_Tacoma on October 21, 2005, 08:14:08 PM My tacoma is has a manual trans, a Supercharger (and some other goodies under the hood) so i'm not worried. I towed a 5X10 with 4000 lbs of cargo and a R6 street bike in the bed from Colorado to Florida and had no trouble what so ever. I'm not gonna turn the 7x14 into a full camper (no ac,sink, pottie,or shower) so I should be ok :)

They will be reving a little high but that wont hurt anything. The trannys in 1/2 ton trucks wont live long towing in overdrive.

Title: Re: toy hauler Post by: Muddbuggy on October 26, 2005, 05:30:10 PM Chillin's right the trannys wont last very long driving them in overdrive like that. I pull my 20ft enclosed with an 01 suburban in third gear on the interstate just for that reason. I dont have 2500$ just lying around for a new tranny, but I did have to upgrade as well cuz the wife was not happy with all the miles on her suburban so I bought 02 crew cab chevy 2500 4X4
