Title: Woman in Afghanistan Post by: kawGIRL on August 15, 2005, 10:28:48 AM Barbara Walters of 20/20 did a story on gender roles in Kabul, Afghanistan,
several years before the Afghan conflict. She noted that the women customarily walked 5 paces behind their husbands. She recently returned to Kabul and observed that women still walk behind their husbands. From Ms. Walters vantage point, despite overthrow of the oppressive Taliban regime, the women now seem to walk even further back behind their husbands and are happy to maintain the old custom. Ms Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked "Why do you now seem happy with the old custom that you once tried so desperately to change"? The women looked Ms. Walters straight in the eyes and without hesitation, and said "Land mines." :P Title: Re: Woman in Afghanistan Post by: qt314nfla on August 15, 2005, 10:46:19 AM That was nice! Very much appreciated. It was like a good movie. I was upset, then I was sad, then I laughed. Thanks for the Monday morning pick me up. Nice seeing you again this weekend. I'll be over near your camp soon. I'll look forward to riding w/ you finally! Sorry I didn't get to chat much. I was busy playing in the mud.
