Title: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: Njoutlaw88 on May 23, 2005, 11:35:08 AM I can't believe this. I passed the fcat reading by 15 points but I didnt pass the math. I missed out by 6 points. This is so crazy I am really agervated about this. I might have to retake it in the summer. I think this fcat test is crazy. I get nervous before the test and tend not to do so well.
Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: SkyHighT100 on May 23, 2005, 11:48:30 AM I know what you mean, I hated FCAT because that seemed to be all that the teachers taught us (so we would do well so that school would get money). A lot of people get nervous when it comes to tests (try eating peppermints while you're taking them, thats what friends of mine did). Dont be so hard on yourself though. A lot of people have to retake those dumb tests, lol.. at least you have the opprotunity to do that this summer.
Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: Anoriginal on May 23, 2005, 02:50:14 PM Try taking a study course from Blackstone or Princeton Review. They are known to help a great deal.
Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: Exmx54 on May 23, 2005, 02:58:20 PM I'm sooo happy my school doesn't do Fcat's. They are the dumbest tests I've ever heard of.
Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: Bigscrb15 on May 23, 2005, 03:07:43 PM what sucks about the fcat is that i passed it with all above averages and I was in the top 1/2% of the state, but they still held me back because I never turned in my homework even though i made 90% and above on EVERY test in school. kinda sounds like double standards, doesnt it? But yea man, dont worry about not passin it, they mean nothing in real life once your out of school.

Little something called college, you need good fcats and grades to get in to college, you need to attend a good college to get a good job, so yeah, it desides your life. Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: Yamaha72 on May 23, 2005, 03:30:15 PM I feel for you man, some of my friends didn't pass but I passed all of them this year when it counts in 10th grade. If you pass it in 10th you never have to take that crappy test again.
Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: SkyHighT100 on May 23, 2005, 03:31:29 PM Coming from a college student... FCATs really do NOT matter. The only reason why we take FCATs are so that the state knows which schools are doing their jobs and teaching what they are supposed to be. (thats why all you learn about all year is what's on the FCAT, lol, there's your DS). Anyway, when it comes to college, as long as you take a CPT, SAT, or ACT then you'll have no problems getting it (and if it's community college a GPA isnt a main concern, only for finanical aid). I wish my GPA in high school was high because I get $0 (yes I said $0) in finanical aid money... so I pay for all of my school and books on my own, its almost impossible.
Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: raptorboy954 on May 23, 2005, 03:48:09 PM i didnt pass the writing part of FCAT :-/. i havnt taken the math so im gonna take the pointers people posted. maybe il pass both of em

Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: Bigscrb15 on May 23, 2005, 07:04:59 PM im not gonna brag or anything, but im a highschool dropout and im sure most people that have met me will tell you I do well enough for myself.

I work in the flooring industry, and yes it is our fmaily business, but I had to dropout so it would stay in business and I have brought it to the top in our area in just 3 years. Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: ucfneed2ride on May 24, 2005, 07:15:06 AM When applying to colleges it is your SAT and your GPA that count. Although if you failed the FCAT you may want to take some pre-SAT courses. The SAT aint no joke...
They are right though, you dont need to go to college to get a high paying job. I will be graduating UCF at the end of the summer and probably will not be making as much as some of my friends that didnt go to college. It all depends on what you want to do. Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: MuddFreak77 on May 24, 2005, 07:30:24 AM Hey UCF,
I agree with you on that statement, I have a 4 year degree and my sister has a high school education. She makes twice as much as I do. I sat there and was like WTF thats not fair. But I'm happy for her either way, it just sucks for those of us with student loans. Carl Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: ucfneed2ride on May 24, 2005, 07:54:55 AM I wouldnt trade my college experience for anything though. I have learned so much that i never really appreciated until now that I am about to graduate. Also, had insane amounts of fun along the way.
Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: Ida_Mann on May 24, 2005, 08:00:12 AM Quote Little something called college, you need good fcats and grades to get in to college, you need to attend a good college to get a good job, so yeah, it desides your life. you really believe that? I feel for ya then. I had a friend of mine that I knew from middle school all the way through high school that graduated with honors. he's an assistant manager at a blockbuster in orlando now, and has been for about 5 years. Last I spoke with him(about a year ago) he was making what we pay our scanners here who all they do is use a computer and scanner to scan old processed checks then put then into boxes. It's the lowest-paid job in this company and he works like a dog to get paid like that. If your goal is to get into a good college, by all means, put yer nose in the books and study to get the good grades, but if your goal does not include a college degree,,,don't beat yerself up over high school. After high school life is VERY different. I still speak to about 5 people from my high school, and there were 1400 kids at that school when I left. Some industries require a college education, a lot do not but it helps. make your own decision. Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: Ida_Mann on May 24, 2005, 08:18:45 AM I don't even remember the FCATs because there was not such a big deal put on them.

The ACT and SAT test is similar to the GRE, GMAT, MPRE, LSAT, and so on... you know, the tests you have to take and perform very well on if you wish to go beyond a four year degree. If you are not a college grad (or even worse, a high school grad) and you are making loads of money, good for you. I and everyone else am/is sincerely happy for you. Why? Because you are an extreme minority. No high school diploma? You're very very limited. You better have a family business to turn to and/or some great luck. No college? That's fine. You can do okay without it. But, on the average, without a college education you will make far less over your life. As far as the FCAT not relating to real life, think again. Your ability to at least pass the FCAT test is a direct reflection on several things: 1. Your ability to learn, retain and apply. 2. Your school's ability to teach you in a proper manner. 3. Your ability to handle pressure, decision making, problem solving and logic. ... just to name a few. $20.00 per hour is excellent for a high school grad and almost unheard of for a drop out. So if you're getting at least that amount as a drop out, I am impressed and sincerely happy for you. However, $20.00 per hour is only $41,600.00 per year. While this isn't too bad, consider that before taxes this is only $3,467.00 +/- per month gross. In real dollars you're taking home around $2,700.00 depending on your tax set up. Now, figure into that a mortgage, a car payment, medical insurance, proeprty taxes, food, fuel, misc. payments (ie - those credit cards) and there isn't much left over. With kids, there is even less. Granted, everyone is different. I have great friends of mine who did not go to college that do extremely well. These are smart people with plenty of drive, good business sense and a definite ability to plan, save and spend wisely. So, please don't take this like I'm knocking anyone who chooses to drop out or not attend college. All I'm saying is that as someone who went to college for over twelve years, it was a wonderful experience that I hope everyone (who wants to) gets the chance to enjoy. Take the FCAT seriously. Try to do your best. If you fail, study where needed and do it again. You owe it to yourself to try your hardest. School and the tests like the FCAT are not dumb. Treat them like you would a hill that you haven't been able to climb or those .00's of a second you want to scrape off on the sand drag. It will pay off for you in the long run. I promise. Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: MxRacingChick21 on May 24, 2005, 12:28:21 PM Quote and you dont need to go to college to get a good jobnright out of high school i can make 21 to 30 $ an hour Hows that? Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: raptor426 on May 24, 2005, 08:50:45 PM I passed the math and reading part of FCAT, but I failed the writing part that kids in 10th grade have to take. I cant believe I fail that test. I am one of the best writers in my English class, but I completely froze on the test, it sucked sooooooooo much. Now i have to retake it again next year. DAM
Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: devildog55 on May 24, 2005, 11:37:49 PM yeah that fcat was stupid as heck. i passed them no problem. but still managed to fail like every year. my school had this stupid thing if you missed more then 0 days you failed that semester. man i could miss 9 days in a week. ;)but antways i knew kids that were on honor roll and could pass that stupid test, so they didnt get to graduate on time. and all that student loan stuff, im not trying to recuit anyonr but while in the Marines the pay for 100% of your schooling. then when you get you you get $50,000 for the G.I. bill for only paying in 1000 bucks
Title: Re: I didn't pass the fcat math Post by: jwscroll on May 25, 2005, 04:08:11 AM College can be important if that's what matters to you. And that's what it really comes down to, the choices you make in life will either take you where you want to go or (if you made bad choices) they will take you to the bottom.
I guess I am one of those rare cases. I'm a highschool dropout that joined the Navy, saw the world (mostly the far east), and did not get a GED until after I got out. I now own my landscaping company and am doing fairly well. The FCAT tests didn't exsist when I was in school and if they had I probably would have failed them on purpose just to trip my school up. What would happen if all the parents decided not to let their child take the test, have a schoolwide sickout everytime the test is scheduled, that would be cute.
