Post by: z400chic on July 31, 2005, 01:13:35 PM
Next weekend we are going to try and get at least 15 people out to the Dade City Flat track and talk about starting a series. We have about 8-10 people that already race on the track. If you are interested in flat trackin come on out we sign up around 6:30pm and start racing around 7:00pm. We have a pee-wees class and a quad C class as of right now. Come on out next weekend and we will get things set up to start a series.

Last Time we raced at dade city the track was slick but Doug Steven and Darryl went practice night and the track was getting right. We werent able to race last weekend b/c of the rain but we will most likely ride out there on Thursday night for practice.

Looks like most of the Flat Trackers down here won't come back till the track put's a little effort in to the track safety. Did they ever get lights on the back stretch? One guy out on the track counting lap's with his flag in the sand and whatching the 4 corners dont work. We spend a lot of money to come all the way up their to race at least they could put a flager at both ends of the track. Plus how do you see the back stretch when your back is facing the anouncer booth? He would be better off in a chair on the berm.  ;)    I remember David Sr. laying on the ground in turn 1 on the first lap and there where only 4 Quads on the track that race. Well 3 quads went bye the start finish (1st lap)and still no Caution.   ???

But hey, My self #18, #5, and #9 should be able to make it if the weather looks OK. Remember the 3 hr drive  ;D
You guy's and gal's will see when Hendry opens back up soon.  ;)

So on that note tell them on thursday practice to have some flagers out on the track come sat. Tell them to put some effort into things up their and the might get some FT racers to show up on a regular bassis. 8)

The track has a light in the 1st and 3rd turns. We will talk to Colin Thursday night about having two flaggers. We do agree there needs to be more safety on the track but they are improving. They arent going to do upgrades to the track if no one comes out to support the flat track.  Colin is very willing to work with everyone on getting a series started. We will talk about how everyone would like to have it set up and run on Saturday Aug. 6th if we have enough to show up. Right now classes will be set up accordingly as to who shows up. This will be a four race series to see how things go. We have also talked about  each rider kickin in $5 every race for a pay out at the end of the series. Nothing is set in stone these are just ideas we  have talked about and Colin has mentioned. So come on out and lets see what we can get started for the flat track.

Quad C/ beginners- has four riders
Quad B- has 5 from Clermont, 4 from Tampa, Naples?, UnderWare racing ? plus some locals that are talking about coming out

I need some ideas on race dates, rules, and general input on the series so we can run it by Colin Thurs at practice

Hey guys Thursday night practice is a great time to get a feel for the flat track.  Practice runs 7 to 10 and it costs 10 bucks.  Right now there are 5 or 6 that will be there for sure.

Late tonight I will post the track conditions and more imput from the track.

Directions: The track is located right next to the Pasco County Fair Grounds on highway 52 in Dade City. Or check map quest.

The track was in great shape.  We ran for an hour or better, then we got about an hour of rain.  Even after the rain it was still alright just a little slick on top.

We talked with Colin and the track owner and the series starts Sat Aug 6.  It will run every Sat in Aug rain or shine, so bring your stock tires.  There will be two flagers on the track.  The classes will be set up Sat and limited to 4 or 5 bikes in Quad C and Quad B.  By keeping the classes small we should get more riding time and make it alittle safer for everyone.  All the details on restarts, laps, cautions, heat races, main events and series rules will be set up by the racers at 5pm Sat.

racing in the rain? on a CLAY round track? anyone remember what happed last time we did that? remember what it was like walking across the clay track in hazelhurst? someone is going to slip in the crap and smack the wall.. A light sprinkle i cound race in but No way would i race in the clay "mud" like last time.. thats way to dangerous..after all are we "flat track" racing or holding mud bogs?

Hey Chris you wanted to mud race at Samsula two months ago.  Megan ran about 20 laps in the rain and the track was ok with the right tires.  We are not going to race in a down pour, we will wait till it stops and work the track so we can race.  BRING YOUR STOCK TIRES.

doug,
get your own screen name.. its confusing...

that was a straight line race for 200ft, on dirt... with paddle tires..
were talking about racing in circles on clay.. as we all know clay is slick as hell when its wet. not only that but none of our bike run airboxes, just the filter right off the carbs..I cant think of one flat track in this country that would race on a rained out track....

you are comparing apples and oranges...

I dont think you guys were there the time we tried that, ask gary..
yall can do what you want, i think i can speak for dave as well, if its wet enough where you have to change all 4 tires, we will pass.

Thanks to everyone who showed up tonight.  That was a blast and a great race. The track still needs a little work, but nothing is perfect the first time.  It will only get better and they'll get the classes set up how they should be.  We had 21 racers show up, that's not bad at all.  Once again thanks to all who showed up to race, especialy those who drove a long way(Matt,Rickand Gasgasman).

This is DOUG, sorry for any confusion I'll get my own name soon.
