smoke- Been trying to get consistent most of all but my best time to date is a 9.2 at 66mph. Been battling lots of issues as of late though...Dyna box blew on me last week so I am on the stock CDI again and head gasket finally let all the way loose last night and been playing with different gearing/tire combos to get it right and well met's just say I have found out what doesn't work...lol needless to say I haven't gotten better than the 9.2 yet but if I can get a CDI that works all the time and get my compression back I think 8.8's are there somewhere.  ;) Ohh Yea and the new M/T Slicks will help too

One of the faster cars

9.2's not bad....440ex i assume is what your running....i think i might take a trip to lakeland and run down their track a few times...what does that track require you to wear?  i see your not wearing leathers.

Actually just a 416. It's really a blast and going on T&T night gives me the chance to run as many times as I want. I think I made about 20 passes last night.

Missed your ? about the gear. All they require is a kill switch, over the ankle boots, pants, helmet, gloves and Leather or some type of riding jacket.....I just wear a regular leather jacket and they're cool with it.

.586 on a pro tree .400 perfect light?  i always leave on yellow and hang on....that is cools, i am going to call down to lakeland and find out what they require...i would love to see what it does in 1.8th mile...do you ride the clutch to 60 ft. marker or do you just spin the tires?

Title: Re: 1/8th asphalt drags
Post by: svtbolt04 on July 29, 2005, 11:40:38 PM
I dont mean to call BS on you for the times, but 64mph is a bit slow for 9.2.. I ran an 8.8 at 80mph in my Lightning. I also ran a 10.23 at 61mph on my z400.. at 9.2 I would expect atleast 72mph

Sorry, but untill I see a slip, I have to call BS on that.

Title: Re: 1/8th asphalt drags
Post by: Hollywood on July 29, 2005, 11:42:35 PM
Nah not a pro tree a .500 tree I'm no where near that good on a pro tree. lol Really depends on what tires I am running I tried out some dirt track tires last week and it hooked great right off the line just grab and go..no slipping the clutch and very little tire spin but they are kinda heavy and I lost a lot on the big end. The other times running my MX tires I just spin a little coming off the line. I just really need something that is the best of both lightweight and good traction so I'm getting the M/T's

Title: Re: 1/8th asphalt drags
Post by: Hollywood on July 29, 2005, 11:46:59 PM
Stand by slip coming up! COuldn't find my 9.2 but here's a 9.3 @ 66 quads aren't like cars simply because of traction every one I've ever seen run traps much lower speeds for the E/T compared to cars due to the lack of tire spin.

10-4 hollywood...those are good times for a 416 ex...i am impressed...dang it, i want to go to the track now and lay some times down....we want slips...

Title: Re: 1/8th asphalt drags
Post by: svtbolt04 on July 29, 2005, 11:56:58 PM
I ran a 450r the first time ever at a track. He was stock, ran a 9.1 at 77mph.

So, it takes 13mph (on a quad) to gain a 10th of a second?

Title: Re: 1/8th asphalt drags
Post by: Smoknbanshee on July 30, 2005, 12:01:19 AM
svt, if your going to compare 1/8th mile time you need to compare 60 ft time....if you ran a 9.1 @ 77 you had a slow 60ft. time, hollywood might be running a 1.5 60 ft time to your 1.8 60 ft. time and that makes a world of difference....1/8th mile speed depends on 60ft time and hp to pull the mph after 60ft.....i am waiting on the time slip, to see the 60ft. time, because that is probably the big difference....

Title: Re: 1/8th asphalt drags
Post by: Hollywood on July 30, 2005, 12:05:05 AM
Well I can't get the slips to show up readable off my scanner seems mainly because they are on yellow paper. But for comparison here are some times off some of the slips I do have. You do seem partially right though maybe that 9.2 was closer to 68mph since the 9.3 slip I have is 9.356@66.78mph but I also have a 9.673@66.28, 10.551@64.67mph and a 9.7@65.56 so there isn't much consistancy to the speed/time thing in my experiance

Title: Re: 1/8th asphalt drags
Post by: svtbolt04 on July 30, 2005, 12:11:10 AM
Whatever, its cool though. I like going to the track just as much as the next guy. Good numbers though. How much HP do you think you are putting out? Also, did it try to wheelie out of the hole? Mine would wheelie everytime out of the hole and I would be hitting 2.00 flat 0-60ft times.

Good numbers, I just get jealous I guess when a ATV is as close as my 30k truck..Compared to somthing you have maybe put in 10grand.

Also, we all know that driving in a straight line gets old after a while. Right?

Post by: Hollywood on July 30, 2005, 12:12:43 AM
I wish my 60's were that good mabe with some traction they will be my best is on the 9.3 run with a 1.923  but I pretty musc run 2.03-2.09 alomost consistantly. Sorry bud but a 9.1@77mph on a stock 450r  :o I can just about believe the 9.1 but 77mph I've never seen a stock 450 that will even do 77mph. There are more than a few that run out here and best I've seen out of one is the guy I am racing in the pic above and that was a 9.487@67.15mph

Title: Re: 1/8th asphalt drags
Post by: Hollywood on July 30, 2005, 12:16:50 AM
It's all good bro. Only thign I've seen in a quad put up the upper 70's mph are the beefed up 2 strokes...Banshee's R's etc.  Not saying your BSing or anything just speaking from what I've seen but we all also know every track is different too.

As far as HP I have not a clue maybe 45 or so. It doesn't wheely bad at all with MX tires it just spins plus I strap the front end flat with cargo straps. Now with the dirt track tires it was another story they hooked so hard even with me sitting on the tank like I am I still have to short shift to keep it from coming over. Once I get into 3rd it's all gravy though

Title: Re: 1/8th asphalt drags
Post by: Smoknbanshee on July 30, 2005, 12:21:46 AM
I can see where this is going....i want to get in on this....i have confidence my banshee is putting out 75+hp, and would run in the 7's....170 lb rider on it.

Title: Re: 1/8th asphalt drags
Post by: Hollywood on July 30, 2005, 12:24:56 AM
WHat does it run in 330ft of sand? That would give a rough idea since 330ft is half an 1/8th

If I can get a new CDI and head gasket fixed between now and then I am going to try a little fuel trick next week and see if what I hear is true. If so I should break that 8 sec barrier

Title: Re: 1/8th asphalt drags
Post by: Smoknbanshee on July 30, 2005, 12:26:33 AM
did not get a timed run in up there, rained out, but i would suspect 4.8's possible 4.6's.....

Title: Re: 1/8th asphalt drags
Post by: Hollywood on July 30, 2005, 12:32:40 AM
A bike I ran has a 4.778 330ft time with a 7.355@92.96  so I'd say if you got the top end then it should be possible. It should be able to be done on a quad at a little less mph. That's smokn' fast though. I've been trying to get the $$ together to build a motor to run about like that maybe one day it will get finished. lol

Title: Re: 1/8th asphalt drags
Post by: Smoknbanshee on July 30, 2005, 12:37:14 AM
well i want to go to asphalt and find out what it will run soon...i will probably be in hazelhurst the 3rd saturday of august and run up there....dyno the 4th saturday and then try to run it on the street....if it produces those kind of #'s my bike will be for sale...fresh motor just built 2 months ago....

Well when you do let us know what it does. They run here every Tuesday and Thursday and sometimes bracket racing on Friday with a $300+ payout depending on entries. Quads run with the street bikes.

I go every Thursday night. It's not as packed as Tuesday so you get a lot more runs in. I won't be going this Thursday since I got to put in a new head gasket plus I am working nights this week but I should be back ready to go the following Thursday. T&T is from 6-9pm

anybody got a clue if Bithlo will allow this? or should I bother trying to run a 1/4 mile track?

I imagine I'd hit the top speed halfway or so down the track.

Well, I was in 6th gear about 3/4 of the gear from being wound out...14/38  at 660' so i would say that you would def have to change your gear to run 1/4 mile. The 400ex is a 5 speed so you would probley have somthing like a 14/34 or a 15/34 if the 15 will fit on the engine of the 400ex. Plus shorten your chain to make it fit...  I cant remember what I had on my 400ex

I dont object to running brackets, lets set something up and have a great turn out. test and tune days would be better due the amount of runs you can get in.
