Title: 5A Newbie Questions
Post by: threefortyduster on January 10, 2015, 10:51:17 PM
So I just discovered that this place exists and I don't mind driving over there from Pinellas, but have some questions.

What is the type of crowd that is drawn?
Is it actually legal?
What is the typical terrain?
Anywhere nearby to stay? Driving 3+ hours then driving home after riding sucks.

Thanks in advance!

I would like to ride over there also. I believe little blue pill rides there a lot. Maybe he will chime in.

What is the type of crowd that is drawn? This can be hit or miss. Everyone is usually pretty friendly but there can be some wild people from time to time. I've never had any issues though.

Is it actually legal? Yes

What is the typical terrain? Pretty wet as of late from what I have heard. Depends on the rain fall. I've seen it swamped and I have seen it dry. The ground it all sand. I have not ridden here in over a year though.

Anywhere nearby to stay? Not really. Probably the best option would be one of the hotels off the Colonial Drive(SR50) exit of I95. About 15 miles south. Not sure I would want to leave my equipment out though.

My first car was a 72 duster.

You had your first car 10 years before I was born.

Well I didn't say it was new when I bought it.

5A is a nice place to ride and people are friendly for the most part. My wife and I used to ride there every Saturday but have only rode there about once a month lately cause we like the Ocala Nat Forrest better. My wife does not care for mud and water.

It had been very wet out there this year but it should be getting dryer now. Even if the main trails do dry up, you can always find water and mud if that's what you like. If you stay on the main tails, they are very wide and no blind turns, but there are plenty of narrower trails out there if that's what you like. 5A has it all including ridges. I always liked the ridges but with all of the rain this year, some places have washed out making them harder to travel.

5A parking lot is located at Exit 231 on I-95 on the west side. Stuckeys is on the east side and there is a small campground behind Stuckeys. I don't know anything about it but I think a lot of Snowbirds stay in there. I have seen people with campers camp out right there in the 5A parking lot. There are motels at Highway 50 and also one exit north at Garden Street, Highway 406.

I hope this helps you out. Larry

No, it's NOT legal to ride at 5A. If you choose to ride there it IS TRESPASSING. From the looks of things "read the link below", fences will be going up and law enforcement will be handing out trespassing citations.
