Title: Shindler road in Jacksonville
Post by: Crewsing on December 18, 2012, 01:27:35 PM
Has anyone been riding here?  A guy I know says they ride out there all the time and there is creeks, mud, and trails for miles.  He said they do alot of night rides and its pretty big.

Heard you can park at the church and go across street and down that road(I think it hills road).  I google mapped it and it looks like a decent place.

I live literally right around the block from there on the corner of Shindler and Argyle Forest.  I have been to the pit area on Taylor Field and its alright but I have not been too far down the trails at the end of Hipps Rd.  You have to cruise down the neighborhood streets to get from the two areas.  I parked at a friends house so I don't know how safe it is parking at the church.  And I'm not sure about being messed with by the law either.  We always ride at the corner of Brannan Field and Old Jennings.

Might have to do some exploring tomm at the end of hipps.  The powerlines to the north look to hold some mud.  I see taylor road, it is to the south a mile or so.  I was thinking about tryin to park around hipps road where trails start so I dont have to ride down any paved roads. But i have never been to that area.  You know how it is, tryin to find a new riding place but dont want to get a ticket or have to worry about truck either.   Guess Ill coin flip on there and hastings in morning.  Ill let u know how it went.

Have you been to that spot on Brannan Field?  Its good for some mud and water, not much trails though.  Also, look on google maps behind Home Depot on Argyle.  I haven't been back there in a while but there used to be alot of trails back there.

Well me and a bud cruised over here today to walk around and take a look.  It looks pretty good.  We only walked about half a mile but what we saw impressed us, looks pretty wet.  We're gonna go ride there tomorrow afternoon.

Nice. Is there anywhere to park a truck and trailer?  I did not really want to park at church and ride down that road unless I have to.

Post by: Ole Nasty on December 19, 2012, 05:38:18 PM
As far as I can tell, no.  I guess I'm gonna park at the church and hope for the best.  My friend has a house that backs up to those woods buts its off of Collins so we're gonna try and find or make a trail that leads right up to his house then we ALL will have good parking if we can make that happen, lol.

That would be cool. What time you riding tomm?  We are thinking about giving it a try around 10am.

Crewsing did you ever make it out there?  The guy I was sposed to go with bailed due to hangover and I didn't want to go by myself.

Yes we parked at church with no problems and rode for 3 hours.  My bikes injectors were acting up(I think) so we did not get too crazy.  Pretty cool place. There is a creek running thru the middle of that strip of land, I think it is the start of the ortega river.  We covered the north part of the land all the way to the powerlines.  I wish my bike was running right there were alot of areas that would have been fun to hit.  You need to check it out.  We will be back as soon as bikes are fixed.  Nice not even using a quarter of a tank to get there and back.

How to you get to this place. I live between Girvin Hickory Creek road. We pretty much ride at Hog Wallers, Mudmuckers, Fat Daddys and Hastings from time to time. Always looking for a new and different place.

It's over on the westside off of shindler dr between collins and 103rd.  Lotsa of trails and mud.  I only spent about an hour and a half out there and ran into 2 different groups of people.  It'll take me a while to figure out where I'm at.  I'll see if I can't put some vids up here in a bit.  I wanna go back out there this saturday.

i am interested in going if anyone is looking for a riding partner.  i always hate exploring new places alone.  getting stuck or broken down by yourself sucks.

It is a little tricky there. I know there has to be more ways to get in there but I did not find any besides the one trail off hills road.  Good thing is I get phone service so my maps kind of help.  I want to get this one guy to meet me out there, he goes there alot and will show me the lay out of the place.  He usually meets a group out there on sat nights.

I'm trying to out there Saturday afternoon.  There is a way in on Collins rd immediately after you pass a little bridge right past the church on the right.

A group of us(8) went out today and had a good time.  We made it to the power lines but then it got dark and all the women passengers got cold and wanted to go, so we did, lol.  Good times, seems like I find something new every time I go out there, its worth checking out.

Where did you park? Did you ever find a bridge to other side of creek?  I heard there is one made of trees and 2/4s.

Title: Re: Shindler road in Jacksonville
Post by: Ole Nasty on January 06, 2013, 01:05:41 PM
At the Church.  No never saw a bridge, but if you follow the creek to the powerlines there is a spot most non snorkeled bikes can cross the creek to ride on the side.  My bike can cross the creek at where the large clearing is ;D There is some good trail riding but on those trails is some fender deep water.  A solid axle, stock Honda 420 rode with us and made it every where though.

Which church did you park at?  I see 2 churches on google earth. One on Shindler and one on Collins. Where do you enter the property and any issues parking a trailer. I might have to cruise over that way and scope this out. Like someone else said, i would hate to come out of the woods and find my truck and trailer towed.  I am not real versed with side of Jax.

I went south on shindler till I pass some powerlines then a church will be on your right.  I just parked right in their grass lot and everything went fine.  Sundays not going to happen.  Kind of skecky riding down one paved road but then again a guy was doing 60 on a 1985 sport quad downshindler when I was loading up. ha ha

Is that at the same church we park at?  Looks like you had a big group of riders.  Is that the 103rd bridge?

Yep same church.  That is the bridge on Collins.

You see?  You seeeeee?  My wife said it was a bad area.  And she knows.

Of course if I were to go it would be a worse area.

If somebody tried that with me it would be picture of the week.  He'd be full of .45 cal holes, ATV tracks, knife wounds, hatchet marks, exhaust burns, rope burns, etc, etc.  Would take a while to figure out who he was.  So you guys can feel protected if you ride with me.  I am armed to the teeth and have a bad temper.

U have shindler figured out ol nasty?  I know you have been there 2-3 times.  I had to bail saturday had to get a boat ready for sunday.  But I would like to get out there and follow you around to get it mapped out.

Decently.  I can get to the powerlines and I just found out how to get to the bridge on Collins.  I might miss a turn here or there but I'll get us there, lol.  I still would like to explore over by the powerlines but on the other side of the river.  I plan on going back out there this Saturday if you want to meet up and that goes for anybody else too.  I'm staying local this weekend so I can make it to Mud Muckers next weekend.

You staying over at Muck Mudders?  I might go down there, and sleep in the truck.  I went last Memorial Day, storm came in, didn't do much riding.

I would like to do Shindler this Saturday but the wife would have to be kept in the dark - entirely possible, BTW.

Title: Re: Shindler road in Jacksonville
Post by: Ole Nasty on January 14, 2013, 08:36:31 PM
Whether or not I camp at Mud Muckers will depend entirely if my wife comes with me or not.  If she does I will camp for sure and if not I'll just stay out there really late.  I'll have a meet time for Shindler later this week, but again I usually have family stuff to do on weekend mornings.

OK by me.  Right now iffy for both but things will clear up as the week goes on.  BTW I got a GoPro 2nd Gen I think, 2009 model on Ebay, and will be toying around with it.  I can say now that it works.

For Shindler Road, do you want any loaner firearms?  I can be the armorer for the outfit.  Bladed weapons and crossbow too.  Let me know.

believe me Mingy, anywhere you find me, I too am decently to heavily armed!! but I will definitely take any firearm handouts!! actually that day, I believe every rider in the group had their firearm, unfortunately the crime happened a few short minutes after we left the area!

I am trying to get in with a guy that lives out that way and may let us park in his yard which is actually down hipps toward the riding area... my scooter is down for the moment, I ruined a CV boot last weekend and am waiting on a replacement to get here, I don't think it will make it by the weekend, which is a real bummer... it's a great place to ride here in town!! hopefully this rain will pan out and it'll be great riding!! I ordered the parts last night, so I doubt they will be in by the weekend, but if they are, I will be there!

I would be happy to toss him a few bucks or help out in some way for parking, and I am sure most of the other guys would offer the same.  Hell, let me know what he eats and I will bring him and his family lunch.

I am good to go for any time after 10:00 AM on Saturday, but I'd almost have to ride with some guys who know the area.

it's a deal where he is a friend of a friend... so it's just going to take a little time. I am trying to help my buddy get his scooter running as well, and when that happens we're in there... but until that time we're just going to have to park in the Shindler Road Church of Homicides parking lot  :o

Sucks about your cv boot.  I just texted you.  For anybody else, if you tear your cv boots, get a hold of Driveline Services of Jacksonville off of Lane ave.  I took him my axle(removed by me) and he charged me 23.00 parts and labor to replace it and it took about 15 minutes.  A new boot is $20+ if you order it online.

After 10:00 works for me.

should be a heavenly place to get ventilated actually... lmao!

I'm just upset that none of us gun toting rednecks were there to ventilate the suspects.... I've never had the opportunity to blast a thug! we were there on all terrain vehicles with guns and the opportunity to chase them into the woods and.... well.... psshh.... I digress... I'll fix my axle tomorrow...

My wife the choirgirl ran a thuglet away from our house a few years ago.  I was at work and the dogs were snoring when some kid tried to work the slider by the bedroom.  Woke Judy up, she skipped my .40cal on the nightstand and grabbed the Mossberg 590 in the hall, then went out to the Florida room just in time to see him give up on the Florida room door and let himself out of the pool enclosure.  She ran into the yard and cocked the shotgun as the little bastard (actually my size at 15 years old) jumped the fence and slid down into the mud at the bottom of the ditch.  By the time he staggered out onto the road, Security had him, then they called the Clay Co. Sheriff's Dept.  Junior spent 3 weeks in Juvie for a failed burglary because Clay County fingerprints suspects.  Duval Co. does not, or wouldn't have in this case - and I say that from experience.

I never told her this, but I felt kind of sorry for the kid.  He had NO IDEA what he was screwing around with.  She has, um, spirit.

He was the kind of kid that I could have looked at and probably sized up pretty quickly as non-violent, since he had a long burglary record but no violence on his rap sheet and I've taught kids for 27 years - and just asked him, "What do you think you are up to, you happy a-hole? Get the hell out of here."

That has done it in the past, but only because I can size up kids pretty well.  OTOH, a gun is always within easy reach.

But I am glad she showed him the business end of the Mossberg.  He may think a bit next time.  Or he may blunder into a situation where he makes a smaller woman feel threatened, and then there will be only 1 story to tell.  No big loss either way.
