Title: 1986 Lt230 will not idle
Post by: mattpacetti on August 12, 2012, 08:21:28 PM
I have a 1986 lt230 that will not idle, or after being reved up for a min will take a while to come down to idle then will die. carb has been cleaned, idle adj. screw can be all the way in or out makes no difference same with the air/fule screw ( already tried srock settings) it runs decent in mid range and WOT seems fine as well
it seems to be getting too much fuel at idle
any ideas?
also bike has uni filter, dg exhaust, bored .050, over right 117.5 main jet, 20 pilot jet, needle on 3rd clip

all help will be appreciated

When a carb is not properly set, it will not idle. Setting the float on some of these really does require a micrometer because there is a spring loaded pin on the top of the needle and the float measurement must be taken when the two just make contact..holding the carb level will allow the weight of the float to push the needle to far resulting in an unset float. Also sounds like the low speed jet may be clogged..a small wire is best for cleaning them out..cleaner and air will not do the trick..ethanol turns to sticky sap like substance that must be forcefully removed sometimes...Harbor Freight sells a micrometer with the bottom measuring point for around 25$ that will get you set right..my yz426 took quite a while to get set right and had the same issues...patience and the right tools will prevail...any questions give me a call..
