Welcome to the forum!!!!!!   I've been to Tate's Hell State Forest. Not much there, pine trees, lime rock logging roads & lots of Black Bear shizz!!!!!! Wasn't impressed @ all. The permit you get @ Croom also works @ Tate's Hell. I rode it once & can't think of a reason to go back!!!!!!!!!
There are members here that do ride Oceola & hopefully they will chime in! I have talked with them & sounds like a good place to ride.

Tate's Hell is nothing like croom!!!! From what i seen there it's a pine tree plantation. The roads
are lime rock & I mean roads, not trails!!!!  Big trees ready for cuttin to newly planted trees. The roads have no shade so be ready for lots of sun!!!!!!!!! By the time I got back the trail head I was glad to see the truck!!. It was one of the few times i felt like that!!!  If I ever do go back (which i doubt I ever will) it will be in the winter so the heat isn't so oppressive.  Seen very little wildlife but lots of bear tracks & their dropings. Didn't see any deer or hog tracks.  Give it a try, you might like it.  Suggest getting there first thing in the morning while it's still somewhat cool tho!!! I got there about 11am. & it was already hot, the sun was up high enough there was no shade on the roads!!!

The first time i went to wiregrass i felt the same way bout the heat what about water over the roads

They have been grooming trails at Croom!!!   More relaxing if you stay on the groomed trails.   I like the wild stuff but some times the mild and croom has it all since they started grooming..

Yes croom clay is nasty I avoid the stuff at all cost.   they have started to groom trails in the last few months and have made several inprovments at the park.

There's ditches on both sides of the roads so I don't think that will be a problem.

Title: Re: trails
Post by: cobrap on May 30, 2012, 10:55:49 AM
Osceola is nice ! Lots of dry trails, alittle mud.  Plenty of shade.  Pretty quiet !  Not too much traffic, a big plus !

Title: Re: trails
Post by: cobrap on May 30, 2012, 03:42:01 PM
Plenty of trails that intersect with roads.  Yes, you can get to the hunt camp.  I went riding out there a
couple weeks ago with Mingy and Mudbucket.  Good time on the trails.  We just had a ton of rain.  Probably a good time to go
is now.  Low dust with a taste of mud.

Title: Re: trails
Post by: SMP63 on May 30, 2012, 08:17:26 PM
I stuck to the trail marked out on the map. If the rangers find you riding around on other roads theres a good chance they will give you a ticket for not staying on the marked trail.
You might want to call & ask them before you go to make sure!!!!!!! I just figured it was like riding in Ocala so I stayed on the marked trail.

Patches is right, Durhamtown is offroad heaven. I've never been anywhere like it. They have a website. We were there all weekend and didn't get to see everything. Can't wait to go again.

Sounds like I should try croom again soon. Haven't been in a long time.

Title: Re: trails

I looked at the web site thats alot of trails for atv how long it take u to get their

Title: Re: trails
Post by: AintSkeered on June 04, 2012, 10:18:50 AM
I would describe Appalachicola trails as being similar to ONF, but, far less crowded. But, it's not worth the drive, IF ONF is closer to you.

Title: Re: trails
Post by: dalem352 on June 04, 2012, 11:04:25 AM
Well i do agree with not going their if its like onf my downfall with it is i can't camp an ride from camp have u been too osceola n/f they have wiggins hunt camp to camp an ride cobrap rode their couple week ago said good ride

If your talking about Durhamtown it takes me around 8 hours from the Tampa area.   Ocala, your about 1.5-2.0 hours closer so 6sih but well worth it.  You need to spend a few days you will not regret it.  :Fp  The only thing to keep in mind is bring what supplies and food you will need for your stay.  The place is in the middle of no place.  The closest store is several miles away, gondy mart heaven and with Donald Trump prices!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree with patches on the good visibility!!!!!!!!  Just be on the look out for the wandering trees
& magic vines LMAO!!!!!!!!  It has been reported that some of the trees jump out in front of you
or the magic vines will reach out & help steer you in to them!  LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!
