Title: 2004 Polaris Scrambler 500 4x4 Premature belt failure
Post by: RV Trax on January 11, 2012, 02:04:56 PM
My sons Scrambler 500 4x4 is destroying the drive belt about every 100 miles.  The belt surfaces are clean and not scored.  The clutch linkages appear good.  The belt deflection is almost 1 inch with a straight edge and the engine and transmission mounts are good.  Is there something I am missing, or is there a better clutch kit/belt available for this machine?  It has always seemed a little soft on belt engagement.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

#1 Reduce deflection to 1/2in, #2 Stronger/Stiffer spring on the secondary clutch. It will stop the clutches from slipping so much on take off and under heavy load. :N

Did you buy the bike new? May have EBS or not.  That system uses a different belt.   Wrong belt gets wiped out.
Happened to my 2007.

Did not buy new, but I have purchased the belts from Polaris.  I will need to order shims to reduce belt deflection and I am trying to locate a stronger spring as suggested.  Any Ideas for clutch parts?

EBAY Will probably be your best choice for price and finding the right set up.
