Anyone know if it's okay to ride at 137th Ave & SW 8th Street in Miami?  I have noticed that a lot of people have been riding there lately but don't really know if the cops hassle you or not. 
Want to go tomorrow 6-4-11.  Any comments would be appreicated.

How did the ride go??? Did you have any problems with cops??? How were the trails and could you give me some info on the place?

The ride was awesome. We went in at 137th and 8th street and ended up at NW 41 street and 140 ave.  Then we came back.  When you go in at 137th and 8th you need to stay inside the trees and stay off the road that runs parallel to 8th street because people can see you if you ride the street parallel to 8th street.  I also discoverd that people are riding at the end of NW 41st.  There is a lot of parking there and the trails were pretty awesome.  I am not 100% sure how to get there but i think you just head down NW 41street until the end.  You can try putting 13850 NW 41 street in your car gps(which i think is the addresss of the jail that's out there) and then go past the jail untill the end.  either place you choose is pretty good.

pepito113 do you have a 4x4 or a sport bike?  you can ride either at these two places now but during raining season you may have trouble in some of these areas.

Big fire out in that area today.  Hope no ATVs were responsible.... they'll probably get blamed regardless.  Fox news interviewed a couple atv riders that were in the area when the fire started.

Was out in that general area on Saturday and then on Sunday this huge fire starts.  I hope they don't shut down that area.  It's an awesome area to ride.  I heard the local Miami news tonight and they said that it could have been someone who threw a cigarette out the window or an ATV'er.  I am sure we will get the ultimate blame.   :-[

I have a polaris 4x4. Thats awesome. I will be out of town for a few day but would like to go down there and ride. Cool maybe if you go out there again we can meet up for a ride.

The media on channel 7 last night said the exhaust on atvs were the cause of the fires off chrome ave. This is not good for our sport

Fox News is now directly blaming ATVs for this fire and have warned ATVers not to go to this area anymore.  This was a fun area to ride but no more.....

The winds have shifted and now the smoke has covered Homestead.  cough.... cough.... I'm heading for Key West and going diving....

Yeah, it could not have been a cigarette smoker, cause we know how considerate they've been over the years! And, we also know how thorough law enforcement and the media can be in their investigation of EVIDENCE. That being said, our right to trespass in that area does not preclude the safety of the residents living next to that SFWMD property, having posted no trespassing signs.

Anyone been out there since the fires? Anybody heard if they are kicking people out or if they posted signs? Looking to ride in the next 2-3 days and would like some info on it... Live in Pines and would not like to drive all the way down to see signs and cops all over the place. Thank you.   ;D

I would'nt worry about it!   I see people out there every weekend and no one says a thing.  park and stay in the woods and you'll be fine ;)

i wouldnt go out there anymore, fwl was out there this past weekend and gave a group of us warnings said theyre cracking down now.

it doesnt bother me i never ride there was bored at home and figured id go see how it is and bam no riding, ill stick to the parks and a track and im good, i got land in north flkorda i ride anyway

What ever happened to the jetport? any chance dade will open this for atv use?

Where is the jetport by? Is that the old strip by us 27 where it curses to occehoobee?

The jetport is north of 41 in the cypress

I was out riding most of the day on saturday and did not have any problems with FWC or any cops all day. We were out there till 5 pm. We even pulled out a Hummer H3 that was stuck. I can tell you the ground is so dry its got cracks all over and the rain that fell DID NOT make the place unridable, just had puddles in some places. The kids had a blast!!!   

8th street and nw 41 st is alright. I stay by the back of tamiami airport and ride past krome all the way down to the Humps in Homestead . Whoever wants to meet up send me a message. Lookin for some new riders that aint scared to ride a little fast lol....

 A little mud should be interesting lol. I hope its not downpouring at noon. But a lot of the trails are rock trails. 8thst and. 41 st must be swamped I'm thinking.

How long do you guys ride for?? About how many miles do you do on average out there???

Well 2 b honest I was planning on having my six pack in by tge weekend but it didn't arrive so I can't ride to much without having to go back b refill I'll try n take some bottles full of gas in like my back pack

Usually like two tankfulls will last me all day of riding.

Hey whats up guys... Been watching this forum for a couple months now, and finally decided to register. My buddy and I have been wanting to ride down there for a while now and just wanted to know some details on the place before we go. I live up in Pembroke Pines and we have been riding up in Okeechobee the last three weekends, been the only good place we can find with some good room. I raced motorcross amateur pro for 5 years the joined the service so I sold all my sh*t but just bought a quad to do some riding and getting back into it just not as hardcore. Would like to get together some time with y'all show us around a little, always looking for good guys to ride with. We ride sport quads not sure what you guys are rockin. Thanks

by car, truck. I wouldnt do it on an atv if thats what you mean ??? , but thats just me.  It aint that far to drive with the atv on a truck or trailer from where your talkin about

If it keeps raining till sunday like it did today then for sure its gonna be a river with deep mud holes. I run a open airbox on my bike so we have to see how the weather is. But if its rideable im down we have to see how the weather turns out to be.. By sat we should know.

I run an open airbox too  on my Z400 usmc686, I aint into the sinking the bike up to the bars in mud or water. I like riding trails thru the woods.  cross your fingers and hope we can dry out a bit for sunday. if we do dry out (a bit) I'll see you guys out there(137ave & 8st) on sunday

Hi guys. Sorry for leaving early. Yeah she is doing better. a little scary because she is only 3 months. Went to the hospital and told us it was Colic. Got some meds and usually within the first year it goes away by itself. I will be out of town this weekend but I will hit you guys up and maybe in 2 weeks or so we can go.

Just to chime in Croom doesnt allow 2 people on 1 quad unless manfufactured for that purpose. So Serg and I wouldn't be able to attend. What about dirtyfoot from what I hear they have good trails for sport bikes.

Atc's are good for the mud with the right tires and there automatic so thats good for the ladies also...

serg88  you should shop around!!!    on this site I saw a couple of atv,s that would be good for her to start out on and still have enough power so when she gets more experience riding.      250 ex is a great bike ;)     I hope the weather holds out for this weekend I been seeing that area we rode and saw some great trails to the west and north. check it out on googleearth.

We want to get yall out to Okeechobee some time too... i am def looking forward to a Croom trip as well. And i am down for a trip with the ladies as well my girl would love to come we would just have to take it a little easy thats all.... its too hard to maneuver and ride hard with two but if we do a trip soley for that purpose it might not be so bad... I'm new to riding in south FL, I just rode at NW 41st and had a great time (utility quads).  Where is the riding place you guys are calling tamiami?  The 137 ave place looks to be to hot with the cops right now and I want to try some place different.

Basically we meet behind Tamiami airport at sw 136st and sw 162 ave. Then we ride west past krome ave  along sw 136st that leads into the everglades were all the trails are and head north from there.

dannyd2450, we just rode at 137 ave and 8st last sunday with usmc, you sayin the cops were there at 137and 8st? when?    and just so you know anything west of krome is the everglades nat'l park area and you can get a $500.00 fine and can be subject to arrest by FWC. usmc I think I mentioned that? 

Zman03.. I've been riding in this area for years along with nw 41 and 137&8th. Fwc patrols all 3 locations and yes its illegal to ride in all 3 spots. But like everything else you have to be smart on how you ride. I've never had any problems with any encounters with FWC,and just so you know more people ride behind tamiami then they do on 8th 8).

You guys are right about the cops..... As long as your cool, they normally treat you ok.  As a newbie, I'll stick to nw 41st for a while....

Everytime we ride we all know its the wild west out there. Definately have to ride and be careful ;).It would be nice if we had a park down here like croom ...

I've already requested a meeting with the Mayor of Dade county. I hope to make some progress on the trail system we talked about the day we rode at 137ave and 8st.  keep your fingers crossed ;)

Yellow, how bad is the water?  I have 4wd bikes, but With too much mud, it becomes a pain.

Sup guyz, we're planning on riding and meeting up at the end of nw 41st on Sun at noon. I heard from some other people that there is a trail that runs from there to the plane crash site in the everglades. But if anything theres plenty of trails to choose from out there. 8)

looking to ride NW 41st for the 1st time sunday what kind of riding is it up there is it anything like bird and 157 use to be? Also do i just park at the end of 41st or do i have to park somewhere else to avoid the HEAT?

u can just park at the end of 41st kinda by the powerlines and the trails are nothing crazy and muddy it kinda has a lil bit of everything let us know if your going to meet up

I'm going to be there Saturday, but since we're new, I wouldn't want to ride with anyone yet (as newbies, we drive too slow).  Trails are a bit wet and seem to loop around a-lot.  The great thing is parking is easy and you don't sit worried about your car getting towed.

Once I get my speed up, I'll bring the drinks for a group ride..

Conditions out there were nice and dry with no water whatsoever on the trails. We must have seen 60 + sportbikes,4x4's,side by sides, and mudtrucks. This area is way better than 8th st and 137. There's so many trails to choose from!! All and all it was a great day. 8). For those of you that like the same areas this is truly the place to ride......

No water but a lot of bottom less pits. At one point the mud almost kept 1 of the bikes. Took 3 4x4's pulling and the front one attached to a tree winching.

are you (07foreman and usmc898) describing the same area?   I think you guys are talkin bout 41st right?   so was it dry? or bottomless pits?  and when you say trails, do you mean straight rock roads or through the woods between trees trails?   

Whats up guys, sounds like it was a good day of riding down south. We rode up at L-cross this weekend. We went up on sat and camped out and came home son sun. Rode both days it was so nice. Like 15 degrees cooler up there the track was awesome and really well groomed. Def didn't even get to half of the trails. They have like 13000 acres rideable from what I was told. Def should get a group together to go our there if yall like to camp its only 2 hours away too so its not far at all.

Zman03 google earth the nw 41 st area, But yeah theres a mix of rock trails, woodtrails,open grassy trails to catch some speed, and of course the deeper you go west the deeper the mud gets for the 4x4's, We should set up another ride for this weekend. Let me know.

41st was the best ever the trails there are so nice and there is so many options to ride from mud to sand to rocky trail and the nice wood trails also zman so theres options for anything you could like even drag racing on the street if anybody wants to do a lil racing lol but lets plan another ride for the weekend , well if this hurricane >:( doesnt come

Yeah, because that's exactly what the ATV community needs. People drag racing on the street after trespassing and riding illegally on property that's not theirs.

Darwinism...we need more of it.

The drag racing on the road will call for unwanted attention and get us all kicked out from riding the AWESOME trails out on 41st.

looks like alotta rain comin this weekend :(  i guess thats the end of the weekend riding plan?   and I did a little googlearth on 41st and  looks like 137ave and 8st in alotta ways. as for the drag racing on the streets, I'd rather go to the dragstrip and race all night without any issues. but thats just me! ;D

On nw 12st and 137ave  right next to the cement plant the cops found  a burnt up car with a body in it last night around 1130. The area is heated for sure now....

I doubt anyone on an atv has anything to worry about.  the cops are only gonna ticket a guy on an atv for riding on the street.  just cause this happened, I dont think I have to worry about the cops now all of the sudden  being around there patrolling. you know the drill stay outta sight in the woods riding and you wont have any issues.  I been there 30+ times and never had an issue.   

yea as USMC said there are alot of dry trails but i have a 4x4 so the farther west you go you find the bottomless pits. If u have a 4x4 it'll definitely get tested out there.

so were do you park your trucks and drop the atv's? im looking at google earth and not sure were to drop at?

Crazy, just run google earth until the street ends..  Keep going past the road, you'll see it turn to dirt, then you can see the trucks with trailers.

With all this rainfall these past couple of days im sure 8st and 41st must be swamped with lots of water. Not good for the sportquads.But im going to drive out there after work and see how it looks on fri and if the weather is good I'll be out on 41st this weekend but im pretty sure its gonna rain everyday in the evenings. :dunno.gif

I didn't get a chance to go on fri but Ill be out there on 41st with 305rider at noon today if the weather stays nice. You should be good with your 4x4 ;). Ill call you at noon when I get there or if anything changes.

the sand area by the stadium next to the Walmart on (nw27ave) should be awesome with all this rain :ThumbsUp.gif  I might check it out sat around 9 am if anyone wants to ride. its small but has great berms and a small track to get a good work out.

Dude, I've been there 10-20 times and never once had a problem. I park just past the police station on the north end which would be south of the Walmart. I go from 9-12noon and Im outta there. Of course if you ride on the street you can only expect to have problems!!! :deal.gif  stay in the sand and away from nw27 ave and you should be ok!   try not attract attention and you'll have a blast ;)   I ride for like 15-20 minutes then rehydrate, ride some more ,etc.   

I'm off all week of anyone is riding down there let me know got no plans till mon and ready to go just gets boring by my self...

Ya I figured it would be pretty wet down there lately... U ride tracks at all... Be interested in riding the track at lcross and some trails? Whens good for ur schedule I enjoyed riding with u last time as well (ur my pace kinda rider and more) helps us push each other

at 45 the track whips my butt, and my bike would split in two with no suspension and my fat butt. I dont mind the track, its just intense (always on the gas and on your heels). the trails for me is alot more fun. At my age I gotta stay safe and in the trails you got lots of shady spots to stop and rest for a minute.  let me know what day you wanna go and we'll set it up. I'll PM you my #

I'm down to ride around the kendall area/homestead area in trails and stuff. I went yesterday through trails in homestead we started from texaco near tamiami airport and ended up at a racetrac right before US1 towards the keys.

As long as there is no black top involved I am def down just let me know when...

I got a feeling Marc has alotta street riding in mind if he's talkin bout riding to homestead  from Tamiami airport. Marc , i suggest you check out some real trails like L-cross,Croom,dirtyfoot (when they reopen)   rock roads :ThumbsDown.gif and farm field roads :ThumbsDown.gif A'INT TRAILS!!!

I've been to 8st and 137ave 25+ times and never had an issue    41st FWC can mess with you cause your next to water mngt. land and FWC patrols the land :deal.gif.  If you go to 41st and dont have any issue's then keep going.  It aint what your doing that the cops have a problem with, its where your doing it.    I would'nt doubt the guys being hassled are the same guys racing on the street :Clap.gif

you can park outside, just stay in the woods and dont ride where people are parked STAY IN THE WOODS!!!!!!!!!! ;)     as far as a good mechanic I recommend you check out ray at performance atv just south of tamiami airport his # is 305 235-3880   he's closed on mondays.  if you want cheap  work on it yourself!!!!

I rode with these guys and they ride real good (Track or Trail). I was surprised to see them ridin on those limerock roads. But if you had fun more power to ya!  I'll wait till it dries a little then hit the soft dirt.

YELLOW RR, Nw 41 st by far has the best trails way more than 8th st and once it dries up in like oct its gonna be real nice to ride with colder air and drier trails. 8)

I gotta ride sunday am in the cold weather!!!!!        should be a little wet but the weather makes up for it!!!!

I found a great spot to park in the woods next to where the paintballers park!!   there is a truck tire next to the entrance to the woods, plenty of nice huge trees and shade.  you can drive in with a truck and trailer.  once your in you cant even tell if anyone is in there!!!! ;D   

last time i went to 8th there was like big ass road blocks everywhere... and i couldnt even get in

Holylands was good when it was dry(for me), I walked the wooded area from the pics I sent you. can you post them?  I cant believe so many people that I heard riding there today and the area in the pics is still untouched. I saw (just walking through the woods) countless areas (dry) that you can go through with a quad even after all this rain I rairly saw a puddle. I think Im keepin this spot to myself.

who ever is riding 41st by the jail, if your one of the people racing up and down the road by the jail your gonna start getting arrested and there gonna shut it down, cop was there and was kicking people out cause the idiots racing there banshees up and down the road. the plant thats there they dont mind that we ride there, but the jail is giving a lot of complaints about whoever is racing on the street.

I hate that the paintballers that have destroyed 137ave & sw 8st. if you see the incredible mess these guys have made you'd barf!!!, trash & garbage everywhere they play and park.
Now they have set up a new field just south of where the people who ride atv's park. I hope they get arrested for the mess the paintballers have made there!!!! :(

Tough rules and too-flooded most of the year, including right now(this is usually the dry season).

You must have an ORV operator's license.

You must have your ATV visually inspected and meet the criteria for permitting.

You must buy a permit ($50) each year.

All designated trails now. Get caught off a trail and lose your privileges for a year. Do it a second time and get your ATV taken away, a huge fine levied against you and your privileges taken away forever. (I've seen it happen)

15mph speed limit. And yeah, they're enforcing it. I was in over this past weekend and there were NPS rangers on the trail watching.

3 month closed period every year for anyone except property owners.

A genuine dislike of the ATV crowd by everyone down there thanks to bad apples using the place as a mud bog and trespassing on private property.


So, thats what we mean by heavy rules.

I had a permit there 06-10 but didn't renew 2011 due to health problems.  Some of my best rides were there!  The permit process isn't difficult and the inspection was more for your own safety.  Even with the rules it's a great place to ride and enjoy the beauty of the Everglades.  It's worth spending $50 just to try it out!

Sunday morning it looked like half of miami was at 8 th and 137th

I drove by sunday about 2-3 o'clock there was probably 50 trucks with trailers. I like it when its bone dry out there, there is still a little water in spots (nothing you can't go around). Its ridable. I like to go sun about 9am-1 pm then Im outta there.

Has anyone been out here since the fire?

great time to make new trails through the woods!!!!   most of where the fire was is all dry trails not mud. the closer you stay to the south, the dryer it is. lots of mud to the north.  and a little shower hit the area this afternoon.   

Anyone riding this area anymore since the fire? 8th and 137th ave.

I walked the wooded area prospecting some dry trails :N  Im so glad people in miami ride the streets ;D  I'll stick with the dry woods all day long under the shade 8)
