The Charger is coming back too. But it will not be the same without the big block tire smoking power like the old days. :-\

It sure would look nice setting in my garage next to my `73 Challenger (not a hemi  :().  I wonder if they will offer a pistol grip shifter in the new model?

Pontiac started this with the GTO. But the kids that are disigning the  cars  are clueless of old school stuff. I had a 70 RT Charger 440 4bbl and a 70 Superbee 440 Six pack both 4 speed with pistol grips. The Superbee was my high school champion. Spanked all those mustangs and cameros. MOPAR kick A$$ back then

Quad32x, Not making fun of you... been in the car business for over 24 years, but before you say some one full of it. Get the fact first before making that statement.

those cars our just memorys now. Back in the 70s those cars you can buy for less than $5,000 new. Now just the vette is going for over $65,000. I wish I had some of those cars back for my son to enjoy.  :-\  Later I post on the for sale forum my current muscle car I am selling.

Why do I have to do that? Went you are in the car business for that long, you collect and sell cars. I do the same with my Quads... BTW I worked in the service end of that business not sales.

The 426 hemi was a very hard engine to work on, but other than that it was a nice car. Lime Green does look good.

Yea.  The  LT-1.   350 ci  and  350 hp. 8)  By  the  time  I  got  it  though  that  motor  was  long  gone.  Went  out  and  got  a  4  bolt  main  truck  block  and  went  from  there ! ;D

Was that the split bumper?
I had a 70 split bumper but I don't think it was a Z-28. It did have a 350 with a 2 speed power glide. That cra was pretty darned fast. I only had it for 3 months and then sold it when I moved.

Mine  had  the  one  piece  on  the  front  but  on  the  Z-28  you  could  get  the  RS package  [Rally Sport]  and  it  had  the  split  bumper  and  round  blinker/running  lights  on  either  side  of  the  grill  along  with  the  wood  grain  interior.  The  standard  Zs  blinker/running  lights  where  under  the  bumper. 8)

It's sad that when and if they bring back this car it's gonna be 1/2 of what the original car was. So much emission crap on it, detuned, and designed for mediocre(sp?) performance. They ruined the GTO's image when they brought it back out. Looks like a grand am. Ford did ok with the new mustang but still should of made it an option for a 5.4L or a blown 4.6. Well the only thing left is for GM to unvail the camaro. I'm sure it'll look like a 68. Well, if it comes out.

That's the one I used to have...man I'd love to have that car back :'(.

BTW, although most of the new cars are loaded with emissions and HP #'s are reported as lower the new versions usually outperform the old ones by a mile.  Today all HP readings are rear wheel, the old days used crank HP.  Most of the 60's musclecars ran mid 14's in the quarter mile while now 4 door sedans do that.  The advantage on the old cars was that they were sooo easy to modify.  Changing headers and intakes along with a gear swap made a big difference.

And yes the new GTO is ugly, but it does run 13.3's.

Title: Re: The new hemi cuda
Post by: jbbj220 on July 07, 2005, 07:53:35 PM
Not chuck, but yes they did.

My first was a 64 Falcon Sprint with a 260 CI engine and a 4 speed also had a bench seat with cut out for the shifter. It was no dog as it would run 13.45 which was not bad for a stock car, well headers and 4:10 gear but at the time was aNHRA "J" stock class. This was with the stock 2 barrel carb. Fun car would shock lots.

Guys being the young age of 34 all these cars bring back the memories.
The only problem is now most of the cars I want I cant afford em.I saw
a real clean 73 camaro Saturday guy wanted $9,000.Probably not too
bad a price but for a 3rd vehicle that is way past my limit plus work you
will need to do.Just seems the best way to go anymore is an older 4.6l
mustang and build it and still get 15-20mpg with air conditioning .Yes
the new GTO is not the prettiest car where you gonna get 400hp for
less than $35k.New Stangs are nice 300hp look and drive  good.Sorry
know too many who spent tons of money on cars and never finished.
their cars.Nothing against the classics but I don't miss drum brakes and
manual steering and no a/c.But if  i had  my choice 67 RS with hideaway
headlights.Just like in "Better Off Dead" for you 80's dudes

If I could have the car I wanted money no object would be a 46 ford
with a hemi and 8-71 blower with fuel injection.Saw one in HOT ROD
in the eighties and never forgot it.Have someone like Boyd Coddington
build it.Love the sound of blower

Well since hemis's,big block chevy SS and shelby fords are out of the
price range of most folks.Matter of fact most mainsteam 60'S and early
70 going up.What will be next thing 74-79 camaro and firebird  TA's.
Good clean 2 door malibus and El-Caminos are getting up there. To me
78-79 Z-28 were about best looking of the bunch.73-76 Trans Ams
with the round lights were sharp.80-86 Regals,Cutlass,Monte Carlos
will probably be it.Cant bring myself to thinking a fairmont is pretty.
