Title: Outrageous Boat Ride!!
Post by: digginfool on March 29, 2011, 07:46:21 PM
You can hear the turbochargers screaming; too high pitched to be superchargers.  Watch the GPS speedo.

Did a little research and the boat is powered by two 1350 hp Mercury racing engines.  Each engine is 552 cu.in., dual overhead cam, four valves per cylinder with twin aftercooled turbochargers.  I wonder who makes the base engine.  The only hint I found is that it may be a Mercedes engine souped up by Mercury Racing.  Personally, I don't think I would want to go 176 mph in a 31 foot boat.  Hell, I wouldn't want to go that fast on water period!   :D

They sure have come a long way. There 700hp supercharged motor needed 110oct fuel. They are making 1350 on 92. Turbos are a wounderfull thing. Just think if they ran race gas and turned up the boost.

put it in 4ft rollers and see how fast she goes.... ;)
Nice boat, but speed tests on a flat calm lake are just for show.

That makes about as much sense as how well a Murcielago would do on a TORC course.   ::)  Anyway, the engine the M1350 is based on does come from Mercedes and the package (engine and drive unit) costs a little over $200,000.00 each.  Think about that; the boat is powered by $400,000.00 of engine drive train!  Add in the boat, electronics and other niceties and you are probably looking somewhere well north of $600,000.00 for a 31 foot boat.  Of course, that IS a 176 mph 31 foot boat.   ;)

sorry diggin I forgot you are gods gift to this forum and any comment not made by you is idiotic.
I spent many years in the offshore racing industry on world champion superboat teams. Little Caesars Pizza in 89-90 and INXS in early 90's. My idea of a boat worth that kind of money is one built to race offshore. It appears your idea is one that is flashy, expensive and fast in lakes. To each their own.
Oh have you ever seen the 36 Skater race boats, looks like this one copied them but they do race offshore.

My idea of a boat that costs that much money is powered by diesels and has plenty of rod holders.  You're right; to each his own.   ;)  And don't put words in my mouth.  Didn't call you an idiot but if you feel like one, then, again, to each his own.

You have to watch the GPS speedo at 4:20... It was doing over 170 MPH...

I don't know how you could have missed the large digital readout the camera kept panning to.  The dial gauge does read in Km/h but even then, most of the time it's right of 220, which translates greater than 137 mph.  As Rotten says, look at the 4:20 mark.  Digital speedo reads 175 mph and the dial speedo is reading over 280 Km/h.
