Title: Where to go for a weekend/camping?
Post by: strubby on December 02, 2010, 04:40:53 PM
Hey guys, I'm tired of waiting around for my friend's to get off their butts and go ride somewhere new, so I want to plan a weekend with my girl to go camp/ride and have some fun. I'm considering either Croom, ONF or Apalachicola, ONF being the closest as I'm in central eastern FL (Daytona area). I haven't ridden Ocala since they started the permits, marked trails, etc. I've heard it took a lot of 'fun' factor out, but she'll be with me so I'm not too worried about that. Will I have a problem carrying a passenger on a KFX450R in any of these places? We would both be wearing helmets of course. Also, I have a HMF Comp full system. It has a spark arrestor, but not stamped forestry approved (that I know of), but does have three cores, so I should be able to bring the db down for inspection. Basically, I just want to go somewhere new for a weekend and enjoy it, with a passenger. Any suggestions, tips, etc would be appreciated since I haven't ridden in the forests since they started the new rules. Thanks!

Go to Dirty Foot. For where you live and what you want to do its by far going to be your best bang for the buck. Croom wont allow 2 up riding, Ocala sucks and also wont allow 2 up.
Motoplex is great but a farther drive.

Yea Dirty Foot croom will not allow 2 up at all and they are kinda jerks about it if they catch you seen them make a couple leave after telling them twice no 2 up

DFMR or Motoplex and you dont need to worry about db levels. Cost effective and you can camp all weekend with a tent or trailer. Both good places and good people.

Good thing I asked on here first... That sucks they're strict on 2 up riding. Ocala is too? Like I said, I haven't been there since they changed it all. I've been dieing to hit up Motoplex, but didn't think of it as a place to have fun riding 2 up. If there was a group going I wouldn't feel so bad about playing on the MX track for hours, ha. I'm not really worried about the drive, I even considered Durhamtown. I'll look into both more. Thanks guys.

What's the fee at DFMR now? Wasn't it like $50 a head for the weekend then dropped to $20 a head? Is it still $20?

Another thing I should have mentioned, it's not a true weekend. It's Sat evening through Monday. I see MP and DFMR are only open weekends, which means I'd get there Sat to camp, then only one day to ride. There's a feature weekend at MP that weekend, and it says trail riding all day and night, so would we be able to go for a night ride Sat after setting up, then enjoy all the events Sunday? I'm trying to see if that's worth it or not. Sat-Mon is one of the reasons I was originally looking into the forests. Hmm...

Strubby,

We will be going to motoplex this coming saturday to do some riding all day, camp, and then alittle bit more riding on Sunday am if you are interested??? We will be camping out there saturday night as well. You should come....motoplex is a very cool place to ride and camp....also the riding out there is for everyone and their different style of riding...water, mud, trails, ..... you'll have a ball. Contact Paul_S on here, he owns the place...

Call me if you wanna head over that way, we will be leaving Jax around 10am on saturday am if you wanna meet up and go!
