Title: Do you love your bike?
Post by: PureLogic on June 30, 2005, 09:29:48 PM
I was talking to a buddy of mine that has a warrior and he was bragging that he never washes the bike, didn’t know you had to lube the chain, and thought that $.79 motor oil from the bottom shelf of the almost $.99 cent store was acceptable oil to use. He then started making fun of me because I used REAL Yamaha oil and filters, washed, detailed and inspected my bike after every ride. Just wondering does anybody else love there ATV as much as I love mine? I use the pressure washer and knock off all the big stuff and then suds it up with Palmolive (with racks removed) and then dry it off with the Absorber (chamois). And then I take Pledge and  wipe down all the colored plastics fender wells and underbody. (it gives it a super glossy shine, fills in some of the scratches, and makes for easier clean up).  Then I use Armorall to shine up the tires.  After that, I Pledge the rims and re-install the racks. Then I inspect my axles, air cleaner and all fluid levels.  And all of this usually takes me 4 hours a bike. I use Pledge for everything, my helmets, goggles, ATV, rims, GPS, glasses, and everything else plastic. On goggles and helmets it’s the best water doesn’t collect and mud doesn’t stick and most importantly cuts down on allot of the fog in them. I love Pledge.

Nice bike. Pledge really works? I will have to give it a try before next ride.

After everyride I wash/degrease, dry, and then spray the chain with wd40. After every 3 rides I change the oil. So I guess you could say I love my quads. Plus it's a great reasons to have a few beers while BS'n with friends while washing down the bikes?  -Mark

Is that guy crazy using 79 cent oil? I definently wash my bike after every ride and change the oil with MOTUL good quality stuff about every 5-10 HRS.

It has been said that Men take better care of their stuff (cars, quads, boats...) than they do of themselves.

I use Simply Green to wash mine, nothing caustic or corrosive in it safe enough to drink!  ;D  I'll have to try the Pledge, great tip, Thanks!

I use the same wash on the plastics that I use on my truck,,,,made by meguires I believe.

then I use greased lightning on everything else to get the grime and sticky mud off,,,makes the tires look good too.

then I dry it, then soak it ALL down with WD40 except for the chain which I use a different lube for,,,,then about every 4-5th ride I change the oil.

I hose all the big stuff off. Spray it down in Simple Green and use a t-shirt rag (so it doesn't scratch) to wipe it all real god. Then hose it off. I use simple green and a scrub brush on the tires , even the tread. then I stand it up on the back wheels and spray down the whole underside with simple green and do the same with washing, hosing and air dry (so I don't scratch the plastics or stickers).
After it is 100% dry I spray it down real heavy with WD40. Wiping it in on the plastics with a T shirt rag. It keeps them shiny and helps keep them from drying out. It also makes it easier to wash next  time. WD40 works like tire wet on the tires, too. I put chain lube next. Clean the air filter and oil after every couple races. I polish the wheels and nerfs about every 3-4 rides.

Obsessed...yeah :-\ Pretty sad for a girl... 8)
