Title: Snorkel Question ?
Post by: 1Scorpion on August 21, 2010, 04:38:34 PM
I have a 04 Rancher AT and I'm considering adding a snorkel just in case. My question is if I make a snorkel will I have to rejet the carb or will it be OK  with the stock set up ?

You will deffinetly have to rejet, Im not sure exactly but Im 80% certain you have to up jet.

I have a really good jetting method, if you have the knowledge to build your snorkel and a place to buy jets, I will help you get it tuned in if need be?

This isnt EFI is it?

We snorkeled 2 Ranchers with zero difference in performance without rejetting. Not saying that will be the case with yours though, but I would try it first.

No EFI. Is there a certain size pipe I should use for a snorkel ?  I don't want to hurt the performance. I mostly trail ride. I have the ability to make a snorkel but any advise is helpful. I've got time to do it cause it's too hot to ride.

I used 2" spa hose from Lowes.

The ranchers I had were manual, so we just had to do the airbox and the carb vent hoses, took about 15 minutes, cost about $15 and was stupidly easy. No difference in performance.

Mine is a Rancher AT  (auto with a 400 )  I just did an oil change and replaced the gear oil front and rear. I didn't find any sign of water even though it's been thru some deep stuff.  I'll look at it this week. I didn't notice a vent hose on the carb but I wasn't looking for one. It was after I put it away that I started thinking a snorkel might be cheap insurance. Did you cut a hole in the body work for the snorkel ?

If you snorkel your rancher with 1.5" pvc take a grinder to the last 2 inches of you first piece it will then go into your factory rubber boot. From there you can run it up to ur fender and go up it with the correct angles to not have to drill the plastic. OR you can go under the fender put a 90 on it and then run ur upriser from that punch a 1.5 hole in the plastic put a 90 on the top.

Take it all apart paint it then re-install once dry. If you didnt live on the other end of FL i'd help you with it.
