Title: Sand Dunes in or around Florida???
Post by: Moving To Florida on February 20, 2010, 10:49:05 PM
Hello,  We are looking to move to Florida next year from CA.  We are avid Sand Dune riders.  We normally head to Sand Mountain, Fallon NV but aslo love Dumont Dunes - CA, Glammis Dunes - CA, St. Anthony Dunes - UT and several coastal Dunes in OR.  If anyone knows of anything similar, please let me know :)  We are willing to drive into another state if needed to find the large dunes because we love it! ;)  Thanks for your help!

Welcome to Florida the worlds largest sand bar but there are no dunes here like you have out West.   There are places to ride so you will not have an problems with riding.  Places to ride Croom, Ocala, Motoplex, Tate's Hell Forest and there are several others which are legal.    Good luck with your move.

Hey man, i just moved to Tampa about 6 months ago from Las Vegas. I am a dune lover as well, Dumont, Glamis, Pismo, Ocatia Wells, I love them all. Unfortunately, you will be very disappointed as i have. From what i have experienced so far, there is nothing to compare the massive sand dunes and forever rollers, and wide open desert that never ends. I have not been able to get my bike out of 4 gear yet. Best bet is to trade your paddle tires and flags in for a set of MX tires and a number plate. :'(

Thanks everyone for your info!  We are looking to move outside of the Lake Marry area.  Not sure where just yet... still looking ;)  We are planning a few visits over the summer.  We will be checking out some of the riding spots when we visit.  I have to say... I will miss our Sand Dunes!  But it sounds like we will be trading in our paddle tires for some mud ones! ;) (let me know which ones we should buy... whole different style)

If your gonna be riding a 4x4 quad, I'd say get Outlaws or Mudlites!

I'm also planning on moving from california to florida, in the miami area.
I'm a novice rider (on a jetski) and I'm a novice surfer.
I also plan to get into more boardsport, such as sandboarding.
A quick google search for dunes in florida lead me to this thread, and it's given me an answer.
I was also just wondering if anybody here knows of any good surf spots?
I know there's a lot of water around florida, but it's the waves I'm looking for.

No waves in Miami unless we are having a hurricane. You will be driving up to Sebastian Inlet if you want to surf.
