We will be there also. ( two quads and one peewee quad & bike).

OK quads, lets have a good showing on the 20th, dust them off and lets race :drive.gif

Does anyone know how the track is coming along? I know that area has been getting alot of rain lately. Any status on the track drag? :Approve.gif

Track looking good this week with the new drag Shawn built.  All systems go for the race.  Track crew working hard making sure the skeptics have a different view.

Ok here it is, Im not going to risk of getting hurt, that the opening round of the All Harley Drag Racing season starts next week end of the 27th and 28th at Orlando Speed World.

Call me wimp if you like, but there is alot at stake here for me.

Just want to Thank Everyone that attended Thunder Bowl Speedway yesterday. We had an SDTA Record 58 Race Entries with 13 quads. Some very intense racing in multiple classes and AMA GNC Pro Mr. Ken Coolbeth Jr. showing our experts the fastest way around the track. More later when I receive the results and have time to re group

Again.....Thanks To All

Hey jayman
track started out good......got a little rough early on in the heats and got a little better for the finals. Track drag worked great. Now we just need to work it more and earlier before race day. Should improve with every race now that we have something to drag it with that works.

Sorry you missed the race........check in with Cabana.......him and Derek raced each other very hard........ been a long time since I seen two quads race so close and intensely. Jonathan never waivered from his line, Derek was crawling up his rear tires and around lap 8, Derek spun out a little coming out of turn 2

The was alot of intense close action in quite a few classes......pee wee mc was the hit too. 10 riders and great action. I will send out a blast in a day or two.......will be a busy week getting ready for bike week.

(sorry for the misprint)

there was some realy good racing all night.
that was Jonathan and Derrick battling it out all night in open.
there were some good lap times and speeds considering how loose the track was,Coolbeth was pulling a very consistant 64 mph with a 18.2-18.5 lap,Jon and Derrick would hit 64 once and a while but were mostly around 62 but with a 17.2-17.5 laps
it was a great night,I am looking forward to the next race!

I have an idea...........

Battle,what battle,it was 4 stroke's all the way,you know how we do it !!
seriously,it was some good close racing, like how it used to get!
I hope it keeps building up,we need more open class riders.

yeah. 4 stroke all the way as long as my 500 aint on the track. 8) J/K  jon took me off the line and while i was faster around the track(2 stroke) i just couldnt get around him. jon was doin some hella blocking. i had to shut out one time to keep him from pinning me against the wall. not enough traction and not enough power with that little 340. hopefully i will have my 500 running by the next race. if not then im putting nitrous on the 340. ;D top speeds were limited by traction for the higher power bikes.
there was some awsome racing! congrats goes out to johnathan harvin for his first int. class win and only the second time he has ever raced. he rode great and made a great pass near the end for the win. :Fp

as the the 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke..... jon and his dad have got that 4 stroke very close to the little 340. but all thats out the window when my 500 runs again. but i dont have to tell jon that. he already knows. b:r          hope to see everyone at the next event and maybe some new people too.

thanks again to all the SDTA crew for putting on a GREAT show. :ThumbsUp.gif

Good Morning derek, cj & jayman
We do appreciate the support and the great show/race that was put on. Since the three of you are fast on the track and even faster when on the keyboard  ;)....(aren t we all). Wanted to know if anyone would like to help (I could use it) provide some commentary for the quad classes to include in my post race e mail blast. I obviously screwed it up thinking derek was johnny.  :)

I have help coming from the Handschins for the pee wee mc class. I heard it was a great race too. I don t always get to see each class if I have to work on my bike and as this last race was recouperating from my first attempt at riding two classes and had to work on my bike

If you are up for the task.........send me your comments to jonesyancey@tampabay.rr.com

Thanks Again

Johnny Vance was the peson that I think ended up 2nd. (I have to re check the results) Obviously after derek spun out. I am starting to get a little familiar with people in other classes...ie: pee wee, quads, etc. You quad racers all look alike to me :)....just kidding. I will make an effort to get around more and introduce myself. I now know Scott since I was able to talk to him at sign up and available for autographs. I have been a fan of Jonathan for quite a while. And where has that Mr. Ware guy been? :)

send me your e mail and I can provide some examples of writings or not. Doesn t have to be any spectactular. Who came from behind after a bad start.....who battled it out neck & neck like derek & Jonathan. Who maybe put out an unexpected great performance. Its all about just trying to get people reconized. we obviously do not do this for the money or lack there off, so it is nice to have peoples name mentioned every now and then.

Thanks for the offer and all help. It is much appreciated

That is the exact same finishing order I have in the computer, Ward is old and starting to get Senile and he can't remember where he finished in his own race let alone the Expert Quad class.   ;)

Having the race on video to watch woudl be really cool.

Shawn,
I tried out our new bike cam at TB, got some really good video/sound of 2nd Practice, both heats and Main. Wish i would have used it on the first practice with the inaugural run of the CR500.

Ward, The Bike Cam has GREAT clarity and good sound. Small, 4" long and the size of 2 of your cigars. Self contained, no wires, mounts for the helmet or bars/frame, 4 hours of record time and only $132.00. I think its great. Besides, I had to get it since you can now run in the AARP Class, sorry, Super Senior. I just want a video of that yellow monster blowing by me, leaving me in the dust.

David:
Does the camera actually mount to the bike? I have seen & have the helmet camera system but it is a pain because you have to carry a camcorder on your back and the camera mounts to the side of my helmet. Does your system vibrate much and shake the camera?

Shawn, I was really impressed. Has mounts for 1" or 7/8" bars, clips on and off the mount, like a snap buckle on a life vest.  I had it mounted just left of the triple tree. Camera only weighs 3.5 oz. Yes there was vibration, but not so much the clarity was bad. It did bounce a little out of turn 4, it picks up the revs of the motor. Maybe feel I was not on the gas soon enough in the turn. Could hear the tire squeal in turn 3, Good color.

Jon held his line the entire race.......this is the reason for the win....GREAT JOB and kuddos to the crew chief as the quad looked like it was on rails.

Derek used ALL of the track.....did you see where he ran up the wall by the flagger before spinning in turn 2?  Holy cow that would freak me out  :bow.gif  (maybe it freaked him out too and that is why he spun right after...)

You want to ride the BEAST????? TB was not the place to try it out. I have to break down and buy rear shocks. I shoe horned a CR500 short rod motor in the Champion frame, bought R6 front forks, Weiss wide adjustable trees, Jemco down pipe, completely rebuilt the motor, spent many days on the port work, trying to mellow out the power band. Remote starter, had to install an old style compression release so it would turn over, no kick start, took it out, save weight, right at 200 lbs. Besides, I don't want to kick start that thing. UF helped our local radiator shop build a system that would be compact enough and flow/cool 3 times better than stock. You know in a 2 stroke, Heat robs horse power. Still trying to dial in the jetting. Changed the rotor heavier, upgraded the stator/CDI to digital from old analog and trying to change the timing curve. I was on the street behind our shop testing last week and 3rd gear about a 100mph and rolled the throttle on and the front end stood straight up. So, still want to ride the BEAST? We can talk about a ride, or two.

Jon and Derrick, that was some great racing :ThumbsUp.gif

I would like to give props to (SDTA) Shawn, Ward and Ray for a great night of racing.  :Clap.gif  Thank you and keep up the good work.

And also I have to give it up to Linda and the TB staff, Thank you for giving us racers a 100%   Linda, I like the racing play by play commentary, it just added to all the great racing that went on that night.

I know that alot of you racers are preparing for Daytona this week, but hopefully I will see yall at the Sumter race on March 5th. Good Luck in Daytona

I agree, without a doubt that was Jon's race from the start. He just flat out drove the wheels of that Yamaha. I can foresee some great open class racing  this season, especially when Dave Ware gets his motor together and Derrick gets that 500 4-stroker in his quad that he has been talking about.

using all the track is called racing you a$$ off. i spun because i was too hot coming in and i hit a bad bump. the track was unusualy rough. jon DID run a good race. as everyone can see.

im going to start putting daves back together this week. should be running by next. 500 4 stroker? that would be jons bike. im 2 stroke all the way.

Have you worked with Falicon before?
I have used them, they are a little higher price than crankworks, but they get it done asap and they are close by !
hopefully Dave will start racing again soon,
our yfz is stock, BONE STOCK,except for external bolt on's ,and some clutch work,I can't see why nobody ever believes us.

yes i have used falicon. problem is crankworks have my crank journals. those things are expensive. i dont think falicon has any experience building my type of crank where as crankworks and crankshop do. it just sucks all the way around. :'(

nobody believes you because noone see's a "stock 450" puttin' the smackdown on other modded 450's. kind of a 1 + 1 = 2 thing ya know........

you need to use that fuzzy math to figure it out !!
it just boils down to consistency, chassis set up and of course the rider.

"it just boils down to consistency, chassis set up and of course the rider"  :ThumbsUp.gif   I second that!   Like they say "smooth is fast" and Jon was just pure out smooth that night. A race like that was what we needed, it got alot of attention. And plus, lap times don't lie. I know track conditions were a factor too, but still it was impressive. Hopefully we can keep increasing the quad numbers and start adding classes to our line up.

Are any of you planning on racing at Sumter on Friday March 5th? I will be there with my son trying to get the cob webs out of me and my quad. I'm starting a new business this year, so my race schedule is limited. But the 5th sounds like fun, hope you all can make it.

well if thats the case then pat yourself on the back. you got the fastest stockish 450 around. :ThumbsUp.gif besides were ALL stock right? LOL ;D i know i am.
i wont be making it to sumpter on the 5th. i got my 500 parts coming and they will be here this week. so gotta get to work getting it running. and at the same time get daves going. work,work,work........ :N

Our camp will be looking forward to a much better race between Derek and you, this time on his bike, not mine.

I see the video you posted and also watched it live, the track was just plain loose that night and it's easy to block when you hug the bottom and float up to defend a pass.

With better traction, it should be much more exciting.  We feel like our "stock" motors can square off with anybody else's "stock" motors and still come out on top.  I'm looking forward to a hotly contested championship season. 8)
