Title: AMA/AHRMA/SDTA/SNRP/SEMDTRA FLORIDA & SURROUNDING FLAT TRACK RACING Post by: WJDTRI on January 22, 2010, 09:29:34 PM Good Day Fellow Racers and Fans
The time of year we all have been waiting for is fast approaching…..BIKE WEEK. An entire seasons worth of racing in one week. Amaturs & Pros from all over the country come to our back yard for some SPECTACULAR flat track racing. We have provided the links and additional information for the American Motorcycle Association (AMA), Amateur, Pro, Vintage & Senior racing schedules, the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) vintage racing schedule and Steve Nace Racing Promotions All Star National Flat Track Series. Also attached is our Southern Dirt Track Association (SDTA) Round 1 Flat Track Points Series Race at Cross Roads Motorplex in Jasper, Fl on January 30th. We have been told that there may be some pros coming down from the Carolinas for this event and just maybe from other areas. As you will notice, we have profiled on our SDTA flyer….Team Barber Racing. This is an entire family of fast flat trackers that attend almost every one of our SDTA flat track events. Mike, Steve, James, Zach Lauren & Logan Barber are all racers. Carla Barber who is the mom is involved with all of them. Carla drives the ship and if Zach or others don t act right…..they don t race……now that’s a GREAT mom!! I only named Zach as he did miss 1 race due to an incident which we won t mention J…. Zach Barber is the 2009 SDTA Youth Class State Champion, James Barber won Amateur Class at our previous Sumter County race. Mike, Lauren, Steve, & Logan have placed consistently 2nd, 3rd & 4th still racing for that elusive first win…..at least from September which is when the current SDTA staff took over and keeping statistics. If we had just a few more families like the Barbers, my great day of celebration of 100 racers would become a reality. :) On a separate note, Zach Barber was recently involved in a hit & run accident. Zach was a pedestrian crossing the street when a truck ran a red light and ran over Zach. The truck then backed up and fled the scene. I am happy to report that Zach will be ok suffering 9 stitches on his ankle, scraps & bruises and is extremely sore. I know ALL of us wish Zach a complete and speedy recovery. Family Racing History: (provided by Carla Barber) 7 generations ago, in the early 1900's: three young men named Orie L. Barber, Charles Robert & Orie Hank started racing in New England and Southern Canada. Hank rode one of the first Honda's in the US at Lacuna. The bike he rode won the hill climb at Mount Fuji. The 3 of them helped start Milford riding club. Then the children of the 3 men above Orie, Bobby & Terry raced the New England & S. Canada circuit. The 3 boys raced Hill Climbs, road race, tt & scramble. Terry became the champion of the New England & S. Canada circuit. The boys of these 3 gentlemen began racing at young ages, Mike Barber and Jimmy Barber. Mike did flat track, while Jimmy did TT, motocross, & flat tracking. When Mike son James was big enough he started riding and took up flat tracking. Then Mike and James nephew (Steve & Larry Jr.) started flat tracking and then their children starting riding( Larry's kids are Zachary, Lauren and Logan) Steve's daughter Chloe has been practicing and will be start flat tracking in spring 2010. Triple T Ministries - On behalf of Marti & Jay Thompson, I have attached their Triple T Ministries January News letter. Marti & Jay donate a lot of their time to the SDTA and provide our race invocation for the safety of our racers and fans. Jay has also recently started racing flat track and is having a blast. I am sure they would want me to pass along……..Please include in your prayers, our fighting troops abroad and all those suffering in our country and other countries especially in Haiti……….God Bless to All. OPEN PRACTICE: There is a whole weekend of open practice being organized this weekend at Thunder Bowl Speedway in Ocala. Flat track on Saturday and TT on Sunday. Now, it really doesn t matter which day you attend. You can still go out and ride what ever track you want for that session. Gates open at noon, $15 to practice, free to get in for both days.
