9 time GNCC world champion Bill Ballance, Taylor Kiser and a few others visited the plex today.

Bill said he and Taylor were interested in teaming up and coming down to the endurance race later this month.

This Pro and Pro Am guys are just too fast, seen the ones race yesterday on the FTR event, is just a dream to get even close to them, including the girls

Shawn, nuthin wrong with dreams but man them guys are scarry fast. Most of all very experienced on top of the line equipment. I know you are fast and experienced but if you try and compete with them you'll probably end up going home home  :'(  like a little girl either from shame or injury! Remember, riding to them is like you wiring an outlet. Entirely different level man.

Thanks for the support. I know that I stayed with kiser for 3/4 of a lap, he was no more than 50 yards ahead of me and then i got tired. tHEY HAVE CRAZY ENDURANCE which is what gives them speed. The top of the line equipment and bottomless wallets is what helps them keep that level of endurance. Think how fast you could be if it was only a 5 mile race, well they train so much that to them it is only a 5 mile race.
I intend on trying to get to their level. If money wont permit this then I will just settle for beating them when they come to florida

Those boys were very fast.

With a bit of time and experience Shawn might be close.

I have no idea of their practice pace...versus race speed, but they flew around the 7 miles, my buddy Jeff Walt from Walsh (he was the quad rider with the fastest time at the last endurance race) went flying in behind them about a minute and a half behind and came out only 40 seconds behind them. Like I said, they could have been cruising...I know Walt was pinned..lol.   

I don't think Shawn is dreaming, he is aspiring.  ;D

These guys are right though! The pros are at a whole different level.
I have ridden with Kiser on motocross tracks alot. Even though I was just as fast, after the first 2 laps, you
could tell why he is a pro. He was just as fast on his 10th lap as he was his first.
We would battle back and forth for a couple of laps but by the time we got into about 5 laps, he was
30 bike lengths ahead of me or better.
They started just like you though brother!!!  ;)

A few of you from above have made my point very clear and I thank you for that. I know what level they are on, im not stupid, lol. I know im getting a late start and i know that it is a pipe dream but if you dont try youll kick yourself later wondering.....what if? Im aiming for the XC1 class but if i come up short for whatever reason then i can live with that. But I can tell you this, Im not going down without a fight. Im not scared of their speed nor do i think its unattainable. Now come on mom and win that lottery

john natalie has run some gncc's an has lead the pro class at times, but lap 3-4 is where the xc guys make you pay with their training, i think shawn has the ability to run with them on the first couple laps and with some physical training and with a reliable machine or two he could compete for some wins

We've been saying for years if we ever wondered if we could keep up with those guys (Pros). I remember back in the day when there were very skilled FTR riders that would show up on our Speed rides and couldn't keep up. Dreth, you've been in training for the last few years. Although some of the trails are alot tighter the only thing you need is the race experience on that level. Every time we rode it was a race lol. Good luck buddy  ;) .

Hopefully if we try hard, we can get the 2011 GNCC, give a few of our guys home field advantage.  ;)

I know this all to well! If I had the cash or if the FTR would have had a better 1st time racer plan I  would have been racing XC a few years ago. And if i had the cash now to be able to abort my electrician job and train everyday like the pros do I could keep up with them in 1 year. Not beat all of them mind you but i have full confidence that i could run mid pack.

If you watch the whole Chris Borich video you would have heard him say that they are building 2 new bikes for the last 4 races...................use a quad for 2 races and build a new one..........that must be nice.

eNDURANCE = Speed

We did some good riding but we have never rode our full pace for 2 solid hours. And with my shoulder injury and the bad economy we really have not rode all that much. To be on that pro level you must ride at least 4 times per week and race at least 1 time per month. This is where the $$$$$$ comes in play. Rob, if you had the cash and desire with your talent you could easy make it to the top. But it is a lot of seat time and most of which is alone so it gets boring. Thanks and i wont forget yall when im at the top ;)

they ride every day except for 2 weeks out of the year when they go on vocation.

Im hoping that i will impress someone enough to help out so i wont have inferior equipment ;). I just want to get fast enough to place in the top 30 overall in the GNCC bythe end of the 2011 season. That will put me around mid pack of the pro am class and that i can live with knowing dont have the big money to fall back on. Worst case is i will have raced with the best, traveled the eastern time zone and should be the fastest in florida 8)

  Ride with Chuck Piper that will gauge if you have a chance. 2 or 3 years ago (I can't remember when) he finished 20th overall in the Florida GNCC afternoon race. He beat half the pros. He is faaaaaaaaaaaasssssssttttttttt!!

Shawn, I got faith in ya man. You can do it! Only thing that worries me is those linebacker pads getting you caught between some tight tree branches and throwing you back off the quad....... ;)

He is faster than me but not by much. I need a little more endurance to run with him. He has been racing for years and I have 3 races to my name. All i can do is try.

You are lucky that you hooked up with me going to the GNCC's this season then. I am a OK racer but I am a great Mechanic!! and I have all the tools we will need for any repairs needed at the track.

Yes I have thats why I said I am a really good Mechanic. After the trouble I had with my bike. That happens to like to blow up at the Motoplex BTW. I can rebuild the engine and trans With my eyes closed.

shawn there are continues for first place (tires gas ect.) so sign up in a class you might win this year that way you get to build endu & rider wisdom you being  :New to gncc try 30 + / 36c /vet b  these guys are good and will give you a work out good luck ride with god you will need help. 

Thanks Oldest, I am gonna try vet 30+ "A" class. I might not win this class but i feel i will do pretty good. But like you said, being able to afford new tires and sprockets every few races might prove challenging on my budget this season. I thank you for your giving of knowledge ;)

i think there are several reasons for this, the gncc is one very large org that gets 1000-1500 racers per race and charges $15 per person  and plenty of specators to pay that gate fee plus $60 per racer extra  (one time transponder fee)

and when you have 2500 +plus spectators paying the gate fee that is like found money

the clubs that put on FTR events charge 10 bucks per vehicle to come in the gate and let me tell you, with a family of 5, it would cost me $ 75 just to get in the gate at a gncc and that makes a big difference, plus the clubs need to make some money for there tine and effort, with that being said the $50 entry and 50 membership is a little steep for me and the boys, you are looking at $125 in membership fees (one peewee) and for what ? to get a monthly magazine? i am not saying that their membership should be free but $50 ?? if i was doing the racing along thats expensive enough but X3 is too expensive, i know there are people that are going to say, " if you cant afford it you shouldnt bought the bikes"
well when i bought the bike and got into this all these fees, and gas prices were alot cheaper and the fact that those prices went up, my pay hasnt increased accordingly, thats why i dont race as much, its so the boys can ride and race,

Everybody racing FTR can now relax because they still have a chance at winning.  Our newest GNCC pro wont be at any of the FTR races because of $30  ;D.

well back on a real note in this topic. Shawn I was against Racing in the FTR also, when we had the SSQSA series to race, but that was before I raced in one of there races and Now I can say nothing bad about them except I think the quad races should be 2hrs. other than that My first Race with FTR was great!!!

  I just got my rag back together tonight. I havent ridden in a few months or raced since last year but tomorrows FTR race is a close one for me so I'm headed out in the morning.  I still have some pains from my Rhino rollover 2 months ago so we'll see how that works out,  it will be so cold that I'll be numb anyway.

Hey, getting back to the race, I've been a part of the endurance races at Motoplex, one way or another. Some more serious advice to give you all racing is to have a few spare air filters and spare tires. We switched air filters every 2 laps and they were packed up pretty well with sand. We had a flat issue about midway through the last race and spares got us through the 8 hours. Spare bolts, cables, etc., and yes, duct tape (color does matter) always come in handy.
And one more thing...When you get your helmet scanned at the scoring chicane, don't run the scorer over. There are usually two scanner guns at the chicane. If the yellow one with the red light is being used, you are OK. If you run over the scoring person, the "evil" black scanner may come out from his hip. A bright flash may be the last thing you see and your race may be over.

I hope to see a bunch of you there. These team endurance races are AWESOME.
