Title: DS650 rear axle question
Post by: patches206 on December 06, 2009, 11:01:25 PM
Looking to see if this in normal or a problem.  I was doing some general maint on a 2002 Bambardier DS650.  The rear axle has up and down play.  The axle spins freely and no binding or unusual noises.  This movement is in the rear swing arm axle housing.  I checked the web but the only post I could locate was about the 2004-2005 DS650 recall becasue of a lack of grease in the rear axle hub bearings which could cause it to fail     Anyone have any ideas or knowledge with his issue.

 Thanks  TJ

replace your carrier bearings. common problem on any older atv. do it before they get too shot out, I've seen them so bad that the whole carrier needed to be replaced. just a little play is just a average worn bearing, you should be looking at an easy fix

Just like mine they come with 2 cone style bearings no way to add grease later.Order a set of aftermarket SEALED bearings for a Yamaha warrior.
they come 2 sealed bearings and 2 seals  works like a charm

before my brother sold his 400 he drilled and tapped the carrier for a grease fitting in the middle, it took almost a tube of grease, but he filled that bad boy up lol.

The bearings are like old GM front rotor bearings on this beast.  Just have to get us to the fact they need extra attention.    Thanks for the info.
