Title: Slowly Loosing A Favorite Rideing Spot.
Post by: Magnum330 on June 19, 2005, 04:48:22 PM
What has been a great riding spot after the lake went dry is now being pumped back with water. It Will take a while but the water is flowing in fast.

This is a pic of where the trail is now flowing with water across it at about 3ft deep

Are you riding in the dry lake beds at Keystone Hights? If so where do you park and where do you ride? I used to water ski in the lakes out there but they all dried up.

   Jim,

Hampton is a Small Town about 20 Miles North East of Gainesville. This time we Rode our Quads from Hampton to Keystone via the Old Railroad Track.  ;D
Not sure how many Miles it is one Way.

Hampton is about 20 miles N E of Gainesville. the ride on the old RR Tracks as appx 8 to 11 miles to the lake. We do have to ride on a county dirt rd about 1 Ml but if you ride responseably it's cool haven't got in trouble yet!!!!

Or if you look on a map for keystone heights hwy 100 and SR 21 take 21 north just a little way go past Hardees you will cross the bridge on the east side of the bridge on the north side of the crossing their is a place to drive down and park for now.

Or you can park off of 100 going west cross the road from McDonalds north side of 100 and park. Un load go back to where you see the sign for the boat ramp you can also enter their.

Their is also another place to enter but you might get lost.
We might try to go again in the next couple of weeks on a saturday or sometime the week of the 4th closer to the end of the week Vacation time.

The RR Tracks needs some clearing out a few trees down across the trail from last years storms.

We did see 3 deer out on the trail and yes it is a nice ride.

looking at a map, it looks like about a 45 minute ride or maybe a bit longer to get to Keystone Heights.

I might try to make it up there on Saturday unless I have company.

no mike, chucks pic was in jasper. these are from keystone hieghts. this area is full of lakes or was. there are some mines in the area that pump millions of gallons of water out thus dropping the water table. they are now pumping the water back into lake brooklin in hopes that the surrounding lakes will come back up with it as they are all connected via underground streams. its a beautiful area when the waters up. as bad as it sounds loosing this riding area will be a good thing. good pics.
